    Yikes...she's flawless...and I love the way this song forces a great voice to be ironic and make fun of itself....she nails it

    Lovable, just lovable - I am particularly interested at 0'50 when she sings "si, mi chiamano Mimi, ma il mio nome è Lucia" - opening line of the soprano aria in Puccini's La Boheme. She sings with such beauty and expression that makes me think how many soprano roles could be advantageously sung by mezzos. An excellent example is Rosina in Il Barbiere di Sivigla - for about a century it had been sung mostly by sopranos - now mezzos have advantageously recuperated the role. I love to hear Elina in Tosca.

      Elina is one of the very few Mezzo who could sing as high as Sopranos.

    • @alejandrotm
      @alejandrotm 7 месяцев назад

      @@MusikPiratCH She is, in a way, a soprano herself (mezzosoprano = half soprano), except that her tessitura goes as high as B5, so all soprano roles that go up to C6 and above are out of her reach, hence why she has adopted mezzo roles mostly, although she doesn't seem to shine in all of them equally.

    Really wish someone would repost Elina's performance in this same venue of Les feuilles mortes. It was marvelous!
    Sadly, it disappeared from youtube.

    Elïna Garanča - Victor Herbert, Les feuilles mortes. Arte Lounge
    Produite par la télé ARTE LONGUE, dans ce récitatif télévisé, accompagné au piano par Victor Herbert dans l’ambiance jeune et bon enfant d’un café-concert Elïna ma sublime déesse du bel canto s’est muée en reine des chansons classiques avec une étonnante souplesse vocale en harmonie de la mimétique en tous genres des caractères et tempéraments: une magistrale démonstration de son étonnant talent de polyglotte autodidacte dans des chansons françaises, des lieder allemands et des songes anglais.
    Dans son interprétation des « Les feuilles mortes » de Jacques Prévert, un grand classique pathétique de la chanson française, Elïna Garança n’a rien à envier aux meilleurs chansonniers et chansonnière francophones natifs de naguère avec son brio lyrique d’une grande aisance : les basses et les médianes feutrées des couleurs d’une délicate douceur féminine de sa voix, son élocution française impeccable, surprend et émerveille les jeunes du public décontracté. Peter, son « Cavalier de Prose » enchanté.
    ________________
    Dans l’aria « Ah quel diner ! » de l’opérette « La Perichole » de Jacques Offenbach, accompagné de son jeune et jovial pianiste Victor Herbert à la touche pittoresque digne de l’ambiance enjouée, Elïna galvanise son jeune public décontracté jusqu’à l’extase par le passage du lyrisme pathétique au lyrisme comique avec une parfaite mimique du chant bachique d’une joyeuse fêtarde saoulée. Si ce n’était pas de l’exquise comédienne la maîtrise parfaite de ses gestes évocatrices et l’euphonie des lallations volubiles finement articulées d’ivrogne en goguette de sa voix adaptée aux plus incroyables variations du genre vocale, un spectateur superficiel aurait pu croire se trouver en présence de cette drôlesse d’Elïna, chantante devant le piano avec un grand coup de champagne dans le nez pour de vrai. Peter, son « Cavalier de Prose » enchanté

      Victor Herbert (Victor August Herbert: Dublín, 1 de febrero de 1859 - Nueva York, 26 de mayo de 1924) fue un compositor estadounidense de origen irlandés. Victor at the piano??? Do you think so?

      @@MusikPiratCH because Garanca is a soprano who is afraid of high notes. She’s not a mezzo, regardless of how she’s marketed.

    I haven’t heard a better version in terms of vocals and expression, but her mispronunciation of English words like screechy and preachy (and also French words like “embonpoint” and “avoir du poids”) irks me. Find out what you are singing, and how to pronounce it! She would never dare gets these things wrong if she were studying an opera, would she? Opera singers have to learn to pronounce all kinds of languages, why would this be any different?
