Thanks! I had the same kind of results (but far fewer targets) on a sanded-in Florida beach, with the Excal II with NEL 15" Attack coil, but it induced me to dig one hairpin deeper than the length of my carrot! I was amazed at the strength of that signal! I did have to be sure to switch out of PP, or had to have my T-Rex 180 degrees away from the coil. That is TOO sensitive!
Very comprehensive comparison Carter, thank you. I just replaced my WOT with the Attack on my Xcal and you are right about better stability. I kinda feel they are pretty comparable otherwise. I just wish I could see the same comparison you've done here on the WOT vs Attack. Pinpointing seems a little different but I'm getting used to it. I really enjoy your vids, thanks again. All the best, GL and HH from the left coast...
+Tony Eisenhower Tony, since I am able to run the NEL at a higher sensitivity level, I am digging deeper targets than I used to with my WOT. When air testing depth, they are both very close but the most important "usable depth" test in the field definitely goes to the NEL. Good luck!
Yep, kinda makes me wonder if the brush stroke is smaller on the Attack than the WOT. I probably should do a comparison vid, I have both coils, How bout it Carter. What do ya think..
+Tony Eisenhower The brush stroke on both 15" coils is similar but the big difference is the stability. I used to have a WOT on my Excal and it was unstable when wading. With the Attack 15", I have no issues and run a steady threshold in discriminate with the sensitivity at 7 (good for this area) while wading. Being able to run at the higher sensitivity levels, I'm going noticeably deeper.
That's exactly what I've been experiencing. 6 or 7 depending on the presence of black sand. Thanks for the input Carter, your expertise is very helpful..
Great job on the comparison video I too am out here on the left coast and watch Ton Eisenhower's videos on his 15" attack coil and would like to know where you purchased it.
How’s the depth compared to the stock coil? I know using a WOT on a sovereign when they first came out, I had to dial down sensitivity, so depth was similar, but naturally, more ground coverage?
thanks for that carter but i have a dilemma i hunt a beach that has wonderful old pieces on it only reachable at low tides and then at waste deep the tdi gets the depth to get to the clay base up to 18 inches but its risky my duel field wont do it i need one that will and be waterproof will that set up do the job thanks roy
Roy Manewell The Excal with the 15" NEL goes deep and is comparable with Duel Field but you will get more depth from a TDI Pro. A good waterproof detector that comes close to TDI Pro depths is the Garrett ATX. Carter
Other than trashier areas, easier swing and tight spaces does the 10” have any advantage over the 15? For diving which would you prefer and why? Thank you!
DetectorComparisons good point, for coverage would you use it in good visibility? Like my picture, my visibility is normally pretty good 👍 Thanks for replying too!
Thanks. DC for that video, I may have to put that 15 incher on my Excal. Can't help but wonder how many deep, deep targets the TDI Pro would of found? Just got mt TDI yesterday n need to go run some tests at the beach, ur videos r very informative, thank u...
+John Saldivar The TDI Pro will go deeper than the Excal with the 15" coil but the downside is you have no discrimination with the TDI Pro. If your area is fairly clean with not much iron, you should do well with the TDI Pro
+DetectorComparisons thanks for the info..i'm also in northeast florida where the ocean salinity comes in a close 2nd to the dead sea.. though on the wet sand i keep sensitivity all the way up on 10 with minimal chatter..i can only surmise that the nel would go deeper i'm just hoping once i slap on the nel that its a substantial improvement over the tornado and not another WOT mistake
+tasteegold7772 The WOT coil had issues being able to stabilize in salt water but this is not the case with the NEL. "Excalibur Dave" installed my 15" NEL Attack coil and it has been working great. Dave also works the Florida coast with his Excalibur & 15" NEL coil and he says it works fine. He is on a lot of the beach forums; you can get more details from him about how the NEL acts in FL waters.
