That’s why I believe Bourne films are the best in “secret agent” genre. He is not messing around: no falling in love with every woman he meets (like Bond), not making any jokes with your enemies. He is dedicated and can’t be stopped. He can be everywhere and nowhere at the same time - he could be literally watching you leave your hotel room or through the scope of his rifle. You can’t find him - he will always be somewhere much ahead of you. I could watch these films without any actions scenes even - just where he does his investigations/escapes are interesting enough

In many aspects, I agree. But the movies also started this horrible trend with all the extremely short cuts, extreme close-ups and shaky cams so you can't actually follow what's going on. Whatever is supposed to be accomplished _for the viewer_ can be done better with some other method, without unnecessary confusion (even intended confusion can be done better). Which implies that the _actual_ intent is something like hiding stuff the actor(s) couldn't do (fight scenes are all too commonly done this way now, instead of with wide-angle and long cuts so you can actually see the movements (and mistakes) of the fighters), or the crew lacked the abilities/funds/... to use other methods.

Yep, my great grand father witnessed the call from Jason Bourne. He was working in the same building back then. He said Jason Bourne was never caught in his lifetime.
I've loved espionage movies all my life and can now safely say Bourne is the one I've been waiting for. From, Man from uncle, Mission Impossible to James Bond and everything in-between, in my mind they were just the warm up acts before the main event, Bourne.
You should read the espionage novels by John Le Carre. He was a real MI6 agent during the cold War and then began writing spy thrillers. Some of them were even made into movies like Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

@@francisdavis1271 thanks for the movie tip I appreciate that I do like Robert Redford I would definitely be trying to watch that tonight thank you again
Which is why I keep coming back to him and the superb scenes. None of the recent movies in two decades have matched up to this classic series. Robert Ludlum has exceeded himself... There are quite a few books to extend his character if he wants...
How many of you recall Ken Follett's "Six Days of the Condor" which was made into "Three Days of the Condor" with Redford, Cliff Robertson, Faye Dunaway? Redford's character wasn't a field officer... but he was incredibly bright. Field craft keeps your brain from making mistakes... your conditioned not to do the same thing. Redford survived because the Company didn't assume he was capable. Jason Bourne was however a finally tuned field operative.. without a control. They should've been terrified
Yes, he was an analyst with a group of others who read books and write up their opinions on the scenarios. One he wrote up was one the CIA was working on and sent a hit man to take out the entire group but Redford had gone out to get them lunch. At the end was great between him and Robertson, personally I'd have taken Max von Snydow's offer. No CGI just good action, acting and suspense, difficult choice to choose which was better, Condor or Bourne.

I read the Bourne trilogy sometime around the late 80s... Ludlum was a genius writer and kept you on the edge of your seat from cover to cover.. even back then I knew that one day those books would be made into movies. In my mind, the best action/suspense trilogy ever made and very true to the original story as written by Ludlum.
I agree, you get way more details, reading a book, rather than a movie. Movies get heavily edited, in the end. That sometimes, leave out crucial details out.
I'm a bit confused as to how you think this is true to the books. Bourne is different, the main antagonist is not Treadstone, just one guy and that's only for one book. The main antagonist of the books doesn't even exist in the movies. Bourne isn't a stable person with amnesia as portrayed in the movies. He is David Webb and he's nearly schizophrenic from the trauma of what he went through and has borderline personality disorder. He has literal arguments in his own head with "Jason Bourne" who whispers into his mind to let him take over. In two when Marie dies was the last straw. In the books if Marie dies "Jason Bourne" takes over and kills EVERYONE. We see this. He's so far gone that he doesn't even recognize Marie when Marie is standing right in front of him begging him to stop.
@@TPund - You've clearly read them more recently than I... It was the late 80s and I've probably read around a thousand books since then... No doubt, the bourne series outsmarts many of the Bond movies .Bourne is portrayed as a no nonsense guy,he got unbelievable skills. Having said all that,it is really baffling to see that the supposedly best secret service in the world would choose such an office where anybody could see them through lens doing what they want to hide from the world. That kinda office might suit some interior designing/IT company ,most certainly not a secret service agency.
True, they could have covered their tracks better and they should have known better. But then again, Bourne is an agent that the CIA underestimates because of their hubris. And like the commenter right before me, that was the exact point. The best cover is the one you'd least expect. If it seems best suited as a IT/interior designing company, then that serves the mission best.
It isn't their main building. It's some random building that their using for now in another country. And hiding in plain site is good enough cause no one knows what that building is.

