- Post-mortem photography allowed people to have an image of their deceased family members and they used them to remember and mourn loved ones.
Post-mortem photography was particularly popular in Victorian Britain. From 1860 to 1910, these post-mortem portraits were much like American portraits in style, focusing on the deceased either displayed as asleep or with the family; often these images were placed in family albums.

I’ve not seen a lot of these you posted. Thank you. I’m fascinated by death. Almost morbidly so. When I was 20 I worked at a local mortuary. The people that owned it belonged to the same church as me. And because I’m a heathen and didn’t attend much they hired me to man the phones on Sundays. They lived above the mortuary. All you could see from the office was one of those old hairdryer chairs. I never did get brave enough to go down there. But the office was filled with medical books. So I was entertained. Never did get a call when they were gone either. Sorry for clogging up your feed every video. 😊
I went to college for mortuary science. I only did it for a little because the internship was a year and you, basically, made minimum wage where I was at. I just couldn’t afford to make that wage for a year… so, I changed careers. I regret it a lot of the time… 💔💔💔
