glad to hear you say it, KBs passing wasn’t the end of Hoonigan. all the boys became re-engaged with what Hoonigan was supposed to be like, and we started to get amazing content again. then the big wigs shut it all down. just glad that we are getting that same passion in everyone’s individual channels now.
Please don’t stop on the M3 track car content. The growing pains and heartache are probably some of the most important parts of an expansive build like this that don’t get shown enough. But this is the reality, you build a car like this, test it, diagnose issues, fix it, and then repeat the process until you are confident in the vehicle. And I greatly appreciate you bringing us along for the ride!
Bad Daddy Braddy!!!!! Vin most of us have been following since the hoonigan days. Seriously glad that you, Zack, and Brad are keeping the real meaning of what hoonigan was alive for us true fans. Would love to see Danger Dan roll thru one day.
I agree that after kens passing Hoonigan was back on the upswing pretty quickly. The project garage videos were as Hoonigan as it got. And i was sad too see it get canned. Glad to see that kind of content live on with Vin though. The spirit of Hoonigan lives on with the boys.
I would go back and talk to smedding about this. They tuned it and built the motor so they would be the best person tell u. If they let it rev to 6900 and they didn't put proper valve spring for u to rev that high that would kinda be a blunder on them. Also good for them to know so it doesn't happen to their future motors
Yeah they kinda let him down honestly. The damage wasn't because of fuel leaning out or lack of oil, not "operational error" per se. This is more technical issue where the valve floats and got hit by the piston, Smedding should've accounted for it.
I don't know if E85 does the same thing that methanol-powered engines do, but if it attracts water, and they let the engine sit, the contaminated oil (oil always gets fuel contamination, no matter what) could have attracted moisture to the valve spring, and if the spring had a weak spot/defect, it could have corroded. then when he fired the car up after sitting for years, it was just a matter of time before it broke. an image autopsy of the broken spring will tell on this. also, there's a Steve Morris video about this exact problem with methanol engines and sitting. apparently methanol is WAY more nasty though. part of the fix is, don't let an E85 fueled engine sit for long periods of time. or if you need to, run it on ethanol free gas for a while and change the oil before storing it.
16:50 Tell me you're not a mechanic without telling me you're not a mechanic. I'll just slide to head gasket surface across the concrete floor for no apparent reason. 🤣
@@Notdb1gabe Both heads should go and combustion chambers measured so as to mill the minimum off as possible. Sliding it across a dirty concrete floor could put an unnecessarily deep gouge in it that requires more material to be removed. Since only one head is off that could result in slightly different cylinder pressure on that bank. Plus the head might have been perfectly fine and not have required any surfacing. Anyway you look at it, it was a bad move. I'd never do it.
Anyone whos owned, modified and wrenched on things with a motor always has that one project that just fights you through it's entire existence. I think the struggle car balances out the channel. There should always be a struggle car that infuriates you and illustrates that aspect of the hobby/life. Keep showing the grit and determination thats needed to see a tough project through and how it can be an emotional rollercoaster. That's a real part of being a car guy!
Vin, I mean this honestly. Your channel is really something special. Your production value is top notch and your content is always on point. You don't stay on one bit of content every week. You rotate your topics and try new things. I love it! Thursdays are becoming a day I look forward to now
Thanks for being genuine about the build. And.... You're right, RUclips doesn't show the growing pains. Keep the channel on your current vibes, it's refreshing and awesome to watch.
Man it feels good to see Brad again. And I bet it feels good to be with friends you can trust and just chop up with and catch up on life.. You know what doesn't have valve spring issues? Rotaries!? 😂
Dude! Great episode! Thank you for the update on the M3. Glad it's an easy fix. I'm ready to see you respectfully romp on it at the track. Also I'm just happy to help support in any way I can. Also loved the call back to Ken. Beautiful clip of an awesome man. Looking forward to next Thursday my guy. See you then. ✌️
The content you’ve been pumping out is absolute gold! Keep up the great work! This is honestly the best, most laid back, genuine car content I’ve seen in a while.
This became pure deja vu about halfway in. Memories helping my friend pull the heads off his C5 to find bent valves and marred pistons. Happy to see you not have to go too deep into it though!
