This is an excellent instructional video. I really appreciate how complete it is. You have included anatomy, cleaning, and shucking all in one. And you have a very pleasant and inviting presentation style. Well done!

I live on Cape Cod and am lucky enough to have an oyster company right in my village. I just placed an order for my family's Feast of the Fishes next week; I do have a shell fishing license, but not the waders that will protect me from the cold! I needed a shucking refresher, and this was perfect -- grazie!

Thanks for this simple video. I love oysters but can’t go out to eat during quarantine. I just shucked my first dozen on my own and I quickly got the hang of it. Also oysters are much cheaper if you buy them at the store. The seafood clerk gave me an extra one for good luck and one of my oysters was a double stuck together. I’m never going out to a restaurant for oysters again!!

I live on Cape Cod, and just brought home a bag of oysters from the Cotuit Oyster Company down at the water. Even though I shellfish our local quahog clams, this is the first time I've had to shuck the larger oysters myself. Your video gave me the confidence I needed -- and by my 24th opening. I was getting pretty good! The Oysters Rockefeller are all set for our Christmas Eve Feast of the Fishes. And no more relying on the guys! Thanks so much.

Excellent video. Just to clarify, the oyster has one adductor muscle, connected to both shells. Clams have two, on either side of the hinge

You should try the East Hampton Shucking tool, it's the safest and easiest way to open oysters. You dont hold down the oyster down with your hand. It keeps your hand away from the knife.

+Karen Matthews dont forget to scrape the abducter muscles still attached off the shell too, those muscles are meaty very good tasting by them selves too almost as good as the body part. I use a spoons tip to scrape it all off clean.

I’ve had three raw oysters in my life. The first two were on Nantucket at my brother’s wedding reception in 2008 (they were catered by a famous oyster caterer, Spanky). I ate them in homage to the bride and groom. The third and most recent one was a few years ago at public seafood festival, also on Nantucket. I’m not a huge fan, but the pomp and circumstance around eating oysters makes it kind of fun.

On the NC coast, we held them in a leather work glove and shucked them in our hands. She didn't mention the little tiny worms that are swimming in the brine on the half shell--just eat'em with the oyster!

Poorly opened oyster. The top shell should be clean. You shouldn't be ripping all that lovely meat off when you remove the lid. If you're gonna make tutorial videos try to be good at what you're teaching.
