  • How to Brew Loose Leaf Tea. Tea Bags vs Loose Leaf Tea. Roimtea Tea Infuser Pot. Recently I read a report about tea bags that contain microplastics. Some tea makers are putting plastics in the bag as well as the adhesive that seals the bag. These plastics are micro-sized and are getting into the water when you brew your tea. A single cup of tea could have as many as a million plastic particles in it. Brewing your tea using the Roimtea Tea Infuser Pot is a great way to make fragrant tea without using bagged tea. The pot is made of borosilicate glass and the infuser is stainless steel. Brewing tea with the Roimtea Infuser Pot gives you tea without any tea leaves left in the tea. The results are highly flavorful teas that taste fantastic!

Hello DiDi. I never thought of the shelf life of tea. Maybe stores just have it for inventory or something (and to scare us into throwing it away?). Thank you for the nice comment and thanks for watching, we appreciate it.

Love the video! Small request please. Can you show a short video with the teapot used in the microwave. I have a bad experience and would love some clarity of mind. Thanks.

Thank you for watching. We appreciate it. While the tea pot is microwave safe, I feel that applies to the material only. It is made out of the same glass as Pyrex, thus I don't have any concerns with that. I worry about the the narrow neck and how that can trap heat and possibly not allow steam to release fast enough. Thus it might lead to something similar to superheated water that might get violent and cause burns. To me, it's not worth it. When I microwave water, I always use a coffee cup or a measuring cup so I know it has a wide opening. I believe the manufacturer has a video where they did microwave the water. Just make sure to remove the metal band at the top.

@@EricLearnstoCook Yes, the metal band was my main concern. Good thing to know that glass is safe for the microwave too. Thanks again for a great video. Keep em coming.

WOW! Thanks Amy for informing us! I had NO idea about micro plastics in tea bags. I really drink tea, I am a coffee drinker. In the Summer I will make iced tea sometimes. You can always use a tea ball as well.

I was so shocked to see the story. It makes me scared to use tea in bags. I know that microplastics are in a lot of our food but at least using loose leaf might be one way to do a little to reduce our consumption. I would imagine they will start bringing out tea bags without it at some point.

Since you're talking about 'micro plastics', do I dare bring up Organic Teas-? ... I've been drinking [organic] loose teas exclusively, for years. It's a delightful, refreshing experience. You should also mention that each type of tea not only has a proper brewing 'time', but also a proper brewing 'temperature'. Not all tea types require boiling [212°] brewing water, and taste much better when matched to their correct brew temperature.
This does look like a cute little infuser. Thanks so much for sharing this with us.

Thank you. This is a simple demo of this product, but you do bring up some valid points. I was not aware of the proper temps to steep various teas. So that is a learning opportunity right there. Organic vs non organic. Amy only drinks herbal tea due to her allergies, and I'm not really into tea. But it is interesting that you bring up the pairing of proper water temp to each tea. I'm aware that coffee has a narrow range, that does not include boiling when brewing (but for tea, we're just so used to boiling). Thank you for watching and your comments.

Wish you would have tried the tea first before adding all that sugar. Is the tea itself any good?

This was a great review. I love ice tea and make sun tea a lot. Of course that was using tea bags. I am interested in loose tea now.

Yea, I'd be interested in seeing how to make sun tea with loose tea (see if it works the same...I don't know why it wouldn't).

Hi Amy! Been a viewer of your channel for quite some time, but never commented before. Micro-plastics in our tea bags huh, I wonder what cancer causing food products will be on the news next. If your looking for some tasty decaf loose leaf tea, both hot or iced, try DAVIDsTEA. Their a company out of Canada with stores in the northern Midwest in the states. I purchase online. My favorite iced tea is Blackberry Blizzard herbal tea, almost like a blackberry “koolaid” with a hint of mint, so yummy.

Almost didn't buy this after seeing your video! I was looking for a stovetop-safe teapot and you don't use it to boil the water! Fortunately, the Amazon listing does say it's stovetop safe so I ordered one. I'm sorry I did not see your link here before I bought it at Amazon!

I would guess that if you just wanted one cup, and not a pot, you could take the infuser basket and place it directly in your cup, and pour your water into the cup. That's what I do with my teapot.

Where do you buy your cinnamon loose leaf tea?

    • @EricLearnstoCook

She got this at Wegmans. They have a section on loose teas (most are not herbal). Most of our supermarkets don't carry loose tea, but I'd think Whole Foods probably would. Thank you for watching and for asking.

It’s a really deep topic plastics in our environment. Especially in things we eat. I cringe when people put plastics in the microwave! Even if they are bpa free it’s the precursor to all kinds of cancers. Yet people do it every day. I have never heard this about tea and their bags. This is new thank you! Recently I’ve been reading about arsenic in our rice juice etc. I wonder if anything is actually healthy any more. Thanks for this video and another wake up call

As someone who has been drinking green tea for years...Oolong is one of the best tea's you could ever drink. It must be steeped in hot water for between 10 & 20 minutes.. depending on the strength you like. And you never ever put milk or sugar in it.
