    I am saddened by your story as I just recently lost my 9 year old daughter to brain cancer after an 11 month battle. We watched many of the families we met with dipg suffer through this beast but much like your angel their smiles told their true story and showed that loved truely does conquer all.
    I will make these hats for my angel daughter Rebeccahs younger sister Madelynne; and attempt some for our local hospital.
    My prayers are with you and your family as I know all too well the feeling of heartache and loss.

    Well, I made one Ana hat to donate to a little girl, I hope she can feel my love and good vibes while I was crocheting it. I’ll take a picture of the next hat I make because I forgot to do it this first time. Here in Peru, public hospitals don’t have heat so I hope these hats keep those little girls warm while in there. I think it's awesome that you have offered this pattern for free. I'm a knitter though and have never been able to wrap my head around crochet. I'd like to add this to my charity knitting list. I'm pretty sure I could convert it to a knit pattern but would need the measurements of the different bands of color for the Anna hat. Thanks again for being so thoughtful to pass the love along!!

    • @HandmadebyHaley
      @HandmadebyHaley  9 лет назад

      The bottom blue color and one strip of orange on the Anna hat is 2 inches in height. The boysenberry color varies depending on the size. I talk more about the measurements on the video from the 24-25 minute marks. Check out that section and let me know if you have any other questions! :)

    My 3 year old niece just lost her father to an opiod overdose last month. It's making Christmas hard for her. I see her pain and have felt it, my father passed away oct 23rd by a heroin induced heart attack when I was just 4 years old. I remember thinking Christmas wasn't worth it without daddy there just like she is. I'm making her this Elsa hat and me and my boyfriend are taking her out to a caribou reserve in the mountains (she'll get to ride a reindeer on Christmas!) in the hopes that she can get a happy memory out of the month. Lots of love 💗❤💛💚💙💜

    Don't feel bad about the big companies stealing your hat. Lots of people have kids, nieces, grand children, etc. and lots of those kids went Frozen crazy. Of those kids, there were lots of crafty moms that tried to oblige.
    The earliest version I saw was a scarf pined and tied to approximate the ice princess hair. This was Dec '13 when her daughter came home from the movie with ice stars in her eyes. Next (about a week later) it was replaced by a thin knit cap with yarn hair attached and side braided, By the little one's birthday, in Jan, a crocheted hat with braid was created to eliminate the problem with the longer loose pieces of yarn hair over the crown of the head. Some loose pieces of 'hair' were left in front and tied up to one side to approximate the bangs. A matching waist length cape was made to go along with it. I think it lasted about 5 months before getting stuck in the closet. Not a bad attention record for a 4 year old. You loveing gift and creativity is not deminished by the love that other moms felt for their own little girls, It is just shared!

      @HandmadebyHaley  9 лет назад

      I am sure you are doing nothing wrong at all! :) People crochet with different tensions etc. Sounds like you just have a tighter stitch than I do. Just go off the measurements you need. It's more reliable and you will get a better fit than sticking to a written pattern in my experience. Use Anne Granger's sizing chart as a reference. anniespictureperfect.blogspot.com/2013/01/how-to-properly-size-crochet-hats-chart.html Good luck!

    I have a very close friend, who is 66 years old, he is battling two brain tumors, one on each side of his head. I have turned into Dana Farber Hospital in Weymouth, 29 cancer hats, most were knitted on a loom. The others were knitted with double needles. If I have your permission to make these hats for both of my granddaughters, and then I cam make them and bring them to Dana Farber hospital in Weymouth, I promise I will say that these hats are in memory Brylee.

    hi , i am hoping to make this hat for a 4 year old girl who has lost her hair from cemo. she lives in Arazona, her grandmother thought pure cotton would be good, do you think it would work ok in cotton. i am a beginner at crochet

      +irene young Cotton should work great. Just make sure the cotton is medium weight yarn (not too thick or thin). Let me know how it goes!

    Hi, I've made a start on the Elsa hat and done 12 rounds but it's only measures at 5", I am using chunky yarn too. Should I do another row of white?

    • @HandmadebyHaley
      @HandmadebyHaley  7 лет назад

      Donna Nichol Yes I'd add another round of increase as needed.

    • @donnanichol5223
      @donnanichol5223 7 лет назад

      So should I do a round of double crochet or should I frog the rows of 1 double crochet and do 2 double crochet and 6 of 1 double, then do the single rounds. If that makes sense lol

    • @HandmadebyHaley
      @HandmadebyHaley  7 лет назад +1

      Donna Nichol Yes to the second. :)

    Love that you did this for her. Such an amazing story. I have a question though.... I followed your tutorial to a T. And I did what I thought was the child hat. And it is to huge that it fits me.. So I don't know what I did wrong? Help?

      You must have a looser stitch than I do. It is important that you follow measurements rather than exactly what I did. Take a look at the measurement link provided in the video description. Good luck! I am sorry the fit wasn't what you were hoping for.

    Do you have to start with a magic circle ??

    • @haleybirkeland9879
      @haleybirkeland9879 9 лет назад

      No, if you can't do the magic circle, simply chain 6, slip stitch together and the do you 10 double crochets into the circle.

      You must have a looser stitch than I do. Either use a smaller hook or go off measurements rather than following along exactly. Check out the chart by Annie's Picture Perfect anniespictureperfect.blogspot.com/2013/01/how-to-properly-size-crochet-hats-chart.html

    Why do you chain three before doing a double crochet?

    • @HandmadebyHaley
      @HandmadebyHaley  4 года назад

      When doing a double crochet and working in rounds or rows it is common practice for you to you chain three when starting a new row or round. This chain 3 counts as a stitch and builds up the round /row. If you skip this step the round will not look correct and dip down.

    • @HandmadebyHaley
      @HandmadebyHaley  9 лет назад +1

      The magic circle can be tricky for some people. You can always chain 6-8 and then join your chain together. Then crochet your first round into the chain (not into the individual stitches. Crochet into circle you've created). It also may be helpful to watch different videos on how to do the magic circle. I highly recommend this one. You are able to see much more clearly how she creates the magic circle. How to Crochet a Magic Circle Let me know if this helps!

    • @elliehsu7325
      @elliehsu7325 9 лет назад

      I am confused on the part when you double crochet. I crochet a full circle instead of just a line. Then there is a huge hole in the middle.

    • @HandmadebyHaley
      @HandmadebyHaley  9 лет назад

      Ellie Hsu
      You are almost there then. Once you finish your 10 stitches then pull the yarn you've been crocheting over tight to tighten the circle. The hole will disappear.

    • @HandmadebyHaley
      @HandmadebyHaley  7 лет назад

      debbie edwards Not at this time. The instructions are written at the top through the video though with rounds listed. So you could skip ahead and follow along that way.

    • @debbieedwards5360
      @debbieedwards5360 7 лет назад

      The reason I asked for the last to four and five rounds I don't have enough stitches like for instance when you had 2 stitches when you do 3 then you do too then you do 3 at the end I only had two places for two stitches left and that's what happened in the round before that so not sure what I'm doing wrong I went back and we counted everything so I know it's alright because I've been watching your video I wish could see a pattern so what do I do if I don't have enough stitches to work with to add another stick with it

    • @HandmadebyHaley
      @HandmadebyHaley  7 лет назад

      debbie edwards You probably just skipped a stitch somewhere. Just keep following along. As long as you are getting the other increases it should turn out just fine!
