He drew more than all of those guys. Because he was a great Heel to a mega Babyface. When any of those guys where on top the ratings went down. Bret and HBK were terrible draws. Great wrestlers yes but awful box office attractions
@@Gavin48 they were on top during a weird time in WWF though. Had they been around during the heyday of the attitude era, those numbers would have been different. Bret snd HBK were great, but the undercard was full of occupational gimmicks that really brought the show as a whole down during that time. Bret was in his prime right before the screw job. If I went through even half the shit that Bret went through since '97, from the Screwjob to deaths in the family and then a stroke and even cancer, I'd be "bitter" and "salty" too.
It's all f'd up bro.. the people in this business especially who run it is evil, they have no remorse, no actual care. They only act like they care so they can look good for the media after someone dies. But after a few months there they go talking ill about the dead. They probably talk major sh*t about ultimate warrior, macho man, etc backstage. And probably make fun of Owen Hart falling and dying, that's how these a-holes are.. they literally don't give a crap about Bret Hart and what he's gone through. It's all just a big joke to them.
Maybe not. Some people experience those things and end up grateful for their time they have left on Earth. Bret's just a crybaby just like he was back when he was the champ.
He needs to do “Tales from the tour bus” like full animated episodes of old wrestling stories. I’ve had that idea since before that show even. It would be fun at as hell all these old wrestling stories in animated form 😂
Hitman Salt brand would make millions, the commercial could just be Bret doing a shoot promo and the moniker could be the saltiest there is the saltiest there was and the saltiest there ever will be
HHH is the man who worked with the man. The problem is WWE changes history to make HHH become the man. According to modern WWE, that jeep drive to Atlanta and his dick jokes saved the WWE from WCW.
@@davyjones2032 That's what I always thought. Wwe LOVES to rewrite history, but when it comes to who their top guys were they're always honest. Sammartino, hogan, bret, Austin, rock, cena and now roman(not comparing talent, just being chronological).
He was the heel that the babyfaces had money feuds with, from Austin to Rock to Foley. If you're main eventing most pay-per-views in the WWF's best ever year of business, you have something people pay to see.
I am more of a bret hart fan now than I ever have been...Thank you Bret for just keeping it 100..It always makes me laugh when Bret speaks the truth, people instantly say hes salty or bitter.. I think its more like Brets is just telling it like it is and people dont want to hear it.
Funny how when "brett tells it like it was" he is also the squeaky clean role model and nobody but a select few gets any credit from him besides his family, when some of the people he puts down has more years ,matches and made the company more money than him, from a company pov the money determines who is greatest of all time. All ive ever heard him do since the 90's is cry about something.
Never heard of it is Bret Hart Mark before your it pal. Too much of a narcissist and two bitter that everywhere wasn’t like his daddy’s parritory to keep it 100
I'm recovering from open heart surgery and this morning recieved a Cameo message from Bret via my brother, absolutely moved to tears and just further cemented my admiration for Bret, his legacy and the way he still treats his fans by showing they still matter is incredible, this isnt saltiness it is honesty and the much needed integrity that Bret has always delivered, we fans still want his opinions and still hold him as a hero. He is the Goat and achieved that through being honest, true and having the heart of a lion, the HHH's and Shaun Micheals of the world represented most of the things wrong with it, god bless you Bret you really made my day.
well like you heard brian last say how he loves bret hart for his honesty and that's becoming a common opinion because for too long we've been told things like oxycontin aren't harmful. that's just a generalized example of deceit we've endured. it'll be wearing, this outpouring of honesty, but necessary to combat the ongoing culture war. honesty can only last so long before it becomes grueling tho sir
@Aus-10 yes I did, I grew up with that image of that little girl walking through the rain and spilling the salt, to see the Hitman replaced there is other-level hilarity.
Bret always gave high praise to: Mr. Perfect Rick Rude Owen Hart Steve Austin The Undertaker Mankind Shawn Michaels (as a worker) Goldust Sean Waltman X-Pac Rowdy Piper And some more who I'm forgetting.
