I wonder how the Unitune compares to a real strobe tuner? I've been using a Turbo Tuner and also an older Conn Strobotuner but would love the convenience of a clip-on. True strobe tuners have an advantage of displaying a rotating strobe pattern in real time. Not a pseudo pattern of arrows or changing colors etc. To me , tuning with dead on accuracy has always been more important than the newest gadget out there.
Hello acoustic61, the Polytune / Unitune actually have a strobe mode that is a bit more accurate than the chromatic mode: +/- 0.02 cent (strobe) vs +/-0.5 cent (chromatic). The movement of the strobe lights bothers me, so I use chromatic mode. It's an option here though.
Let's see - both Unitune and Polytune will work as a chromatic tuner, meaning you can play one note at a time. So no matter what your tuning - standard or alternate - you can play / tune one string at time. The Polytune also has a function that lets you strum all 6 strings at once in Standard tuning and see what's in tune / tune the strings. The Polytune function (strum all 6 strings at once) only works for standard tuning, not alternate tunings. Again, either tuner would function as a chromatic tuner though. Hope this helps.
I thought the one on the top polytue had brighter light and a little bigger or wider lights. I’m looking for the most accurate/ but one that I can read outside as I play a lot outside. Your thoughts.
Not sure if the Polytune is brighter... could be my imagination, but I feel like the Polytune latches on to the notes a little better. They're both a great value, but I use the Polytune on my guitars these days. Thanks for stopping by!
I don't have room on my pedal board so I'm looking for something just as good. The poly is $40 and uni is $20 right now. I'm trying to decide which to pick
Even though I mostly use it for a chromatic tuner, I use the PolyTune. After more use, I found the PolyTune was a little more responsive / better at tracking than the UniTune. In theory they should have the same performance - it could be due to slightly different components? Anyway, UniTune will work ok if you're on a budget, but go for the PolyTune if it doesn't matter to your budget.
Either one would work. In theory, the UniTune is all you need... but I prefer the PolyTune lately. I could be imagining it, but it seems my PolyTune tracks the notes / locks in a little better. Good luck!
Yep, they're still both fairly similar - the unitune is basically just a chromatic only version of the poly-tune. If you don't want/need the poly-tune function, then the uni-tune is a good option. They're both good tuners though. Good luck!
It can be a little hard to read outside, in sunlight - particularly the letter indicating the note name (i.e. A, C, G), though the moving bar that shows how 'in tune' you are is a little easier to read than the letter.
So, what is poly tune mode? And you said it only works on standard tuning? What is the advantage of poly tune, that makes it worth paying like 50$ for a tuner?
Polytune is where you strum all 6 strings at once (open, without holding a chord or anything down) and the tuner gives you a readout on the tuning of all 6 strings at once (which ones are sharp, flat, etc.) Is that worth the price of admission? Only you can decide based on your needs. I've also used the D'Addario micro tuners on my ukes and they have worked well for me also. I like the TC Electronic on my guitar. To each their own I suppose. Good luck on your tuner quest, and thanks for stopping by!
@@BlueSkyGuitar2 Thanks for the reply. Yes I think chromatic will do me just fine. I placed an order for the Unitune (white). The white was on sale for 15 bucks and some change. Sounded like a deal to me. Have a nice Holiday
No, the Polytune has the feature to tune all 6 strings at once. The Unitune does not have that feature but otherwise would be the same. (I believe that's the one difference between these two similar models.) Hope that helps. Both great options for tuners btw.
i buy one and sometimes while i'm tunning he just shut's off... can u tell me if this is normal? i know that when u are not using it he goes off but mine do it when i'm using it
Hello Braulio - try a new battery; you can find them cheap on amazon, eBay, etc. Also, it may help to turn the tuner off when you're not using it to conserve the battery. Good luck!
It has a kind of auto switch off feature, it goes off after some time, so maybe you tune, and let it on while playing when you try to tune again it will shut off.
Haven't tried, but I don't think you could strum all 12 using the poly tune mode since the readout is only designed for six strings... So you might consider the uni-tune (if you only play 12 strings or otherwise don't need the Polytune mode). Either tuner is good / accurate as a chromatic tuner, tuning one string at a time. I was told of a mandolin player who loved it. Good luck!
Hmm good to know - so you have found it useful for tuning a 12 string since it will show you when one of the strings is sharp / flat... then presumably you could hone in to fine tune the strings that need it. Anything that makes tuning a 12 string easier is always welcome. Thanks for sharing!
For those interested, here is my review of the PolyTune Clip tuner that I mentioned in the video: ruclips.net/video/0eBVEEYaNk0/видео.html
Thanks for doing this. Exactly the comparison video I needed

Top review!!! Thank you. Thinking of getting the polytune.
Welcome! I've enjoyed both models. If you play in standard a lot, the PolyTune function is handy. Good luck!
super usefull man, thank u
You're welcome 😀 thanks for watching
Thank you for placing your tuner behind the headstock. Nobody does that. I prefer it that way.
Very welcome, Justin. That's how I like it also. Best!
Hi! Nice video! Does the unitune have the alternative tunings like the polytune?

Brilliant - this is what i needed - unitone it is !!!! i suspect they brought out unitone due to polytone not being 100% perfect

No 432 no buy ☹️
Correct - UniTune does 435 - 445
LOL.
432 is horribly faulty at best, only works "fine" within a couple octaves.
