    This season really captured that season 1 magic again for me, hoping they keep that tone for the final season and maybe push the horror elements even further, I was in love with the atmosphere of the first half of this season especially when all the killings were taking place, it felt urgent and uncertain in the best way.

    Speaking as someone who's not tol far away from my young closeted self, seeing the scene with Will indirectly explaining how he feels for Mike using El really messed me up. I think it's a pretty universal experience for young gay people to have unrequited feelings for a straight friend.

    • @radagast7200
      @radagast7200 2 года назад +2

      It's a red herring. Will broke down out of guilt, because he is still working with the Mind Flayer and Vecna. That's why he breaks down when Jonathan tells him he'll always be on his side no matter what. It's all guilt.
      Look at the painting he gave Mike. It's all drawn very cleanly, but if you look at the wizard that is suppose to be Will, he has a portal or something in his right hand. Mike's leg is drawn in front of it up to his knee. It looks very intentional. Mike also looks off balance and almost seems to be looking down. I think he was trying to confess with that painting.
      He either has some bizarre Stockholm syndrome, or is something like drug addicted to the feeling, or maybe is under duress and is obeying to protect someone (which might explain why he hid the clue in his painting) He was spying on the group and particularly 11 in California.
      That's my theory at least. and if you assume it was Vecna and not the demogorgan that abducted him then maybe that was the plan all along. He is the third head of the Vecna / Mind Flayer Hydra.

    • @kingvega666
      @kingvega666 2 года назад +1

      I dont think its just a gay thing. I definately think anyone who was ever in love with someone who doesnt love them back can relate. But i also cant imagine how hard it was back then for a gay man to find someone. Scene was very good, made me tear up.

    • @dunnejos8423
      @dunnejos8423 2 года назад

      @@kingvega666 that's not quite the same thing, it's not liking someone back that's a gay experience. It's that they will NEVER like you back, it's simply impossible. You can't make someone change their sexuality, and it's an experience a lot of gay people grow up going through where they fall in love with their straight best friend, and must work through their feelings to make it back to being platonic.
      What Will did was actually really healthy, he was able to express himself without making himself completely vulnerable. He was letting go of his unrequited feelings for Mike.
      When you're straight, and the other person isn't interested, you aren't in danger of becoming socially outcasted like you are if you're gay.

I cried hard when he died and the Dustin talking to his uncle about how he was a hero and completely innocent. Still sad they killed off such a great character. Also I just enjoyed seeing Hopper fighting the Demogorgon with the other prisoners which was intense, but then when he found that sword (which was some weird placement for a sword.. since I don't remember if it dropped there) for the second fight against it and just slashed at it. The run times made me hate other shows for their strict 35-42 minutes 6-8 episodes that always feel rushed now and not fleshed out. None of these episodes felt like they dragged and had me at full attention the whole time.

    I feel Robin was dumbed down this season. When first introduced she was smart, witty and had some confidence to her, now it's like oh yeah she's here and just being all gushy about a crush... Eddie was a cool addition to the roster. Too bad he was killed off but he adds to Dustin's character development given he's an only child and keeps finding these big brother types and the newest one dies and was the one who he had more in common with [sorry Steve]. Lucas had his ups and downs but he came down pretty hard by the end of the season.

    I would say that my two favorite characters in the season would be Max and Will. I think Max was really well established, and the performance was just impeccable. The Kate Bush scene in particular really hammered it in, but overall I think they fleshed out her character very well. I really felt for her in this season. When it comes to Will, I felt like he was actually rather underdeveloped and thus a bit of a mystery. They started to dig into him a little bit further without giving everything away right away. I kind of like that aspect, leaving him a little bit of a mystery and a little bit elusive after seasons of treating him mostly like a prop (so it felt). It was a little bit of a brain tees, lol. The scene of him in the car was definitely the turnaround for me after my suspicions were raised up to that point. Seeing him get emotional in that way over that situation was quite powerful to me. He became very identifiable to me after that point. When his brother had his talk, that just struck me right in the heart.

    All I can say is about this season, its they truly outdid themselves. Sometimes in the best and not so best ways but it was pretty damn good. Imo the episodes felt much longer than they needed to be especially with how little actually happens between episodes and some of the super sub plots like Jason and his lackeys felt more pushed than necessary and the cast being a bit larger kinda felt like outside of Eleven the 3 main cast members in California practically did nothing this season, I'd say Argyle achieved more than Mike, Will, and Johnathan combined.

    I loved every season. But season 4 made me tear up more then the ending of season 3. And that end made me cry HARD. Every character was amazing. Vecna is probably my top 5 villains of literally EVERYTHING. I just want them to have a IRL D&D style fight on season 5. D&D played a pretty big part in the series. I feel like its only fair to have that kind of last fight. Im sure they will figure it out. Also I think that painting Will gave Mike is kinda a hint to that.

