@@rsprockets7846 Meh, crate engines and LS swaps are so blah. There's no fun in swapping motors. Here's Hoovie's chance to make a real customized motor. He could do a few episodes for the channel from an engine shop. Show how you tear down, blueprint, balance, and rebuild a motor from bearings up.
All six senses to diagnose the car, and then he used telepathy to tell that Hoovie had a bad idea in his head, and then his ability to see the future for the new engine he's going to need.
His face in the beginning is the same face his wife made when he decided their first date would be test driving an broken down old hoopty and taking it to Weeezard for a service engine light.

Hoovie and the tow truck driver on a first name basis. I imagine the phone calls sound like this: Hoovie: "Hey, it's Tyl..." Tow truck dispatch: "...Dennis is already rolling."
Just gave me a great idea. I want to build an app for them that works like a life alert. Just hit the red button on your phone and Dennis is summoned. I do it for a living so wouldn't be difficult.
Probably not. I mean the owner yes, but if he was out of the picture due to illness his children or whoever sold it, probably didn't know anything about the state of the engine. It was very cheap, so that's a bit suspicious, but on the other hand if you buy it cheap as is and just start driving it, you probably can't really complain if your engine goes bad.
I doubt it. The issue likely emerged from the engine sitting. And the engine was not together when hoovie bought it so there was no way they would know.
Every time I feel the urge to replace my vintage motorcycle (still have but sitting for years) and car (sold to someone who was nostalgic for the exact vehicle he had in his youth) . . . I prescribe myself 1 or 2 Hoovie videos. Works every time!
I laughed when Hovvie called truck driver by his name, they know each other very well, no suprise there hahahahaha...seeing each other every week probably.
I remember an old episode of Roseanne where Roseanne worked in a hair salon. A homely woman came in with a photograph of some beautiful model and said, "I'd like it if you could make me look like this." Roseanne said, "Sure thing. Just let me get The Wand."
Somehow, I think Tyler and the Wizard knew this engine was toast. Tyler added the Smurf stuff for entertainment. They already had planned to replace the engine.
Well Tyler has a channel to run and a certain reputation to uphold. He can't go about buying perfectly running and working cars. Viewers demand hoopties. Hoovie's Garage is not scripted to a tee but Tyler does look for cars that will most likely result in an interesting setup for our viewing pleasure.
He really was. That's actually a pretty insulting thing to do after giving Hoovie his diagnosis. If someone did that to me I would have told them to get their car out of my shop. After finishing the video I will give Hoovie more credit - he was mostly messing around, but it was still kind of a dickish thing to do.
@@jasonk9779 yeah it's the joke, the dumbest channel on RUclips. It's showing you things that can go wrong. I doubt Hoovie is really that clueless. Especially the whole Wizard in a bottle thing. He is entertaining.
I used Restore in a Chevy LUV long ago and checked compression before and after 1000 miles and it DID indeed increase compression. I don't recall the numbers but it was substantial.
Just for anyone trying to get a few more miles out of an old hooptie using engine restore, it does take a couple hundred miles for it to fully kick in. It worked wonders for my friends old Camry that has a weak cylinder. It brought it back in line with the other 3. Great stuff
It's also totally possible the engine wasn't put together correctly or was roasted when it went into storage. Sitting 5 years is no issue, especially since it cranked a long time before starting.
That would be killing the goose that laid the golden eggs. Just one more customer like Hoovie and the Wizard will be set for life. A fat IRA and pension, a Chris Craft yacht, and he could afford to buy Hooves Bentley and afford to fix it.
When Car Wizard cautions you about engine issues, that’s a tip to park it until tear down and rebuild....BEFORE it blows up. Have to torque those compressors carefully to avoid twisting the case, which causes the leaks.
@Leon Barnes I can say with almost absolute certainty that they both knew the engine was a goner, and Tyler was prepared to have it out. They probably have the new one on the way already, because why would he go kill a rebuild candidate the rest of the way?
Honestly, I want to see what went bad on that motor. It doesn't matter how many time I see motor tear downs, I still love watching and learning from them.
Yeah, what's with him not wanting to tear down and rebuild that engine? And not mentioning that the Wizard could do that? When all his cars are finally done, I wouldn't accept him back. There's no way of telling how Hoovies shenanigans could backfire on your business.
@@eefneleman9564 Wizard's labor costs would make it crazy expensive to do a total rebuild. Hoovie would probably be better off getting a long block rebuilt motor, but even that is $$$.
Heck, I'd accept an "I Do Cars" style tear down, just to see what happened. I can understand it from the Wee-zards POV though. Rebuilds do take a lot of time and he does move a lot of other cars through his building as evidenced by the constantly changing cars in the background and his own videos. Those things being said and done, this would be a great crossover project for a more traditional "hotrodding" engine building YT channel, or like was suggested in the video itself, a good swap-ortunity. I'd personally find it amusing (and exceedingly odd) to see a semi modern straight 6 in the car. I doubt he'd ever go that route, but it would be akin to the Wizard's V-12 Malibu.
Buying any "unfinished project" car should be treated as if nothing was done. Tear it down, build it back up RIGHT, this way you know what was done was done correctly. I know Hoovie doesn't like to get his hands dirty, but he should know this!
Hoovie I just remembered something, tell him to check the oil pump, sometimes on these replacement ones the holes dont line up, and are made too small to work right, its something Nick at Nick's garage checks for when he rebuilds these.
Here in Aussie years ago brought a HD Holden Panel Van advertised as not going. Went & had a look at it. It had a brand new Repco long motor installed 3 months prior & was still under warranty but at idle had a bad knocking noise at idle. Owner was going overseas & just wanted to get ride of the vehicle. We bought it cheap, got it home & put a new oil pump on it just see see if it made a difference. Ran sweet as a drum. Went around Australia in that thing & did over 25,000 mls & never miss a beat. Sometimes you can get lucky.