@@ltldoc2011The points he made against HHH are legit though even to this day, irrespective of Hart's personal perspective. HHH is indeed a bit overrated.
@@vipkoli95 it's making Bret look like he can't move on and it also is stirring up drama. I know fans love a perpetual cycle of drama and shit talking but a lot of the wrestlers are in their 50s and moved on. HHH isn't overrated because the most common thing you see is someone telling you he's overrated or he how he was with the man who drew or where he is because of his wife. Can't be overrated if most fans are bashing you lol. It's almost like saying Cena is overrated or Undertaker is underrated.
Triple H is an all time great heel. He worked with the guy that drew the money because the fans hated him and wanted to see him lose. During the attitude era I would put only Austin, Rock, and Taker ahead of him. Foley was a more beloved Babyface but that doesn’t mean he was better. Triple H didn’t care about being beloved, his focused was on being hated, although the fans really did show how much they missed him that one time when he came back from the quad injury in 2001.
Triple H is more notable for being a ruthless and devious bad guy who is capable of kicking butts when he wants to make a statement. And out of his 14 World title reigns, only four of them happened when he was a good guy (WrestleMania X8, No Mercy 07, Backlash 08 and No Way Out 09)
Yeah, its just a damn shame about the pushes he had and the booking. I think he was a good wrestler, but he was overexposed, and he held onto the belt to many times, for too long, with minimal pay-offs whenever he lost. If he'd had less reigns, but remained a pure heel, he'd have been better off. JBL, an asshole yes, but what a great villain! he was. So much character, presence, and he knew what he was, another great villain was Ted Dibiase, who criminally never won the title. HHH, was a Stone Cold clone, with longer hair, but his gimmick worked. Unlike Austin, however, HHH'S face turns mixed with his title reigns, muddied the waters and made for a boring, unlikable face. It's a shame, HHH had potential to be a truly great heel.
He was a good upper midcard guy and they did everything possible to get him over with the best theme music and making him beat everyone, but the ratings just died throughout his run. And for good reason.
@@KareemHarper his name is in the description, Travis Heckel. Imagine if someone animated his illustrations with Jim’s stories, like the Joe Rogan podcast cartoon clips.
Not saying HHH should be on the mount Rushmore of wrestling but watch his return in 2002 and hear that crowds response and tell me he was not over at some points in his career
The guy that works with the guy that draws the money is such a perfect way to sum up HHH’s career. Mankind, Austin, Taker, Rock , etc. were the guys you came to see, H was just kind of there.
I mean you act as if he didn't have a following during the late-90's/early 2000's. Its definitely true that his ties to the Mcmahon family boosted his standing, but to act as if he wasn't a significant part of why DX was huge and that he wasn't a headliner in the early 2000's is massive revisionism.
@@olliebol77 Triple H is up there, feuded with the best, and one of the most epic returns that was heavily advertised, that response wasn’t shock value it was anticipated excitement being uncorked
They drew money because they worked with him. Name any other heel fans wanted to see lose more than HHH of the last 30 years. Name another heel fans hated more than HHH in 30 years. You can't. HHH is a once in a generation talent. All those babyfaces needed him.
People now days don’t like it when you don’t sugar coat it. I’m like these guys just call em as I see em. That doesn’t make you grumpy it called speaking the truth. Brett and Jim just say what’s on their minds love it
HHH was a great heel. When I was a kid I HATED him for leaving DX & joining the Corporation & the whole McMahon/Helmsley faction. But then I missed him when he was gone the first injury
Oh please HHH was successful way before he was with Stephanie. Yes being married to her helps but to act like he was some bum who got every handed to him by his wife is ignorant. He was a top mid card talent in the attitude era. He had a great rival with the Rock and led DX. His time eventually came and he was a main event talent in the early 2000s before he married steph.