I'm surprised the civilians didn't see them and get scared lol
Most Hollywood directors are dumbass high school dropouts who sucked enough studio cock to move up the ranks, regardless of talent or worldly knowledge (or lack thereof), as such, Hollywood-produced movies are usually full of absolute shit like that..
maybe it was intentional
@@Funkteon jeez
So brilliantly written. Bourne is always one step ahead.
I'm watching this for the 100th time and Director Greengrass' fast cut aways and edgy script + stellar performances by the cast still gets the pulse rate up !
Never get tired to see once and again this movie saga, it’s a masterpiece on the intel world 🌎
Get some rest Pab. You look tired.
I'd recommend the first couple books by Ludlum, aswesome read
@@negator14 please do recommend. I am a fan of Ludlum's fictional works.
Indeed!
never tired of watching the scenes again and again...o my God such a masterclass
Just an incredible interpretation of the novels. Director Doug Liman understood the assignment and delivered.
Not only did he prove she could’ve been his target but also, who she was and what she looked like. This after her saying they should be a step ahead of him.
This line and the one when he’s in Noah’s (Wilson) office about having the conversation face to face, prove a point about who’s really in charge.
“She’s standing right next to you”
That would freak you out
There's always one person that just repeats the dialog of the movie
@chris furlanic isn't that a testament of a good movie?
Well I thought it was probably the best scene and best line in the entire series. Utterly brilliant.
@@JeremyMacDonald1973: Personally, my favorite line is: "If you were in your office right now, we'd be having this conversation face to face." Does it get more Boss Mode than that? I don't think so!
"she is behind you"

Bourne: "She's standing right next to you..."
Landy: Pees a little

This still sends chills down my spine. I was a kid when I first saw this movie (and read the books). I knew instantly that Jason Bourne was who I wanted James Bond to be.
V good summary
"Who's giving the orders now?". "Scary version? He is."
Yeah, that rattled a few cages, right there. Not just that he's giving the orders himself, but specifically that Nicky calls that the 'Scary version'.
At that moment, Landy and several others were about ready to shit themselves.
You know they all shit themselves when he said "she's standing right next to you"
Yep, my great grand father witnessed the call from Jason Bourne. He was working in the same building back then. He said Jason Bourne was never caught in his lifetime.
Yeah, that's not what you want to hear from someone who's apparently (Scary version) giving himself the orders now.
Glad SOMEONE is posting the reasons these movies were different from the typical action pap :)
Ni
highly unusual don't you think? delta tram extraction unsuccessful
No kidding, this is some fine writing
@@whispersilk the movie is based on a book written by a real writer, not someone from hollywood.
most thrilling spy movie of my entire life! absolutely better than any bond or other agent movies
A little late here but if you read this, you might like the series "The spy" starring Sacha Baron Cohen. Not the typical action styled spy story =)
If you are a fan, you owe it to yourself to see Alec Guiness as George Smiley in Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy and especially Smiley's People.
@@TheJeffRay21
Le Carre's material is paced more like dramas than thrillers, but it oozes with tension, political intrigue, and constant backstabbing nonetheless.
Christ I'd forgotten how good that was.
@madwilliamflint - re: "Christ I'd forgotten...." Do you often write to Jesus Christ on RUclips comments?? Ever get a response?
@@warriormanmaxx8991 At least the one.
Bourne Ultimatum: "Jesus Christ.."
Cinemasins: "Close enough."
For me Jason Bourne changes everything in action movies. Everything.
When you thought you were the one doing the hunting,
'She's standing right next to you.'
And then you realize that you are the prey.
Some of the best movies I have ever seen was the Bourne 'Trilogy'
He is always 3 or 4 steps ahead of everyone else
Yup
More like 3 or 4 laps.
5 of them in total but de 4th was with jeremy renner. the 5th installment was back with matt damon who nailed Jason Bourne. like i heard a lot before, matt damon is the only Jason Bourne
"She's standing right next to you"
*surprised Pikachu face*
The chill that went down her spine when he said ( she is standing right next to you). She knew at that moment she was in trouble!
The Bourne movies are my favorite movies that I've ever seen him in probably watched each one of them over a hundred times
Me too
Yep, me too!
Did you watch "3 Days of the Condor" with Robert Redford, Cliff Robertson? Based on Ken Follett's book. Redford was very bright; not a trained operative but clever... he runs the CIA all over the place. Not as cool as Bourne.... but fun
@@francisdavis1271 thanks for the movie tip I appreciate that I do like Robert Redford I would definitely be trying to watch that tonight thank you again
I would suggest the movie... "Good Will Hunting"......his performance is spectacular !!
gawd damn, you got Jason Bourne after you, you better just give him whatever he wants
The acting, scripting, directing and pacing of these films are just brilliant. Among the best ever in action cinema.
Which is why I keep coming back to him and the superb scenes. None of the recent movies in two decades have matched up to this classic series. Robert Ludlum has exceeded himself... There are quite a few books to extend his character if he wants...
"You wanna go home? Find Jason Bourne!" Serious bars by lil Landy
U wanna go home or stay overtime?
The first three Bourne movies with Matt Damon are three of my favourite movies. Real class.
The 3 first bournes were my favorite movies of all time. I doubt we will ever see such gems ever again in this genre.
the moment Bourne brings horror to the entire room, just brilliant!
The look on Pamela's face says:
"He can take us out anytime he wants."
@4:45 when the good guy scares people like a horror movie villian.
I just love this super star he's SO unique in what he does. A TRUE ONE of a Kind.
A fabulous series given it was made 20 years ago and Matt Daimon is the Meistro - Superb
She is standing right next to you! OWNED Pamela. Love the movie.
They should've been terrified
that is a very good movie
"three days of the condor" I remember it well ... one of my most favorite films ... a classic.
A favorite
Yes, he was an analyst with a group of others who read books and write up their opinions on the scenarios. One he wrote up was one the CIA was working on and sent a hit man to take out the entire group but Redford had gone out to get them lunch. At the end was great between him and Robertson, personally I'd have taken Max von Snydow's offer. No CGI just good action, acting and suspense, difficult choice to choose which was better, Condor or Bourne.
And that's how one finds out about the movie in 2022. Thank you! RUclips commments, gotta love them!
Seen these movies about 30 times and they still get my mind and heart racing.
These were the best movies series. the pace the acting , the cinematography , the casting
and WRITING
incredible
Wow I don't understand the negative comments bourne is probly the best assassin movie of this Era. All 5 movies are worth watching good writing good story good acting very good assassin good story writing about david web,,,Jason bournre becoming an agent ,, realistic action!
Read the original books. (Not the movie adapted ones) They are the best, and far different and better than the movie. I would agree only the first 3 are great. Legacy was rubbish, unlike the book.
@@smythie27 I read the first bourne identity from Robert lundlum .one chapter talked about his ability the rest of the book was plain boring.
Well the shaky cam and the bad fight choreography really bring down what is otherwise an interesting spy thriller.
Yous guys all realize that this is a remake, right? If you don't like it, find the original one with Richard Chamberlain and see which one you like better.
@@shelbynamels973 yes I watched bits and pieces of the original if you like that version go for it ,this version seems to have better and more action. I like this version .!
The cinematography in 1 and 2 is just amazing. They could never replicate that
The film editing, pace, color palette and soundtrack of this trilogy is still unmatched to this day.
“she’s standing right next to you”, is an absolute brilliant line!
These films are masterclass it has everything a spy would be no loose ends Matt Damon really to his career to the next level with these
Best intelligence film I ever watch... 👍👍👍
I am going to pull out my dvd player, and watch all these again. Thanks for posting.
Shouldn't have cut the "It's easy" part before he said that she is standing right next to you. Masterclass!
Fun Fact: during the scene @6:00 the word "tram" was said more times by more people in the shortest amount of time than ever in the history of this entire planet of earth. The writers were awarded the "best writing in a dramatic movie" award by the sweet little vietnamese lady at the video store, Amy Tram.
I know this is late, but I noticed that too. I wish I hadn't because it's funny, and you just can't unhear it. Give my regards to Amy, lol.
He's on the tram.
And the music to these films is simply brilliant!!
This is Jason Bourne still here thank you
Jason Bourne is basically a highly skilled individual with a new conscience he got due to the amnesia
Yeah that is one of the bigger difference to the book. Movie Bourne is like a different person after his amnesia
Neeson may have a special set of skills, Bourne has every skill known to anyone ever
Then john wick fucks him 🤣
You harm someone they love and treasure above all else, say your prayers, make your peace to whatever god or gods you worship because your dead, you just don't know it yet, you are a dead man walking!
One of the best scenes in Bourne series.
The connection between the Bourne series and Andor is why both are superb in their story telling.
"shes standing right next to you" is so terrifying i actually felt my stomach drop.
Pamela Landy such an iconic ,love her character
The screenplay of this movie is like Bullet Train. I think I forgot to blink every now and then during watching it. 🔥
there's a great line from Nikki when their all trying to work out who's giving Bourne his 'assignments'. Nikki, " scary version. He is... ". Fantastic writing & acting.
My all time favorite series. Tku Matt Damon !
I loved this scene. "She's standing right next to you" haha
this triology background score has something different energy which makes me feel the pain, or feel like loosing something, i cant understand its many years and i believe this score will stays with me for the whole life