When I first saw the M3 in person at Gridlife Laguna Seca…by far favorite car all weekend. I think it was due to watching the trials and tribulations of this car and seeing you lap it made me so happy!
Bro this whole build series over all this time has been amazing. So stoked to see you’ve found the issue. Absolutely love this channel. Your content has been top notch no matter the subject. Always look forward to the Thursday uploads. Keep it up vin 🤙🏼
Wow, lot going on in this episode. RIP KB. I followed him for a long time. Being a course marshal for Stage and TSD rally competitions, we crossed paths a couple times. Favorite build was the RaptorTrax. I think Hoonigan did some great things, but I also think it had run its course. But at the same time it freed you up to get back to driving cars instead of a desk. And after seeing some of the old highlights, you look better without the full beard. 🤣
Keep the highs and the lows content coming. It is a much closer representation to what all of us car guys go through. Also, side note, going to pick up a gen 1 Raptor today!
11:48 That’s exactly what has happened to numerous LS engines that I know of including the LS engine on my 03 Yukon it was burning lean and that is a known problem with these engines
Brad is definitely not a hack, he's the friend that comes through when car issues arise & with knowledge and he makes the issues seem insignificant with his confidence and getting it fixed.....Great dude 👍🏽 Great video and update on the car Vin 👍🏽
I was kind of surprised that you called in support given all the engines and cars you’ve worked on, but I also understand doing so. It’s always a confidence builder when you have a tenured mind in the room. Can’t wait to see you ripping in this thing again soon. You’ve inspired me to get my Firebird Formula out and row some gears this afternoon. Take care, Vin. Looking forward to the next vlog!
Shit, you deserve all the love. We're happy to be around as you do this. Honestly You could stand the upload more, it aint gotta be high quality. We will be happy to watch anything you post.
Love the breakdown of all the issues with the E36 and the attempts to fix. It's nice to see a "true" portrayal of project car life. Much different that most of the other RUclips car channels. Keep on keepin' on and I will keep watching and giving the ol thumbs up!
I feel you bro, I have 7 project cars right now. I live remote miles from my friends, no one will help me... I've spent the last 10 years trying to finish them. I have an e90 330i track car I'm trying to finish and an Escort Cosworth... I get close to the end and then its a slug to get them done... I literally have nothing left to give. Plus I just bought a Maserati as my new daily with the F1 gearbox and having so much fun in that like you are in the 360
So stoked to see this requires such a simple nothing fix. This is/will be my favourite car of yours to see content on, besides the GTI. I absolutely love this M3, and it's really one of my favourite sounding cars ever
Great video! Thank you for not using clickbaity/ red / mr beast style thumbnails and focusing on just great content. Good stuff! Excited to see what else comes
Keep posting this content! Loved it myself! I love seeing all the steps from start to finish. You at least found the issue and you know what you need to do for the repair. So now I'm just waiting for that repair video lol
Feel your pain, my E92 325i has just died, misfire, low compression, timing out. For sale if anyone in the UK 🇬🇧 interested. Lost interest in it and went back to a GTI 😎. Great content on this channel, keep up the good work bud 👍
Such a humble guy. Great episodes. Vin, previous track toy was my 240Z with an LS. Stuck it in a lamp post, wish all I had to do to repair that was a valve spring but that was entirely bent car not just a valve 😂
Minor damage is relief, hope you stick with this project it’s not a bummer it’s real. It’s helpful for me to see the trials and tribulations as I am building my own project car. Keep it up the content is freaking awesome.
Thursday's are my favorite because of your videos Vin! Even the "bummer" episodes are enjoyable and show, in my opinion, the parts of car building that really make it rewarding. The blood, sweat and tears all all part of it!

Love you Vin, can t wait to see where your story goes, my boys are to young, but I can t wait to show them some of the quality car content on youtube, mainly yours!
If you want less “heavy maintenance” like your into atm once she’s back together don’t rev it out quite so high. Give the hardware a 500-1000rpm “buffer” aka lower rpm limit. You’ll sacrifice some power/rev range but she’ll live much much longer. 🎉 party on in that bmw

Yes hahahaha
Oh my gawd bruh. That move hurt my soul...