@@kamfisher1714 That makes him good friend (pity those that weren't in the Kliq though) but doesn't have anything to do with how good a wrestler he was

It’s not even just that,he’s looked down on guys who he’s perceived to not be real enough or take it serious enough, that’s why I take what he says with a grain of salt cuz I know he is salty as fuck..he’ll tell you what the truth is from the way he viewed and interpreted everything
I think that's a very valid reason, but Bret is also the type of people that doesn't forget or forgives easily (people that did him wrong or he didn't get along with). I always hear "Bret is a bitter old man"or "let it go ,it hapened 20 years ago"well, easier said than done , also, I heard that HHH was the real mastermind behind the screwjob and, while Vince and HBK apologised to Bret, HHH never did
Bret hasn’t buried anyone who doesn’t deserved to be buried. Bret buried Goldberg for being green, buried triple h rightfully so, buried Hogan rightfully so, buried Rollins for being reckless, which was true .
@Tiger cause his standard wouldnt be reachable in his eyes.. talking about a guy trained in his dads basement with his brothers since they were kids in all grappling moves and submission holds... i see why he tends to look down on others because in his eyes because he was perfection as a wrestler and athlete, but it still makes him salty..
He quit because of people over analysing his opinions and taking him too seriously. He was worried the wrestlers today were taking criticism to heart. I think Bret has a very dry sense of humour and doesn’t always mean to come across as ‘grumpy.’
Corny hit the nail on the head: HHH took it a lot more serious than wrestling today. His match with Rousey shows he knows how to put together a match still.
I'm pretty sure Triple H has taken credit for being on the call with HBK and Vince saying "Fuck him (Bret)" and pushing to have him screwed. I'm actually almost positive Triple H took the bullet.

"He isn't George Gualas for f' sake." I agree yet people talk about Triple H as if he is. They also talk about Roman Reigns as if he were Giant Gonzalez. I like Bret Hart but is he ever positive about any other wrestler other than Canadian wrestlers?
HHH was the guy that worked with main eventers, as Cornette mentions. His matches needed no dq stipulations because his matches were boring (despite being a good worker).
HHH doesn't get enough credit for what he has done for this company. I've said it before many times already, reason Stone Cold, Rock, and others were great was because they had great heels (like HHH or Vince) to go against. He may have not been biggest star, or biggest draw but this guy is without a doubt one of best/if not the best heel ever. Would Stone Cold be Stone Cold if he had to fight Corbin every week? Would Rock be Rock if he had to fight Drew McIntyre and Elias every week?
@@kamfisher1714 Not true. Austin was over due to his feud with Bret and McMahon and Rock got over largely due to Austin. HHH didnt help get many people over til past 04 , and often put a spanner in the works to people close to overshadowing him like Angle, RVD and Booker T.
Stephanie or no Stephanie, HHH really was an amazing worker from mid '99-2001 when he blew his quad out. And he deserved to be a world champion main eventer on the strength of his work at that time. When he came back from the quad thing, he was still very good but he never was that level of worker again. And since 85% of his main event run occurred after that point, to make people believe he was the same, everyone had to constantly say he was the best in the business, in those words, over and over and over again. He said it, Flair said it while managing him, the commentators said it, every single babyface opponent was required to say it, and it was very forced. That being said, given all their top stars left it's understandable why they built so much around him between 2002-2005 till Cena/Bautista/Orton were "ready".
These geekz who didn't live through the attitude era don't know how good Trips was in 2000. Pretty much the perfect foil for Foley and Rock and played a major part in WWE not really missing Austin & Taker.
When Bret Hart dies.. the wrestling business will continue to make fun of him, talk bad about him, etc. I noticed the wrestling business and it's controllers always speak ill of the dead. I'm always like "damn dude, let them rest in peace.." Bret Hart is still alive but he's lost his entire family and gets made fun of for being "sad". I swear I don't understand why many people are bothered when someone is simply sad. They gotta make fun of them, call them bitter, the dude lost his entire family and gets frequently disrespected. I thought being "salty" means you're getting angry for little to no reason, like video games.. comparing Bret Hart's family losses and pain to some 13 yr old call of duty player losing his mind over a video game is hella wrong.
