Electro Harmonix Mel9 / B9 / LesterK demo with acoustic guitar

- Auf meinem Akustik-Setup habe ich zur Unterstützung für meine Akustik-Gitarre (Gibson SJ-200 mit Fishman Ellipse Aura Pickup) ein EHX Mel9 und B9 Organ Machine, die permanent aktiviert sind. Umgeschalten wird per Switch Blade+, Volume wird per Pedal geregelt. Beides läuft danach durch ein Delay-Effekt, um etwas hin und wieder etwas Sustain hinzuzufügen (das beim Abstoppen der Gitarre das Mellotron bzw. die Orgel noch etwas weiterläuft/ausblendet). Danach gehts in den Lester K Leslie Simulator, der beim Mel9 wenig Sinn macht. Den habe ich nur für die Orgeln des B9, damit man schnell und langsamen Leslie schalten kann. Außerdem kommt dadurch etwas Stereo-Effekt hinzu. Man könnte mit dem Switch Blade+ auch beide gleichzeitig erklingen lassen - dann müsste man aber den Leslie Effekt vom B9 reindrehen weil der Mel9 sonst auch durch den Leslie läuft. Ein Feld zum experimentieren. Das Gitarren-Signal läuft unbeirrt durch ein Zoom-Effekt-Pedal, mit dem ich mir ein paar Klänge für Soli gebastelt habe und dann in einen TC-Helicon, mit dem ich einige Sachen mit den Vocals machen kann. Gitarre und die EHX-Effekte gehen also getrennt in den Mischer.

I no longer use a volume pedal on my current board. In many situations it is difficult to estimate the volume - so I rely on the markings on the knobs. The board is expanded with a Fishman Triple Play. In some situations I want to play the piano. All trough the Tri Parallel Mixer from Electro Harmonix.

Sounds awesome, I thought about splitting the signal to two amps so I could better separate the sound of the mel9 and line it up with my delay so I could have it trailing behind a little more or ad additional affects. Now I think I want the B9. No woman no cry sounded very cool

Sounds great. Very nice demo. I have acoustic with piezo pickup (under bridge.) I use Electro Harmonix LP B-1 Linear Power Boost pedal 1st in my signal chain. Also Morley ABY pedal allows me to turn guitar or MEL9 off or both Guitar and MEL9 on with a foot tap.
The SONY wireless unit looks like a must buy for me too. Thanks for a great demo.

+JAT002 Yes, the Mel9 ist really great sounding. Unfortunately, the Lester K sounds not as good as the Rotosphere i had before. The speaker simulation cuts off the high frequencies of the organ. This is a great simulation, of course, but the Rotosphere lets you switch it off, so the organ sound harmonize better with the acoustic guitar. Eventually I try to find one on ebay and offer the Lester K.

Great demo. Would you be so kind as to throw another one up with the wet signal on the Mel9 up a bit more, dying to hear what it sounds like especially on strings and choir setting and you have one of the best sound quality set ups I've heard demoing. Cheers

The the LesterK was replaced by Rotosphere - this thing don't cuts off the upper freqencies so much like the LesterK it does. This sounds better by using a acoustic guitar.
Is it possible to separate the sounds of the mel 9 and the guitar?. so that all you hear is the effect?

I'm fascinated by this video, and inspired too. I'm certainly not a pedal pro, and I'm having a bit of difficulty figuring this out. I guess I have a few questions. 1) Are you running into the switchblade into the "out" ports? I guess that makes the pedal reversible? 2) How are you splitting your signal to the zoom/Mel9? Another switchblade? And last question... 3) What type of "mixer" are you using to collect these signals again?Thanks for your help. Great video.

1) Yes, the wet signals of the two pedals going into the two outs of the switchblade.
2) This SONY wireless system has 2 outputs - one goes in the B9 and one directly to the mixer
3) It was a Yamaha 12 channel mixer i had used for live gigs. Now i have an Soundcraft UI16.

Never mind. I have changed my B9 organ pedal with the C9 and I'm waiting for the Synth9 as an addition.

Awesome Patrick! Is it posible to run guitar>b9>wet signal direct to the tc voice play and the dry signal to the rest of my electric guitar rig? So when i turn on the b9 i add organs thru vocal mixing and the other guitar signal out to the guitar amp.
This should work. Try the signal from the TC Voice->B9 and you can sing the organ! That‘s cool 😎
@@PatrickCebulla haha thats cool man! But you think i should try to run my C9 out signal (splitted signal) direct to the P.A or through the VLP gtx? Im going to buy a voice live play, if I can mix the C9 out into it so I can add effects like chorus, compresor and reverbs and do the mix in the gtx, but if I am gonna over saturate his processor I will go for the Voice live play (blue one) and run the C9 out direct to the P.A with no effects. Thanks!!

Have you tried getting like a low or high pass filter before just the fake instrument pedals? I bet it would be cool to cord off some notes so its more realistic
Is there a way to change the sounds of the Mel9 pedal mid performance (I'm looking to get a layered orchestral sound with a looper pedal and the Mel9 and I am planning to play fast guitar parts while bringing and layering on more and more sounds into the mix) will a Midi pedal switch work, or do I need to get a few more mel9 pedals so to get more sounds?
Mel9 has no Midi connector - you can only select the 9 sounds by using the knob.

There are two signal paths - one is the guitar trough the zoom (for reverb) an the tc helicon into the mixer. Path two goes to the Mel9 - dry out to the B9. The wet signals of both pedals lead to the A/B/Y switch. Then to the Volume pedal, delay, LesterK an the stereo to the mixer.

Frage: Welches Gerät verwenden Sie das Gitarrensignal auf der Strecke sauber und mit Gitarreneffekten EHX zu teilen?
Das Sony Wireless-Teil hat 2 Ausgänge. Man kann aber auch das Dry-Signal aus dem B9 anzapfen - da ist hier nicht belegt.

You have the dry signal turned off on the B9 and Mel9. Is you AB box sending your dry guitar signal directly to an amp? Or how are you doing it?
+JAT002 The dry signal goes through the Zoom and the TC-Helicon and than directly to the mixer. I only use the wet signal of both pedals, so i can change the volume of these pedals while playing. The stereo out of the Lester K goes also to the mixer, so i have 3 channels busy for all guitar work.
This is very helpful. Signal chain routing helps me understand how it's all going down. It sounds great, by the way.
What volume pedal name and model are you using In this video?

Bottom left is the LesterK - a rotary speaker simulation from EHX. I used it for the B9 Organ Machine.

Nothing before the Mel9. After the Mel9 its a simple delay effect and some reverb inserted in the mixing console.

Sorry im not expert in pedals, i have a b9 and wonder how with volume pedal you turn out the b9 and only hear your guitar, i mean why it doesnt low your guitar sound only the b9 and mel9? sorry for bad english
I have two signal paths - the guitarsignal goes straight to the mixer and the wet signal of the b9 goes trough the Volume-Pedal and the Lester K and in stereo to the mixer (3 channels busy).
