      pretty much hololive has Japanese creators while some of the hololive girls know english it not enough to be fluent, so they made a English version where the streams are in english as the main language and Japanese too. there is also and Indonesian version swell. and hopefully by march or after that there will be more En hololive girls since they are holding auditions for english singers.

    As far as Calli herself and vtubers as a whole go, they're not quite like Gorillaz. They're real streamers who do a variety of things, from gaming to music. While Gorillaz are fictional characters in a constructed band, these vtubers are actual people streaming, just under virtual models, and often with some level of a persona.
    Where this is important to take into account especially is that Calli has her persona as the grim reaper's apprentice she puts on for the streams and songs, but this song in particular is very much a letter directly both to her current audience, and also to the audience that has been with her since before she started streaming as 'Calliope Mori'.
    Also, it's 'Hololive English' because Hololive itself is a Japanese company, an 'idol group' for vtubers.

    • @KaozKaiser09
      @KaozKaiser09 3 года назад +35

      Yeah it’s far more easier pill to swallow by saying “think of Gorillaz” then explaining Eastern Idol culture to a Westerner that doesn’t know much about Japanese stuff. Since “Idols” in the west are not really a thing.
      It’s like trying to explain to a person that doesn’t speak English how to use the word “Fuck” which is everything, because “Fuck” can be used as a verb, noun, pronoun, adjective, adverb, or interjection.
      It’s simple, and its complex at the same time.

    "Live Again" was actually one of her first songs where she actually puts a bit more emphasis on the singing itself rather than the rap. She wasn't sure how well people would recieve it since she isn't really a "singer" by normal means but I think it was pretty damn good even considering that. and she certainly has potential for even better.
    EDIT: Also something to note is that Japanese by default is a VERY passaggio(might've used the wrong word?) language, basically meaning that even during normal conversation, the pitch rarely ever stays the same unlike an American or especially a UK accent, where you'll find a lot of people talk fairly monotone through a single sentence (at least in comparison to other countries) but you don't need to speak Japanese to listen out for an example. Just find a random Japanese video somewhere online where two or a group of people are talking and you can visibly chart out a graph to how the pitch of their voice changes within a short amount of time. Meanwhile for Americans or Brits for example, you subconsciously choose a tone based on the mood of your sentence and you stick with it (like a "curious" tone for a question perhaps).
    Not saying that's 100% the reason but in short, that's possibly why it sounds like she has a "better" voice in Japanese. She's natively an english speaker so she's still actually learning Japanese but she tends to use it pretty well in songs especially.

I know there's a bit of variation between vtubers (and youtubers in general) that find (or are linked) to reactions of their stuff, and those that very specifically do not. A majority of reaction youtubers don't have much to offer professionally, but SFJ can offer a different perspective on a shared genre.

    The fact that Mori is so good at so many different things doesn't surprise me at all . From what she said in streams and when she came in as a guest on the trash taste podcast , in order to get into Hololive EN ( the english branch of a Japanese virtual idol agency ) , she and every other girl in that is in that agency had to compete for that spot , not only in their talent at rapping , singing , drawing , etc. but for how well they can play in the character they're given and how well they can entertain an audience live .

    This song was like a "thank you and welcome" tribute song to her new fans and her old persona's fans - a beginning of a new journey. Immortalized forever in the songs that we write; when my old soul's finally gone, I'm not sorry, but I wanna see you again some time...etc.
    8:32 happy to see you like that mixed language verse too. "Ja mata" in this context is "seeya later", similar to that. Which explains the verse a bit more, and yeah the Japanese rap bit hit hard, I wish they translated it in video. But that's the beauty - you just hear the sound! And you can feel it's good.

    I am awe of Calliope Mori, I admit it. She got bars, speed, and the ability to rap in English, casual Japanese, and formal Japanese (which is almost a separate language). Not to mention the fact that western music is chromatic (8 note scale) and the Japanese music tradition is a five note scale. The person behind her avatar is insanely talented, and is able to utilize those talents while acting, writing, and making music in character. It is INSANE. (Aaannnnd this would be why VTubers are taking over the algorithms. In addition to the cute anime girl does cute things trope.)