People get pissed at bret because he has no filter and tends to say a lot of things that are often negative about a bunch of living and non living wrestlers. And its constant. For example when he said hogan was happy piper died because it took some heat off of him for the racist rant he went on. He later had to apologize for that. As for people making fun of him. I never heard anyone make fun of him but i have heard people comment on how bitter and butthurt he is and how much of a mark he is for himself and the biz.

I think HHH best year, was the year 2000. His Street Fight against Cactus Jack at the Rumble 2000 is one of the best street Fights i have seen in that company. He had great chemistry with Rock and Austin and his Last Man Standing match against Jericho at Fully Loaded is very overlooked these days. Yes, he was never "the guy" no matter how many times the WWE wants to say otherwise. But there is far more to Hunter then just being married into the Mcmahon family. He is a legit good worker. Hhh is a great worker and has had great matches throughout his career.
Bret is absolutely right on this! Triple H was a Good enough performer to get by. His popularity started with DX & came to ahead after marrying the Bosses daughter. After that, Triple H got ALL the high end, top main event matches all cause of Nepotism. Bret worked his ass off, lost a brother and was still treated like a second rate talent in McMahon's eyes. I watched the WWF before & during the Attitude Era & Bret has a very legit beef here!
Or, you could say that HHH worked on developing relationships in the business. It's basically networking, and it's smart. Relationships in businesses will get you further than just relying on talent, that's just reality and something that I had to learn in my own life. Get along with and work well with others.
@@Jukeboxster you mean get along and work well with the boss... though he was at least not like HBK, oh the things HBK did and he was lucky everyone was willing to deal with him.
Hhh had the best entrances, and some of the best songs ever in wwe. I was a huge hitman fan, but during hhh time he was the best heel on the roster. The heel is never the top draw, but without a great heel you can’t have a great baby face so Austin and rock should be thanking hhh, which they have
HHH was the 1st of the modern wrestlers to be forced down our throats by the corporate wwe structure. Thats what he will be remembered for. Then cena and reigns followed. Also being hbk s 3rd seidekick after diesel and sid
That kick Goldberg gave him really took a toll on him. I became a fan of Triple H after the "Curtain Call" incident. Instead of punishing Shawn, WWE punished Triple H with a ton of crap. Instead of letting all the crap consume him, he rose above - IMO, he was a good heel during The Attitude Era. I love how people who trash Triple H always point to his marriage with Stephanie but forget the post-Curtain Call part of his career.
Austin said it you need dance partners and hhh filled that spot for many of people amd him and ric gave us orton and flair. He used to be all about himself to succeed but now with nxt he realizes he needs many people to succeed.
@Morpheus A. Smith amen brother. I wish Brett would chill the hell out. I know he loves it but I enjoy someone who loves it with a giddiness. He loves wrestling rather you like him or not. Punk I feel was someone who loved himself, not wrestling.... Anyways I wish Brett loved wrestling more like his brother (RIP)
@Morpheus A. Smith Well except when he refused to drop the belt on his way out, knowing what WCW had gotten Medusa to do and still crying that he wouldn't lose in Canada or to Shawn.....Bret was great but he is nowhere near the greatness level he thinks he is. On top of he comes off in ALOT of interviews as bitter that he wasn't as big as he thinks he should have been.
Let’s be honest throughout 99 and 00 HHH was the best heel, besides Vince of course, in the company, especially after Rock turned face, Triple H was having great matches with everyone. With that being said, Cornett is correct when we talk about the top stars from that time it’s mostly Austin, Rock, Foley, Vince, Taker, and then Triple H. At least for me.
I can’t believe Cornette was in his 20s in the 80’s.. He came across as older and smarter/wiser than someone that young.. He’ll he was only 40 in 2001..
@Tiger I disagree. NXT has only gotten better. AEW has too many botches every week and their wrestlers are always telegraphing moves and making it look stupid. NXT has great athletes who make their moves look at least mostly believable. There's really no comparison.
@Tiger Chris Jericho, Matt hardy, and Christian are nothing to get excited about anymore lol. But we can agree AEW sucks :P I just think NXT is the best wrestling product available. It's fine if you don't like it.
