I have some experience with a national level choir, and I REALLY liked the open effect. It really reminds me of singing at some of the concert halls we performed at. The reverb of that open space is ethereal and bone chilling.
Should Scru listen to the rest of the EP, I think he might understand why it's being used and may soften on it. There's a tone being set and it's most definitely not whimsical.
Yeah, I definitely got the choir vibe from that effect and I think it really sells the feeling she's going for.

The fresh/new vibe you feeling out of DemonDice in this album, is due to this project being a NEW beginning for her name, after having delt with some issues regarding her other persona. In this EP, she's combining those 2 styles while keeping it as REAL as it's always been. So those who know about the other persona can easily tell that this EP was heavily influenced by the experiences she got, after spending time writing songs for her other line of work.

Partly to maintain the facade for those who wish to perceive the other fictional persona as fictional and not have that layer of separation broken, but also because the wider known that info is, the more distasteful and potentially harmful folks have the opportunity to target the person instead. It's not doxxing per se but it's in the same vein.

also, demon dice's got all kinds of fun NDAs/non-disparaging agreements with a company that controls if she gets to stay in japan or not now that she's no longer teaching, so at the very least she has to not talk about it/have too much noise --which includes her personal music not causing any headaches for them.
The english audience has changed how this whole thing works, so did Kson but it does also need to be remembered that DD is indeed in japan, and idol culture, and all it's baggage and stupidity, is more likely to hit her then some of the other EN girls. The wall is coming down a bit, but unless the streamer explicitly WANTS it to not just winks and smiles and references, it's still just good etiquette to take whatever character is in front of you at face value

Her whole EP she's dropping right now is straight fire, then you get to "take the bait" and the whole album gets elevated to another level, straight goosebumps in every song

I personally have to agree with scru. The verses and the beat hit so hard that the tone of the chorus kinda throws it off a bit. Nonetheless a very good song
I actually really liked the effect on the chorus when I first heard it. To me it gives a kind of reverby vibe, as if she's speaking in a church or cathedral, which fits into the whole god/devil theme. But I can get why someone wouldn't like it.
it's funny cause to my ear it almost feels like it's flattening out her voice despite it likely being meant as a reverb effect
I thought the “echo” effect of the chorus simulated a mostly “empty” room; similar to how her achievements felt empty/hollow to her.
It was a nice touch in my opinion.

I think you will get a lot out of Take the Bait. A few little vocal effects that may be off-putting based on your tastes, but for the most part it's very much what you've been looking for out of her. Solid lyrics. Cool internal rhymes and flow switches. Vent track that goes hard.
This song and the rest of the EP is FIRE. Let's goooooooo! I think that effect sounds better with headphones, for the record.

pretty unique as far as her previous releases go and just full of energy
I like the effect on the hook. It feels spacious... It's like the music is being played at a concert hall but you're listening to it behind closed doors from the restroom.
I think works well to convey feelings of separation and distance.

That particular effect gives me more a vibe of shouting into an empty warehouse, begging for someone, ANYONE, to hear you and understand.
I feel like the FX and wide soundscape of the chorus really add to the hollow theme of the lyrics. Especially when the panning business comes through in the final chorus

This is why I love Demondice so much, this is RAP RAP and she's so fuckin good on top of that. I didn't like the effect in the beginning either cause I felt like the sound and her voice was kinda muddied by it?
Maybe just to my ears it didn't sound as clear and harder to understand but I think I get what she was going for. I can't really explain, I'm not well versed in all the musical terms but it almost feels like a choir and the echoing makes it feel like a very open space. It emphasizes the desperation of wanting more, kinda like screaming at the heavens or w/e you know? Could be totally off but that was my guess when I listened to it. I ended up liking it a lot more the more I listened.

There's a reason so many people like DemonDice's rap style but not the style of other rappers, myself included. It circles back to you pointing out the 'poetry' part. Rap isn't just the beat and rhymes. If it's just that anyone can make a song rhyming 'money' with 'munneh' and other low-tier trash. But to be able to put ideas and concepts, in layers, in that song and bring them over crystal clear, THAT differentiates the talentless from the dedicated.
I like the chorus a lot myself. Maybe it's just personal taste.

The context of this whole ep is from her new job at a “restraunt” so when she talks about how fame hit her it’s just her dealing with the sudden popularity she gained. Not as demon dice but as a worker in the “restraunt business”

She's literally talking about her time as a waitress at Applebee's. Like the time she got a customer review about her stank booty.
But. It still stands that it's a bit of a venting piece over the duality of her success and the haters + corpo clean image she has to maintain on the otherside

Hey scru, my input is the echo did kinda remind me of a choral arrangement; it also reminds me a little bit of other hip-hop songs that had that in them. Although, this is a different direction, its not a choir but there is a little bit of layering with DD's voice here. I'd love to hear her original thoughts on that part.

First off so happy you’re reacting to this, I saw the EPannouncement and listens to all 4 on band camp and loved them all. As for this specific song I’d say it’s probably #3 for me personally just because I love the 2nd and 4th songs the most. As for the effect on the chorus, it didn’t bother me personally but I can see how it takes you out of the song. I couldn’t help but get the feeling of an older time hip hop vibe from the beat and effect (maybe it’s just been a bit since I heard it but it gave me kinda ‘gangstas paradise’ vibes with that effect). If I’m right on that note it wouldn’t shock me as she’s stated she loves the OG’s and has such respect for the older big players so she may have been going for something like that

What I like about DemonDice is how you can feel the Raw Emotions on her music.

tbh, she got a kinda slim/eminem vibe to her music, in a god damn good way.
I think the reverb/doubled voice in the chorus is to emphasize that this is a conversation between her past self and her current self. There are two voices in this conversation- the one that we hear is DemonDice, and the second which will not be named out of respect. This solo bridges are from DemonDice's perspective, calling out the "other". But both voices join together in the chorus to agree on their shared ambition, always wanting wanting more.
One way I look at the echo effect on the chorus, personally, is that its a song reflecting back and criticizing herself, and by proxy her career/life. Kind of like looking in a mirror, and seeing your past self echoed back at you through the reflection.
You gotta also react to Take the Bait from that EP as well.
Apparently Musicality worked with her on this EP, which has done alot of stuff in the Nerdcore scene, liked worked with DaddyPhatsnaps and others.
