'Sons and Fascination' and 'Sister Feelings Call' were sold as one album here in the US, shrink-wrapped together, with a label 'Free Extra Album!' I thought--and still think--that was their best work: mature, forward-looking, technically breathtaking. It's nice to know that a live version of this beautiful song done more recently still sounds as good as it did back in the day.
This was my theme, while moving through a devastated city, at night , on a skateboard. Thank you Simple Minds for making such beauty for me, in Flint MI in ‘81 and beyond. LSD, a Sony Walkman and this music brought such blissful joy to a homeless young man in a burned out factory town. Truly some of my fondest memories of the worst of times.
Simply Genius. So tight and perfect. And the feeling, atmosphere: Feeling for instance like driving on a highway through endless urban-scape at night. Wow wow wow! Simple Minds for ever, my favourite band!
I came across these guys in my mid 30's by listening to my roommates old, dusty cassettes and wanting to expand my knowledge of bands unfamiliar to me. I was not disappointed.
Incroyable instrumental.
Saw SM at the Wiltern Theatre in LA 1983; they opened with one of the most fantastic versions of Theme for Great Cities. Extended intro that took off when Gaynor hit the drums. One of the best bands ever.
I love this band so FUCKING MUCH! That closeup on Mel Gaynor shows a man WORKING SO HARD. What a drummer! And Jim Kerr... what can I say? Jim is an elastic and gorgeous reminder of what the 80s (and beyond) were. This band was so groundbreaking, it's hard to put into words. Thank you, SIMPLE MINDS, for ruining so many needles on my old record player. I love you!
I first heard this in early teens then a few later when I morphed into a raver in about 89 Frankie Bones played a mix he did under the name of "Corporation of One" in a rave and everyone absolutely nuts.
lot of people saying this sounds best it has ever sounded but for me the bassline is played right as far as the notes go, but it doesn't sound like it should. To me atleast. The original recording is better. Maybe I've listened to it too much and I can't deal with it when it doesn't sound the same. :D
+sanmal88 Derek Forbes was at heart a guitarist, but they put him as a bassist, and that's how they ended up with such a driving, dance vibe. Once forbes was gone the music fell flat. TBH grimes is the closest they've come since, you can tell he really respects the music. Unlike gillesbe and his charity shop usb keyboard - clearly he thinks if he plays the same notes in the same order as MacNeil then its the same. Clearly not.
Sintonia de mi programa de radio en los 80S llamado MENTES DEMENTES... Desde el 106.6 de la FM en Valencia.... Saludos de Juan Carlos... SIMPLE MINDS FOREVER...

Derek Forbes - RIP! Cheers from Sweden - and take good care folks! We are not alone - at all!!!

Awsesome live version of a truly magnificent song. Derek forbes and Brian Mcgee would be proud of that rhythm section!!