@Tiger Jericho let himself go, his performance isn't good anymore. Christian is not, and never has been, as exciting as Edge. And Matt Hardy is just too cringe. He's stiff, like he has no flexibility, Jeff is the superstar between the two.
@Tiger We just value different things in what we think is good is all. I have never bought Christian as a good solo wrestler myself. You're trying to tell me that Matt is one of the best wrestling minds when his gimmick is being a being that's thousands of years old with a shitty accent? Come on... WWE needs a lot of help to make Smackdown and Raw better, but they don't need Matt Hardy's mind.
Did WWF/E fans forgot that Bret experienced the death of his brother in the ring and the injury Goldberg did to him that messed his brain up? Bret represented the industry really well and moved on to the competition for a better paycheck.. that was during Vince being dealing with the Kliq star leverage.. I was a kid in the 90s and was a fan of his but who knows how the WWF would of be if not for the Montreal screw job.
Bret isn't salty. It wasn't even dishonest. HHH was always the bridesmaid of wrestling - he made sure he was booked against whoever was hot; he was always used to bury the WCW guys as they came over; he married into royalty, didn't do drugs or alcohol, and stayed in shape. He was the right-place-right-time guy. The only time he really got "over" was at MSG when he returned 'roided up after his quad injury in 2002. The crowd popped pretty big, but that was it.
Although i dont disagree with what Bret said this is old news rehashed for clickbait. Bret put a status out on Facebook last week saying so: "Outside of two virtual autograph signings the only interviews I’ve done recently, to the best of my knowledge, are for my upcoming @aetv documentary. Disappointed but not surprised that old quotes are rehashed and made new for clickbait headlines" - Bret's Facebook Page
@KaneMagus I believe so. You would have find a more recent interview. There was one were he was talking about Triple H's and Brock wrestlemania match. Not sure on the year though.
Ever since I began watching wrestling, Trips has been my personal all time fave. Personally, I think he understands ring psychology. Watching his matches, he's very methodical with things like the ground and pound, focusing on a specific limb, etc. He had the look of a legitimate badass, and he sold well. I get the criticism with him being coddled a bit by Vince, but you can't deny he didn't put in the work either.
I agree with most of it. Sometimes I thought he came across as a bit clumsy and not as fluid as the other workers. Plus the whole sledgehammer thing was just the pure wet shits. With that said he had skills and a great look. Top of the card material no doubt, but pushed a bit too far up in the all time great rankings in my opinion
Bret Hart took less money to have the ability to say, “I’m not losing” If Brett had pushed for more money and had less creative control over his matches he would have lost way more often and not even be considered a top guy from his era. Vince was happy to pay him less money and let him win. Brett has no one to blame for being poorer then his contemporaries than himself.
its true. when i think of austin, rock, taker, hbk i can think of tons of classic matches. with HHH im struggling to remember his classic matches, i just remember him being in a lot of matches but whats his iconic go-to match. nothing comes to mind.
His hell in a cell match with Undertaker with Shawn Michael's as guest referee. Easily one of the best performances from the 3 of them that tied up multiple long term storylines.
The Unsanctioned match between Triple H and Shawn Michaels is a good story of Shawn Michaels coming back after being gone for four years and Triple H feels jealous and pissed that Shawn returns and being the ungrateful jerk that he is (after all, Shawn helped HHH make it to the big time) , he tries to cripple his former buddy and Shawn makes a triumphant in-ring return to kick Triple H all over the arena
Me personally, I really liked Triple H from 2000-2001 when he tore his quad. His heel work was extremely good and never gets the recognition it deserves.
I always felt Triple H earned his main event spot but did feel he used his position as a McMahon to definitely stay there. During his "Reign of Terror" I felt he was responsible for Wrestlings decline in popularity.
Exactly and then john cena who came after him surpassed him as a mega star unfortunately and had Eddie Guerrero not died he I could see him passing triple h too as a mega star
May I ask why you feel that way though? Like where does the big hhh hatred come from? I’d rather a hhh promo and match than, like a roman or EVEN undertaker

Hitman Salty lmaooo 🤣🤣🤣🤣
When he was doing the My Time and making his initial run, he was good to watch with those great guys.