    One of my favourites things about Vecna is that I can see the seem of the latex mask. That his look is an elevated version of haunt make-up, that you know a person made it, and can see a living breathing person make the mask, is such a breath of fresh air.

    Season 4 as a whole felt like I was watching parts of the Evil Within and parts of Resident Evil mixed in with the premise of Nightmare on Elm Street. It was really well done compared to Season 3 and definitely picked up what the previous two seasons established, which was the horror. Also Eddie was the true MVP in that final fight.

    I think that Wills homesexuality is a red herring. He is actually feeling guilt because he is still working for the Mind Flayer and Vecna.
    He tried to confess in his painting that he lied about. Zoom in on it. Mike's leg is inside of the portal in Wills right hand. Intentionally. And Mike's character looks off balance and is looking down.

    First-time, long-time. Max was my favorite, because she had the best-written part this season. But all the cast was great, especially the interaction between them. Steve/Robin, Dustin/Eddie, Lucas/Max, Nancy/Robin, Joyce/Hopper, Mike/Will, they all worked for me. Really the best thing I've watched since Endgame, and I've liked a lot of stuff since then.

    One of the biggest criticisms I've seen from this show as a while is that none of the main cast is ever under the threat of death. This season made me think anyone could die then continued to one up itself by making me care for a character, Max, that I never thought had a proper place in the previous seasons. Then she gets a fate worse than death. If they keep it up in the last season, especially since they're all together now, the show will have staying power.

    Fav character has to be Murray. If any of the cast member that should deserve a spin off and that could pull a very interesting story I think it is him. His interaction with all the character are unique but funny at the same time.

    Fully agree. Season 1 was great, Season 2 was forgettable, Season 3 was alright, but Season 4 was incredible. The whole Vecna reveal episode was some of the coolest shit in the whole series.
    Also, yes! Dark is definitely top 3 best show material for me (maybe even my most favorite?). It kind of ruined tv for a while after finishing it because it was so fucking good that nothing else seemed to compare.

    S4 took things to the next level. One of the very best seasons of a show I've ever watched.
    I dont understand people seeing Seasons 2 and 3 as being weak. Maybe its because I was the same age as the characters in the timeline and that aspect of being an 80s kid adds an extra layer of depth in my viewing experience. Theres ALOT that you won't get if you didn't grow up in the 80s. This show is as true as it gets to the decade.

    I agree with most of what you said but I think the final double episode felt a little too drawn out. They could've cut some scenes and still have made it contain everything they needed to.
    My favourite character this season was definitely Dr. Brenner. I loved hearing him speak, I loved his eccentric yet stylish scientist look (there's just something late 80s about eccentric scientists with white hair), I loved his optimistic realism, and I really didn't think he was all that bad of a person, except for some of the situations where he went a little too far. His goal was to save the world. He was just afraid of losing control. The control he found so important because of how high the stakes were, which made his actions understandable at least.
    My honourable mention has to be Murray, though. Because obviously. He's just SUCH a character. Or maybe Argyle. Gotta love a classic stoner character.

    I had nearly the exact same perspective as you did. I've always "liked" Stranger Things, but I never understood why everyone raved on it the way they did. But I adored Season 4, and can't wait for Season 5. The acting has definitely gotten better, but I think the writing has gotten notably better too. Previous seasons felt too slowly paced for my tastes, whereas now they can create a character like Eddie who immediately became one of my favorite characters of the whole series with just one season of development. It's great, and I'm excited to see how everything wraps up.
    The only point I'd like to respectfully disagree on is how they killed off Jason. I think he was most people's least-favorite character of S4, and the fact that they killed him off so horrifically and yet so anti-climactically was both hilarious and satisfying. I'm glad they didn't devote too much attention to his death, but I'm also curious to see what ripple effects in the narrative come from his time on-screen.

    I grew up in the time this show is set...I might be a little older...and the DnD stuff was so resonate. My parents were hardcore religious, and completely bought into the Satanists scare in the 80s. All these lies about human sacrifice, secret messages in music, and, of course, DnD is witchcraft. So seeing the reactions of the town completely took me back to my endocrinization of Satanic Panic.
    BTW...Satanists are actually cool people who don't really worship Satan. I'm not one myself, but I've known a few...never have they tried to get me to sacrifice a virgin while casting magic missile.
    Also, "This risotto is shmackin', man." I love Argyle so much. Between the stoner vibe (which hey...stoner here) to his references like when he thought Will's shirt was Ocean Pacific. That is all I wore in the 80s. Vans, Airwalks, OP, Sex Wax...to grow up in the 80s on the Pacific Coast.

    I really like the way they separated the characters this season. Mike and (mostly) Eleven being away gave space for the other characters shine without the "heavily relying on super powered character" for the solution to the problem they have.
    On the characters side, I agree this was Max's season. I think she was my favorite character here, but I really like Justin and Eddie as well. Actually I kinda like all but Mike here, but those 3 are my favorites this time