The most brilliant captivating and lovable movie sequel ever ! Top of everything! Love you Sir Jason Bourne
This movie is a masterpiece
I know it's not Bourne and it's not intelligence but Nicky's "It's not a mistake. They don't make mistakes" part also gives Pamela a very clear indication Jason is not just some lucky asset.
"scary version? He is" - Nicky
BEST SEQUENCE! ❤
Jason Bourne showing for CIA who's really in control! Memorable scene!
Still one of the most underrated movie trilogies ever!!!!
The most impressive skill the CIA taught him was being able to find a cab when tailing someone.

You'll be happy to miss the mini-series with Richard Chamberlain as Bourne and Jacklyn Smith as Marie. This is far superior.
We must have read very different editions. Only the first book and movie share any thematic similarities and plot points.
I guess I need to keep in mind that social media is full of pedants and not rely so much on a fading memory when making a cursory remark. Thanks for the reminder that time takes a slow toll.
I will pull this movie up on Netflix or something to watch again. Brilliant anyway you slice it.
I traveled Europe for a couple years and always listened to the Bourne soundtrack when getting on and off trains 😂
If he didnt follow her to that exact building he will never find her and thats the point cause it looks like any building u can find everywhere
That's what you call hiding in plain sight..
It isn't their main building. It's some random building that their using for now in another country. And hiding in plain site is good enough cause no one knows what that building is.
I will follow the Sherlock Rule here: There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact!
