Henry, I think you should have noted that when you're using Lockdown Mode, if someone you haven't previously called with Facetime calls you, although their call will be blocked, you'll receive a notification of the attempted call, so you can call back. 🙂
7:38 I actually prefer that my devices ask before allowing an accessory to connect. I heard once a while ago about someone could hypothetically connect something to one of my devices and install some malware, so since then I have an option set on my iPhone and Macbook to ask for permission every time an accessory connects Macbook setting is found in Privacy & Security, "Allow accessories to connect" iPhone setting is found in Face ID & Passcode, "Allow access when locked" / "Accessories"
The same way you turned it on! Go to setting/privacy and security/ and scroll down to turn it off again. Or if you actually watched all of this video, it tells you at 11:14
my guess for why you can't search for messages is that imessage doesn't do the normal parsing it would do with the message due to the history of imessage exploits
Just look it up and compare the features yourself. Email is a terrible protocol for privacy anyway compared to messaging services like Signal. Proton already gave emails of protestors to German authorities
Huh, I didn't know lockdown was even a thing and literally none of the negatives you have listed are a concern for me... Actually several of them I see as positives. Turned it on and I will see how well it works.
@@techlore Thanks! That is awesome that you are watching comments even on videos this far back! So far so good, I also tossed onto my phone newdns and my vpn... My approach for mobile security/privacy so far has been to use RDP to connect to my computer and use my much more advanced setup through that, it is rather tedious to do so this gives me a medium level of that. Doesn't help so much with anonymity but that is usually the hard one anyways.
Thanks for this thorough breakdown, Henry. I was looking for a simple explainer about this to share with people in my life who are less privacy obsessed.
Any idea why my phone would be BURNING HOT to the touch at random times while fully (100%) charged while in lockdown mode? Can someone articulate the most likely reason for this?
On Lockdown mode my baterry last much much longer. And if i want safe battery even longer lockdown+location services+low battery mode makes my iphone last much much longer. Curret battery % on my is 88! (Iphone 8 plus (64))
Lockdown Mode has some drawbacks for me. I can't mute or accept calls with my Apple Watch, which leads to awkward situations during calls. I prefer to manage calls discreetly without having to grab my phone. Additionally, iCloud tools on the web are restricted, preventing me from accessing Apple Mail and Calendar, which I rely on since I don’t use a Mac. The privacy benefits come at the cost of convenience, making me reconsider using Lockdown Mode.
@@ProBallerJake7 that sadly is a true statement while i like the idea of lockdown mode, the convenience is something hard to let go. As time goes by I might find myself a solution that does fulfill my needs, while taking a step into the direction of security ofc :)
Google Pixel and Apple iPhone get security updates the instant Apple and Google release the them. Other phones get security updates when/if Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile decide to push the Over The Air (OTA) update AFTER they develop and integrate their own software stack into the OTA. This is assuming your phone is still new enough (less than 2-3 yrs old) that they don’t lose money wasting bandwidth on OTA updates for models they don’t sell anymore. Samsung is probably best cutting edge hardware but I will never buy one until they fix slow deployment and discretionary OTA updates
A bandaid until one switches to a Linux PC accompanied by a de-Googled Android Phone, while being in Apple's ecosystem there's no making yourself secure against Apple themselves.
Placebo is a tad harsh. Moderate privacy measures serve to highly discourage some sources of attacks which you choose to prioritize, but you can never be completely insulated until you disconnect, sure.

7:30 it actually makes a lot of sense, malicious peripherals are a huge vulnerability when they act as "user" inputs

I am using it since day one without any problems. Sometimes a call was blocked and reported.
I cannot turn off lockdown mode on my iphone no apps are working…how do I turn it off!

I didn’t see a video on the newly released advanced data protection. Will you to be doing one specifically on this?
I turned it on and enabled it as soon as it was available.
I also used ur Bitwarden link to switch from last pass
my guess for why you can't search for messages is that imessage doesn't do the normal parsing it would do with the message due to the history of imessage exploits
Will this stop someone that might already be in your iPhone remotely?
It will try stop them but it also locks down a lot of important information on your phone so they can’t access any thing else
A video on Skiff vs Proton/Tuta would be awesome!

When should I turn off lockdown mode if I don’t know when to or if I’m safe to do it
This was a great video on the user experience on Apple's Lockdown mode

Of course since it’s using less resources
Thank for the review 👍
Nice videos as always thank you for bringing attention to a feature not very well known.
In lockdown mode you can't share your screen in facetime.

Lockdown mode is not for you since you enjoy the convenience of many vulnerable systems

They say nso just figured it out and hacked to it. What's your thoughts now ? Is samsung as secure?
Where is the source
source?

Thx.
תודה!
i had to keep signing into shit so its a no go on my only phone
like on amazon, an accounts i dont pay for, the 2fa would go to someone elses phone

As long as you are connected to a network, your sense of security is a placebo.
Placebo is a tad harsh. Moderate privacy measures serve to highly discourage some sources of attacks which you choose to prioritize, but you can never be completely insulated until you disconnect, sure.
I don't think a de-Googled Android phone is secure either. Many of the threats are not from Google.
Raspberry pie tho huh that’s what I’m talking about lol lol I love it lol lol I love the taste of raspberry pie lol hahaha
🤓
so pretty much safemode?
Oh! You're Henry from The Surveillance Report!
I don’t think he knows what this feature is used for. You turn it on if you think you are being attacked. You don’t have it on all the time.
The Lockdown Mode is junk.
Still can hack with it on
You didn’t even use lockdown mode
Can Lock Down be reversed?
Yep, just toggle it off in settings and reboot
How does Facebook App spy on me?
You can’t even use TikTok while lockdown mode is on
Why would anyone who cares about privacy went to use that shite
I see that as a feature
Because Tiktok's main function is to collect information for the Chinese Communist Government
Lucky you
Hell yeah
First 😊
all this and that about "incognito" .. just us a decent VPN and TOR.. im gone
Right
I think I will just stick with Android
Same, and I plan to De-Google this thing
And I ran to see the video thinking that Lockdown was like Bootloader unlocking on Android.
Turns out it's just more Apple junk.
This tells me nothing on how to fix an iPhone that got locked down to get phone back. Useless video.
