Tony, great to see you back. Hope all is well. Best of luck with the new NEL Thunder on your Excal 2. I put a NEL BIG on my AT PRO this year. What a difference. New Machine looks great. I can not wait to see the results.
Great to have you back Tony. I still am gonna sent my xcal to you as soon as the warranty is up. BTW its easier to get to the xcal knobs if you are right handed to have them pointing to the inside rather then the outside with that set up. strick
Nice work Tony, My excal is finally working well. I am interested in the pinpoint switch mod and the carbon fiber upgrade. I might try just ordering a carbon fiber tube and starting there??? Good video.
I wonder if drilling a hole for the cable would allow water to seep into the shaft? I'm sure you seal it, but you know how water is and how hard it is to seal the backside of an angled cable.
First off ..... hello Terry!!! nice to see ya.... well yer feet anyway! LOL. and second glad to see ya back buddy... I'm really looking forward to tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's been to long... So I guess I will see ya than... I GOTTA GO TO BED NOW!!!
Nice! Way to show up my Attack! That demo looked pretty awful for the stock coil! No beep at all, in disc, at 11", none(?) at 9", and skippy at even 6"? That was shocking! Was there something odd about that sand? With my stock coil, I got quarters solidly at 9". With the Attack, I got a hairpin clearly at almost a foot, in disc, in Florida dry sand at Melbourne Beach. Anyway, congrats on your latest combo!
have you noticed an improvement Tony. using that coil? I'm Brian I met you at the beach in San Diego. near the amusement park. last year in early January.
Hi Tony: I got myself a Nel Thunder for my Excal for Christmas and I see that a plug is attached to the cable - Can you tell me what the pinouts from the NEL coil plug correspond to with the Excal cable once I cut it? What wire goes to what? Thanks,
Sure.. The NEL coil wires should be numbered one through four. All the ones I’ve wired connect as follows; One red, two black, three white and four yellow. Good luck buddy. Merry Christmas and happy new year
Hi. I had a Thunder coil on my Excal and did not like it. Very noisy in the water. I recommend the Tornado or if you want a larger coil the 15” Attack would be my choice. The best coil is the stock 10” in my opinion. I can replace the coil cable if the existing, individual wires are still good. If this is something you would consider, email me. Tony@idigbeaches.com.
The coil is actually for a Sovereign. They are essentially the same machine. If you don't find any joy finding it, PM or email me and I'll get you one.
Do you go in the water at all? I am thinking about doing a coil mod like this myself as an excal of mine has come out of warranty so cutting the cord is now an option. 1) Since I spend most of my time in chest deep water I am wondering if running the cable inside the shaft like that reduces water drag at all. 2) I also have an Anderson lower shaft and I am kind of worried about drilling into it... Wouldn't a hole in the lower shaft make it a lot weaker? 3) How does this Thunder Coil compare to the WOT?
Yep, I'm in the water up to my chest in the summer. My mods are all waterproof. I think interior wiring reduces drag a lot but there are downsides. You need a separate shaft for each coil and changing coils is not very easy. I drill the hole into the lower fitting so I think there is minimum reduction in strength. I prefer the Thunder.. It's a better build IMHO.
Hey bud. I think everyone is probably gonna give you a good deal to get yer biz. One of my fav dealers is thegolddigger. Talk to Ron and tell him I referred ya. It couldn't hurt😄
Tony-So the NEL Thunder Coil worked well on your Excal? I just wanted to make sure, I saw on line that it was for the AT Pro. It looks good on the video. If you give it a seal of approval on your Excal, then that's good enough for me. Like I said, I just wanted to be sure. :O)
Nice work! Tony, how deep goes 10" stock coil these days? In AM and DISC on quarter. Is that constant for your in wet sand too? Can't wait for that next hunt of yours! Good luck!
In your country is not so expensive a detector is not it? In Brazil and very expensive, if I had the conditions I would order one in your country, but until arriving here would cost expensive the same way, for now I will accompany you until I buy mine, good hunts for you, see you later.
REALLY TONY !!?? ..................... Your first video in a super long time and you don't go Treasure Hunting ................ I got all excited for nothing ............... I was looking forward to seeing you back on the Hunt bro !!!!
Hello Tony, my name is Alexandre, I'm from Brazil, I live in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, I'm registered in your channel, you have great videos, I accompany you and other guys who also practice detectorism, it's a great hobby, I'm trying to get a buck to try to buy a detector to start practicing also the derectorism, I want to buy a Polish Pi, a home detector, I can not buy a top of the line, like a claw, AT pro, bolt hunt, excalibu, Of these celebrities, here in Brazil it costs a lot of money, I intend to buy a simple commodity. I want to say that you have great videos, I do not understand anything you say, congratulations to the videos, I wish you good hunts, a hug and until next time.
Tony, great to see you back. Hope all is well. Best of luck with the new NEL Thunder on your Excal 2. I put a NEL BIG on my AT PRO this year. What a difference. New Machine looks great. I can not wait to see the results.

I wonder if drilling a hole for the cable would allow water to seep into the shaft? I'm sure you seal it, but you know how water is and how hard it is to seal the backside of an angled cable.

The coil is actually for a Sovereign. They are essentially the same machine. If you don't find any joy finding it, PM or email me and I'll get you one.
