When you drop the lower unit, wouldn't having it in reverse make the bolt under the rubber plug easier to deal with?

Good video, my Tohatsu6 got yanked by a rope so vibrates lil, but runs ok, but.prob should see if drive shaft is bent. So video has prepared me to disassemble, maybe bang it straight or just to know... I hear the side cap that popped off, does pop off, and some people Duct Tape it around to keep it on... Is Hangkai the new cheap option but Identical to Tohatsu? Thanks..

Good luck with the teardown. Hopefully this helped you out. Interesting to know about the plug, it makes sense. Hangkai is just a Chinese copy of a Tohatsu/Mercury 2 stroke. You can get them off Amazon or eBay for about half the price of the name brand.

Hi, I just bought Hangkai 2 stroke 6HP outboard, the lower part are similar with what you have on your video.. my question is, after I first use in the lake, i found some leaks out with green stuff ( grease + water ), the joint from the upper & lower part, the section leaks out is on your video unscrew and joint area ( not the lower gearbox area ) .. is that normal?? and inside will get wet everytime when I use the outboard motor ??

I just bought the same motor, and mine does the same thing, so it does appear to be a normal thing. Seems to only do it after running it an hour, but it doesn't appear to be causing any issues. I'm still in the break in point "got 5 hours left" but the outboard seems very solid.

Are you saying that all three of the motors are the same?

It looks near identical to my 4hp 2stroke mercury from around 2000ish. I think it is either a copy or they have alway been manufacturing them and other brands put their own sticker on them as they do now with some of the smaller tohatsu motors.

I have Tohatsu 6hp engine and I have a problem. When engine warms up to working temperature white smokes comes from water. on any gears and RPMS. And the smell is not good. What could couse this type of problems? Not a lot of smokes but everyone can see it when i am going out of the shore. Do you have any advice where to search the problem?

If it's a 2 stroke some bluish white smoke is normal from the oil burning. If not that, you could be getting water in the cylinders (cracked engine, failed gaskets).