Awesome Shoot Today Jim!!😎🐐🐐
Hhh had the best entrances, and some of the best songs ever in wwe. I was a huge hitman fan, but during hhh time he was the best heel on the roster. The heel is never the top draw, but without a great heel you can’t have a great baby face so Austin and rock should be thanking hhh, which they have
The heel was the top draw in NWA. And HHH was the first top heel draw in wwe. They're trying to make Roman the next one.
The artwork is phenomenal lol, and Cornette is awesome to listen to, especially when he shares his immense pro wrestling knowledge.
Triple H really didn't become "The Guy" until the Ruthless Aggression era. He never could've been it while Rock and Austin were there.
Even then, Benoit/Bryan are the foils to beat him at the end of the day.
HHH was the 1st of the modern wrestlers to be forced down our throats by the corporate wwe structure. Thats what he will be remembered for. Then cena and reigns followed. Also being hbk s 3rd seidekick after diesel and sid

I feel for Bret man, may you get peace Bret, there are millions who adore you.
HHH the only guy I bought merch from. He was cool. Gave great matches, logos - the Game - , and great speeches. The sledgehammer was incredible.

Austin said it you need dance partners and hhh filled that spot for many of people amd him and ric gave us orton and flair. He used to be all about himself to succeed but now with nxt he realizes he needs many people to succeed.
@Tiger 99 hh was over too
I LOVE HOW CORNY DIDN'T TARE DOWN BRETT. Lol. Just answered and was like... Well yeah.
@Morpheus A. Smith amen brother. I wish Brett would chill the hell out. I know he loves it but I enjoy someone who loves it with a giddiness. Edge and Christian, though not saying their a Brett, were fanboys who enjoy wrestling as kids, teens, adults. There is just a looooooove. Jericho is another.

The image on the video of Bret as the Morton’s Salt Girl is golden.
I consider him the greatest heel of his era. He was darth vader
Agreed
Let’s be honest throughout 99 and 00 HHH was the best heel, besides Vince of course, in the company, especially after Rock turned face, Triple H was having great matches with everyone. With that being said, Cornett is correct when we talk about the top stars from that time it’s mostly Austin, Rock, Foley, Vince, Taker, and then Triple H. At least for me.
Bret is so unintentionally funny
That ladder match with triple h vs the rock for the intercontinental was great
I can’t believe Cornette was in his 20s in the 80’s.. He came across as older and smarter/wiser than someone that young.. He’ll he was only 40 in 2001..
He’s now the guy that’s stayed on besides taker.
What he’s done with nXt is why I’d pay to see him today
@Tiger I guess you don't like quality wrestling then.
HHH is was and always will be my favorite wrestler of all time.
Same here. #ForeverMyGoat #HHHATERSGonnaHate
That picture is fucking gold.
I knew this was going to be discussed here. I think Bret still believes he was in on the Screwjob amongst other things. So that venom is still there.
The quote theyre referring to is apparently a few years old though.
He was. HHH admitted to putting the idea in Vince's head.
@@user-li3fr8jl3b No, it literally was said a week ago
@@MISTERPERFECT3806 according to Jim. Jim is the one who gave Vince the idea of the double cross. So Bret is mad at the wrong guy .
I was always unimpressed with how little damage he would do with a sledgehammer.
Although i dont disagree with what Bret said this is old news rehashed for clickbait. Bret put a status out on Facebook last week saying so:
"Outside of two virtual autograph signings the only interviews I’ve done recently, to the best of my knowledge, are for my upcoming @aetv documentary. Disappointed but not surprised that old quotes are rehashed and made new for clickbait headlines" - Bret's Facebook Page
Bret's so salty that they don't even have to salt the roads in Calgary during the Winter lol
This quote is over 6 years old.
@KaneMagus I believe so. You would have find a more recent interview. There was one were he was talking about Triple H's and Brock wrestlemania match. Not sure on the year though.
@@kronos911
Well they were pretty clever too then lol
