I’m sure Chase’s opinions and observations of the copy he tested are valid.
But, I have owned a 2019 FTR S for a couple of years now and it’s been pretty flawless on the negatives Chase mentions. Re the clutch, I might just be insensitive to it, since I have a BMW R1200GSA whose clutch seems to engage at random places in the throw, and I’ve had to calibrate my clutch hand to work not off of muscle memory, but actually feeling engagement. I’ve definitely never dealt with the surging Chase mentions, though I do think that at lower throttle, my FTR is a little “snatchy” on and off the gas.
I find the switchgear and controls, and actually pretty much every part of the bike to be of excellent quality and workmanship. Pretty much every part on the bike is solid and weighty. I will admit that I think the switchgear is a bit over-complicated: too many stalks and triggers for my liking. But Indian has made it so you can either use the touchscreen, or the joysticks and other affordances to interact with the firmware (I generally don’t screw with it anyway). My main issue has been with winter gloves: I’m constantly accidentally “flashing” the headlight due to that trigger/switch’s location.
The bike is a hoot to ride around town and in the country, though my 18” wheel version is def a bit more of a fast/powerful cruiser/poser than a hooner, but so am I (though I don’t care for actual cruiser bikes). It could be a bit more comfortable in the legs for me. As Chase mentions, the pegs are ever so slightly “snug” and I’m tucked in the legs just a little more than I’d like. Depends on the boots and pants I’m wearing as to how much it really bothers me, though.
They mostly fixed engine heat issues on the 17” wheel bikes, as I understand it. Mine will definitely cook your right thigh to a crisp on a warm day. Kind of nice in the winter though 🤡.
Every single person who has commented on the bike has talked about how it is one of the most unique and beautiful bikes out there. It is really in a class of its own, IMO, and I dig it a lot.

The good thing about the high price for what it is is that many people aren't buying these carbons for the full price so there are SO MANY carry overs now. You can find this exact bike brand new for like $14k now in 2024. I don't think it's worth $17k, but for $14k... hey...

Indian does have a problem, across FTR and the Scout. Only brand that's tried to kill me twice, with what seems to be a bad programming or design of power delivery under specific situations. Most of the time it was during left lean situations at two very different speeds. 45 and 7... The 7mph was an aggressive high side due what seems to be bad geometry and horrific power delivery. Complete lack of throttle response for about 0.5 to 1 second, followed by an overflood of power. Not fun... I own an Indian, Kawi, KTM, Honda, and a couple of dirt bikes. Never have I ever experienced anything like this...twice!

I recently tested a 2023 FTR Sport, and I thought it was superb. Mild mannered and comfortable riding around town, and it comes alive when riding through twisty country roads having great handling and loads of instant power available in any gear, very confidence inspiring. The FTR can be a hooligan, but it also is happy taking it easy if you just want to leisurely sweep around the countryside enjoying the view. It does generate some heat in slow moving traffic, but no more so than my Ducati Monster 821 used to, and I didn't find it excessive. It is a bit expensive, but then so are many bikes from other premium brands, and it's different not a boring clone without personality.
I loved it, in my opinion it looks superb, and it's great fun. The FTR R Carbon is top of my purchase list.

@jasonlayton8760 I have been very interested in this bike, but the price is definitely a stretch, although the liter naked bikes are getting high too, and 100 miles per tank are laughable. Drop it $3k-$4k and give us 150+ miles per tank!

Look for a used one if you must. A lot of people say after the 2019 model it lost a lot of its character when it went to the smaller wheels. There were other changes that were made post 2019 that were unfavorable, but I forget what they were. There is a pretty sweet exhaust + tune combo for the bike, the exhaust is called toce@@TheFamilySwogger

OC - Never ridden an Indian before, but just knowing what I know about EURO 4/5 compliance, I'm sure it's a tuning issue that most mfg are having to comply with. If you can get a decent tune put on it, it would help regulate the air/fuel mixture a bit better. My Diavel 1260 has a similar problem. Great content as usual Chase, keep it coming!

Weak?...you sure you tested this bike? Dude, I have a zx1400, a Carbon Diavel, (As well as a vrod muscle, CVO Convertible...profile photo, and a CVO RK...none of those as a power reference for to this bike) but yeah, I have lots of seat time on super-bikes, and while this Indian is as far from a true Sport Bike as it can get, it certainly is NOT weak. I don't even like Indian motorcycles (EXCEPT FOR THIS ONE) and after test riding the FTR Rally and the Carbon, I'm about to buy that Rally. 0 to about 80, this damned bike is a beast!

I dunno, might be splitting hairs here. I rode an FTR carbon at the Indian ride today. Sure, it had a lot of power, but the transmission felt clunky as hell to me. Also, it didn’t turn into curves as fast as my Triumph. Truth be known, I preferred the Indian bobber. It still had 100 hp, and was all comfortable to ride. Still, the wheelie factor of the FTR brought a smile to my face. My favorite bike was their big full sized, water cooled dresser style bikes. I guess I’ve gotten old and like driving a couch down the highway.😂

Chase on seems to really hate this Bike... this is an example of cruiser bike riders should just stick to what they know. Check out Motojitsu's Review of this bike for a professional review of 2 of the FTR 1200 models. This is an advanced riders bike and not for beginners. If you cant ride it in Sport Mode its too much bike for you and you shouldn't ride it. I bought a New 2023 FTR 1200 Sport from Indian for $13,057 last month. It has the torque and handling of a liter bike with a flat track naked look and feel. I have owned a 05 GSXR 1000, Katana 1200, 1200 Bandit, several smaller bikes and currently selling my 2008 NightRod for a couple reasons. 1. Missed having a bike that corners well. 2. missed instant power all through the RPMs. 3. Wanted a current model that parts are not obsolete soon. 3. Bought a FTR 1200 after looking at all the drones built in Japan, italy and were ever KTMs are built to find I really wanted a wicked quick Hooligan medium sized frame bike that had 2024 electronics (cornering ABS, Nav, Music etc), a sport bike feel with naked bike ergo's, and I wanted a bike that was rare on the street. Chase thanks for crapping on the FTR and keeping others away from it. Its a beast and way to much bike for most cruiser riders...

The low speed or steady speed characteristics of this bike are very weird. I have such a love/hate relationship with this bike. Currently it's a love love - it's a really fun bike to ride at high speed. At low speed it's herky jerky and strange. Love the cruise control but again at low or moderate speeds, it's still herky jerky. It is not super comfortable for longer rides and the fuel mileage is awful awful awful, but it is an incredble machine and fun as hell to ride!

It’s an American motorcycle it’s not metric so it’s going to be quirky. I am taking delivery on a FTR tomorrow. As always great video.

It is not necessary For the screen to cycle through everything. Just a few seconds for the fuel pump and you can start it up.

Completely different types of bikes. The power delivery on this is more like a hammer, rather than the smooth progression of the MT. This is more flat track hooligan than a naked super sport.

17k bike and has the ugly 1980’s turn signals , should be LED’s , and that license plate holder just kills it for me ! Plate / signals should be under the seat ! For their TOL bike…..it’s lacking ! Other than that it looks bad ass !

Bar end mirrors, aftermaket exhaust and some type of undertail plate holder.
That would round out this bike.

The 2022/23 models (apart from the Rally) have a lower seat height than the original 2019, it's now 780mm (30.7in). I'm only 5ft 8in with a 31in inside leg, and I can flat foot on it.

I absolutely loved the FTR when I demoed it. It isn't that light though. It's over 500lbs iirc.
Edit: Indian really needs to work on their fueling in a big bad way. Even the Scout I test rode was kinda wonky.
