Great video and interesting choice of cars picked, although no diesel’s!! One on the list should have been the BMW F30 335D which is even more unassuming that these examples but with far better fuel economy and around 4.5 seconds to 60 with a top speed limited to 155mph but gets off the line probaly faster than all of these with the excellent xdrive system and huge torque figures.
This is a great watch! Need to start thinking about getting a real daily at one point (right now it's my mx5 nb haha) so this series in particular would be great help!
I bought this M5 (2011 model with 72k miles) in 2018... 22 hours / 148 miles after I drove it off the dealership car lot it went into limp mode and broke down... high pressure fuel pump. Cost me about 1500 quid. 2 months later it went into limp mode again... cylinder missfire. I sold it 5 months after I bought it trading it in toward a new 3 series. Within the last 2.5 years of ownership brand new off the dealership showroom floor the car has had to go to the dealer for issues 6 times with 2 of those times requiring a tow truck. I can't ever again recommend BMW to anyone from my experience.
VXR8 : Chrome quad tailpipes, massive rear wing, side vents, & front splitter. NOT really a sleeper. XFR : Bonnet vents, side skirts, deep front cover, massive wheels. A little bit of a sleeper. RS6 : de-badge it, and yes, it is a sleeper ! C63 AMG : It is quite a flashy car, but de-badged, it could blend in and be a bit of a sleeper. M5 : Big wide arches, massive wheels and brakes, but from the side, and front, yes a bit of a sleeper, love it. My favourite is the car I own. The M140i. I have debadged it, and unless you really know, you can easily miss the twin exhausts as they are black and blend into the rear cover. It looks exactly like a 118d M Sport. Stock they are as fast as everything else in this list, but the B58 engine is begging for tuning, and 650+ bhp is quite easily available, making it an absolute weapon of a sleeper.
Thanks for wonderful insight into the better "sleeper" cars JB but why do many of the newer BMs have that blowy sound when driven, I hear them often during the day from a main road almost 100 yards from me, sounds like an after rev blowing noises, almost a popping sound, not good from the aesthetic point of view.

Honestly most of these aren't 'sleepers' though, are they. Any petrolhead will spot them a mile off unless they've been debadged, and even then the exhaust note, multiple tail lights and aero treatment of any of these cars is enough to turn heads.
all these are ok so long as you go into them with a good sized cash reserve for maintenance. They're not cheap to service and maintain. Expect every bill to be £1000+.
You're better off just buying a shitbox and engine swapping it rather than buying a performance luxury sedan. For £20k I could buy an old volvo, engine and gearbox swap it for a k24 engine and still have money left to slap on a turbo, a suspension kit, and a limited slip diff.