+DetectorComparisons got ahold of dave two days ago and got plans to send him some work..thanks carter for the BEST detector info vids out there..honest accurate and to the point with no B.S..keep em coming my friend
Frogmaster Riviera I used the 15" WOT coil a few years ago on my Excalibur and it was a good coil but I am more stable in salt water using the NEL 15" coil. Both coils are good in wet salt water sand and go very deep.
+mstreasureseeker There is no question the TDI Pro is deeper than the Excal with the NEL coil but in some areas where there is iron, I prefer the Excal because it discriminates. If I am in an area with little iron trash, I use the TDI Pro because it goes much deeper. Carter
Thank you! I called Gold Diggers and Dave is installing it for me. I love your videos and can't thank you enough for the time you put into making them and making them available for us to learn from.
Question .... I have a G2 and Nel storm ... my coil overloads when submerged deeper than 400mm ... tried turning gain down .... threshold down .... ground balance in water ... nothing helps .... how does yours work under water ? Nel tell me its the sand .. tried explaining that its the WATER doing it but they not paying much attention
+Brian de Cruz The Excal with the 15" NEL works very well while wading in salt water. Are you using your G2 in fresh or salt water? That G2 is a good detector for getting small gold but I have not tried it in the water.
+Brian de Cruz That's your issue. The G2 is a single high frequency detector that will react in salt water especially when under pressure and when there is water movement. All that salt content is very conductive. In wet salt water sand, you should be OK depending on your conditions.
Brian de Cruz Teknetics G2 frequency is 19khz. Which is too high to be used on wet salt water. Try a VLF detector with low frequency below 5khz. Like Fisher CZ21, Fisher 1280 Aquanaut, Minelab Excalibur, Minelab Xterra with 3khz coil, etc.
+Benz Detecting No. I am happy with the large Attack coil. The Tornado and Storm are smaller than the 15" Attack coil so I'm sure they would both work fine on the Excal but I wanted the depth and coverage so I went with the Attack. As stable as these NEL coils are, I would say its a safe bet that either the Tornado or Storm would be an upgrade over the stock Excal coil.
Roy Manewell Roy, you are talking about two different animals. The Excal goes deep with the 15" NEL coil but the Pulse Induction original TDI or TDI Pro with a 12" coil will go deeper. PI detectors are designed for depth but the trade off is you have to dig everything including iron. Thanks, Carter
I know you like XP metal... guess what: they are lunching a DEUS waterproof coil for saltwater use in september, that will be followed by a 30FT waterproof version of the DEUS by the end of the year.... (insiders news)
now that i got my attack coil on my excal i'd shudder to think what the depth comparison of the ATX to the nel/excal setup is..hope i didnt waste my cash
+tasteegold7772 You would be comparing apples and oranges. The ATX is a pulse detector and it will go deeper but you will have to dig everything including all small bits of iron.
+DetectorComparisons i'm aware a pulse will go deeper than vlf especially the ATX but since i only have the excal with attack coil and you have both detectors i'd still be curious to see the depth comparison of both before i invest in an ATX..maybe a vid?..or just a test and info on the beach if you get the time
+tasteegold7772 I did a video comparing PI units so you can see the ATX in action ruclips.net/video/3pNtGN6rWYkI/видео.html used nickels in this test so try your Excal/15" and see what you get. The depth on the Excal all depends on how high you can run your sensitivity; if you're in a good area and can run it up to 7 or 8, you will get depth close to the ATX (maybe 12"-14").
Thanks, this is the only comparison I've seen thus far. You rock, HH.
Thanks! I had the same kind of results (but far fewer targets) on a sanded-in Florida beach, with the Excal II with NEL 15" Attack coil, but it induced me to dig one hairpin deeper than the length of my carrot! Good night, where can I get the coil that is in Excalibur?
Very comprehensive comparison Carter, thank you. I just replaced my WOT with the Attack on my Xcal and you are right about better stability.