Not likely. Removal and installation maybe but I think the wizard has said he doesn't have the time to build engines.
@@JohnG6 Yup, Wizard doesn't do engine rebuilds. Need a specialty shop for that, and frankly, I wouldn't want anyone who doesn't do nothing but full engine tear downs and rebuilds full time to touch it.
Gotta do it right too. Yes! Big, thin, and made of wood. My favorite.

I feel like the previous owners were aware of this
Probably not.
My bad I meant the original owner/person who was rebuilding it
I doubt it. The issue likely emerged from the engine sitting. And the engine was not together when hoovie bought it so there was no way they would know.

Roseanne said, "Sure thing. Just let me get The Wand."

Somehow, I think Tyler and the Wizard knew this engine was toast. Tyler added the Smurf stuff for entertainment. They already had planned to replace the engine.

Of course, but it makes great entertainment
Well Tyler has a channel to run and a certain reputation to uphold. He can't go about buying perfectly running and working cars. Viewers demand hoopties.
Great stuff

I’ve never seen the wizard actually angry. It’s actually upsetting
Why would he be angry? Hoovie is singlehandedly funding his retirement.
@Leon Barnes I can say with almost absolute certainty that they both knew the engine was a goner, and Tyler was prepared to have it out. They probably have the new one on the way already, because why would he go kill a rebuild candidate the rest of the way?
Yeah, sad thing is that if they'd torn it down prior to overheating it and giving it a serious knock, might have just needed bearings and rings.

Good excuse to do an LS engine swap.
Hoovie I just remembered something, tell him to check the oil pump, sometimes on these replacement ones the holes dont line up, and are made too small to work right, its something Nick at Nick's garage checks for when he rebuilds these.
Even if the oil pump is the problem the engine is already a write off because it spun a bearing
Too late now. No oil pressure = dead engine. It needs rebuilt.

It had a brand new Repco long motor installed 3 months prior & was still under warranty but at idle had a bad knocking noise at idle.