    The reason I love this song so much is because it comes so dangerously close to crossing the "4th wall" without actually crossing it. In the Vtuber world, you have your Vtuber identity and your previous life. It is taboo in many communities to talk about the past lives of Vtubers(I will probably make some people mad just by making this post) , But listening to the lyrics of this song I interpret it about her letting go of her previous identity completely and embracing the Mori identity. Her old beats arent anything to scoff at either. I wont name her deadname here, and I dont suggest reviewing them either in respect for her current identity, but it isnt hard to fall down that rabbit hole if you know where to look.

    Cover Corp - the parent company - has 3 (technically 4) subsection to my knowledge. Hololive (which is Japanese) HoloID (Indonesia), HololiveEN/HoloMyth/HololiveEnglish (which is English) and Holostars, which are just 9 Japanese dudes at this time. There's auditions being held for another Hololive English subsection called HoloSingers, which I guess is going to be like a singing idol group but that's speculation on my part. The way I see this song is kind of an acknowledgement and loving goodbye to her gig before becoming Calliope. Vtubers, especially ones contracted by companies like Hololive, usually have entertainment backgrounds that they don't talk about since they're supposed to stay in character. I feel like this song focuses a lot on acknowledging the past "lives" so to speak, and moving forward without forgetting about them. The references to art sticking around after death really drive that note home for me, too.
    In my opinion, this is one of the best ways I've seen a vtuber reference this aspect of the job, and is also a really beautiful look at the feelings associated with the "death" of an old persona while you go to "live again" as a new one.
    To add some info to your question at the end, Hololive is broken up into (currently) 3 branches. Hololive/Hololive JP is the main branch based out of Japan. They are the largest branch and the original, with 32 members broken up into 7 generations (0-5 and Gamers). Hololive EN is centered on English speaking talents, and currently has 1 generation. 2 of the 5 talents are based in Japan (Kiara and Calliope), but all 5 speak primarily English on stream. Hololive ID (indonesia) is the final branch, with 2 generations and a total of 6 talents. Each one can speak English, Indonesian, and Japanese to some extent. There are also a bunch of collaborative streams involving members of different branches.
    It's a wild rabbit hole to jump down, and is only a small percentage of the Vtuber scene on RUclips and Twitch.

    If you have an idea about Idols and idols groups when it comes to J-pop & K-pop Hololive is a company that’s essentially the same but virtual like the Gorillaz and Hatsio Miko.
    And I think that’s a reason why we do a a little bit of the floatyness with some of the songs and also the cheerleader like delivery that you’ve mentioned before and yet it’s still a little gold nugget here on RUclips.

    - Hololive ID is the Indonesian brand which covers the Indonesian languages, English and Japanese most of them are multilingual
    - Hololive EN is the English brand which is the most recent addition. They were introduced around 3-4 months ago and they speak mostly English some of them can speak Japanese like Calli hear and even used it to speak with the other members.

  • @Acorn_Anomaly
    @Acorn_Anomaly 3 года назад

    I love this song because of the double meaning it has, meanings to both Calliope as Calliope, and the person behind Calli.
    As Calli, it's a song about how one day, she will come for you as the Reaper, and she doesn't regret that. That's simply her job, and everyone must face the Reaper at some point. She does regret being cast in "history" as evil(obviously, people don't like the idea of Death, of leaving everything behind, or their loved ones being taken away), but she doesn't want you to see it like that. She wants you to know that she watches over your life as your Mori, and knows just how precious all those moments in your life are. She wants you to realize how much more precious they are simply because of the fact that they're fleeting; they're not endless. She simply wants to walk alongside you as you experience the beauty in life, and reiterate how she's glad she can share your happiness with you as your Mori.
    And then, she hopes that, when the day comes when she must stand before you as your Reaper, that you can embrace her as a friend and look back on all your precious, happy memories together, with no regrets.
    As the person behind Calli, it's also got a second metaphysical meaning. Calli, like most of the talent in Hololive, has previous experience with internet streaming and being an internet personality. Before taking on the identity of Calliope Mori, she was quite a successful independent artist on RUclips. This song is her goodbye to that; thanking all of the people who have supported her up to this point, and hoping they will continue to support her as Calli. Also saying that, she hopes one day to go back to that, and hopes that there's no hard feelings about her putting that on hold while Calli's here.
