Ayyyy, Scaler is such an incredible tool. I use that and Hexachords' ORB Suite on pretty much every project i start. They're beyond fantastic for getting out of writers block.

Just because you mentioned it, the phrygian mode is very useful imo, I probably use it too much lol. The scale includes a minor 2nd interval (a half step up from the root, so C to C# in C phrygian), which gives it a certain mystical, ominous or dark feel. A lot of trap and bass music (as well as anything acid) is in phrygian, though maybe unintentionally. Having a bass or 808 play the root note and occasionally the minor 2nd above is super common and recognizable. Phrygian is also somewhat similar to some scales used in traditional middle eastern music.
And if you wanna write a 303 acid style melody, you could stick to the root, a half step up and whole step down (in C: A#, C and C#). Instant acid.

I've started using Ai as well as this plugin. Basically I'll ask the chord progression of a song and then I'll ask for a similar chord progression with a flat 6 or minor 4th or sunn and you get some crazy results it's fun

@@Alckemy Yeah I do, gonna wait to see if it goes on sale. I'm on the same page as you, and with this you can also learn. Not only that sometimes you got a melody that sounds generic because it doesn't have variations. My more complex knowledge is harmonic and melodic minors lol

I bought this one first but ended up going with Chordjam for simplicity. I think I tested them all, scaler, those captain plugins and Chordjam. Simplicity was key for me and they all seem to really go hard on the bells and whistles when I just want chords and minimal customization. I'll use my ears to make the progression make sense, you know...or just learn music theory but aint nobody got time fo that!

Awesome stuff, new to the channel and mostly work on hip hop stuff but good info regardless!
The tip about not scrolling through the scale degrees sequentially is huge, at least for me. You lose sense of what sort of emotions the individual scales/modes have to offer!

Is there a way to invert the “drag zoom and pan” function? I find it really difficult navigating through the arrangement as I’m fresh from Ableton and the controls are exactly inverted. Any help?! Definitely gunna be keeping a closer eye on your channel now that I’m on Bitwig!

Scaler is a great tool. But I won't be buying it because I already have Captain Plugins,Orb Suite,Orb Composer and ChordJam + riffer. These tools all do the same some do it even better as you can change the cords in the plugin itself (like in captain plugins and orb) I actually would rather test melody sauce. So if you do not own any of those midi/chord/music theory tools go for scaler :) and if you are like me and have no clue on music theory and can't play an instrument go for scaler. I sadly discovered it too late as I bought the others before...oh and there is this tool from WA productions who is even more sophisticated (or better suited for lazy people)
