  • If you have a Y filter on your drip irrigation or any sprinkler valve on your sprinkler system, you will need to flush it out of any debris and make sure it is clean. It is best to clean it out at least once a quarter, but may need to be done more often if your system is dirty or pumping sand like from a well.

Well done, nobody ever told me that filter was even in that manifold box. Or that it should be cleaned once in a while. Thanks.

Thanks for the video - I think this will help me with troubleshooting water coming out the sides from the filter.

Thanks. I noticed some of our community drip filters don't have a cap on end of filter. Is that ok or not?

Good demonstration, but those filters are designed so poorly! You can see that by doing what you just did, you're introducing debris back into the system after cleaning it. If they had attached tubing where that cap was, then you could flush them out of the box and not have all that sitting dirty water down in the box for when you screw the cap back on.

Yes. You must be careful not to introduce dirt and debris back into the system. I do know some guys who have made a hose to screw onto the filter to flush it outside the box. The top of this filter does have hose thread so it is possible to thread a hose onto it and do just that. I tried it not to long ago and it worked great. Thanks for your comments.