+Tony Eisenhower yeah the pinpointing with the attack doesnt seem like its heel and toe like on the stock tornado..alot more digging

Another great entertainer thanks. Ps on average how long does a flat battery to full charge take on the excursion?
Great job on the comparison video I too am out here on the left coast and watch Ton Eisenhower's videos on his 15" attack coil and would like to know where you purchased it.
+Stephen Stonacek Here is a link to the authorized NEL dealers golddiggerinnovativeproducts.com/where-to-buy/Good luck over there on the left!
How’s the depth compared to the stock coil? I know using a WOT on a sovereign when they first came out, I had to dial down sensitivity, so depth was similar, but naturally, more ground coverage?
Beautiful cut!
Great video and comparison thanks

Much easier to recover targets with a 10" coil. Many areas I hunt I can't even film due to no visibility so finding targets is tough.
DetectorComparisons good point, for coverage would you use it in good visibility?
Like my picture, my visibility is normally pretty good 👍
Thanks for replying too!
I have used it in good visibility and I like the coverage!
where can you buy the yellow top T section ???
Thank you, I was just looking for his wheel on Excal. What do you think about NEL BIG?
Thanks. DC for that video, I may have to put that 15 incher on my Excal. Can't help but wonder how many deep, deep targets the TDI Pro would of found? Just got mt TDI yesterday n need to go run some tests at the beach, ur videos r very informative, thank u...

Had my Ecal 2 fiited with the Grey Ghost Amp headphones, now you can really hear the faint signals and the stay tight to my ears.
+Benz Detecting I am really happy with my Amphibians, a big improvement over the stock headphones

15" NEL vs 15"WOT from Coilteck?
Frogmaster Riviera I used the 15" WOT coil a few years ago on my Excalibur and it was a good coil but I am more stable in salt water using the NEL 15" coil. Both coils are good in wet salt water sand and go very deep.
DetectorComparisons Thanks a lot :-)
There you beachunting the beaches is black sand beaches?
how did you match up the wires when hardwiring them from the coil to the circuit board to the excal? I can't find any schematics online. thanks!
I did not attempt to do it myself. I had work done at 2 places; the Minelab Service Center at Kellyco and "Excalibur Dave" out of Florida.
Hey carter i live in florida can you hook me up with excalibur dave please? Thanks
Which do you prefer the Whites TDI pro or the Minelab Excalibur II for depth at the beach?
+mstreasureseeker There is no question the TDI Pro is deeper than the Excal with the NEL coil but in some areas where there is iron, I prefer the Excal because it discriminates. If I am in an area with little iron trash, I use the TDI Pro because it goes much deeper. Carter
tdi do not discriminate iron???
Do you think compaction would make any difference?
In shallow water its fine but at depth (diving) the larger coils tend to flex and become erratic. 15" is a big coil to dive with....
Great video and good coil.
How deep you can go with that coil?
thank you and good luck!
Metaldetecting Israel Using manual sensitivity, I was hearing the gold ring over 12" down in the wet salt water sand.
DetectorComparisons Nice!
And what about dive? the same meters like excalibur?
Metaldetecting Israel Yes. The coils are rated to 200 feet.
Does it matter which Attack coil you buy for the Excal, considering they dont make one specifically for it?
+Chandler Olsen NEL makes an Attack coil for the Sovereign/Excalibur. The same coils that work with the Sovereign also work with the Excalibur.
Thank you! I called Gold Diggers and Dave is installing it for me. I love your videos and can't thank you enough for the time you put into making them and making them available for us to learn from.

Salt water ..... coil overloads below 300mm .. so runs fine and when a waves comes in then I have to stop and lift it out of the water ...
+Brian de Cruz That's your issue. The G2 is a single high frequency detector that will react in salt water especially when under pressure and when there is water movement. All that salt content is very conductive. In wet salt water sand, you should be OK depending on your conditions.

not enough differnce to me as far as having to pay extra cash.i will stick with my beautiful orange dream wot..happy hunting.good vid

Frogmaster Riviera Sounds interesting; look forward to seeing how well it works.
I hope be true once! I love the deus in freshwater, but i couldn't set smooth working setting as Excalibur.
Great test Carter !
I'm guessing that Dave was able to help you out hardwiring the searchcoil ? Again, excellent video!
