Owen Pitcher wow, someone got triggered over a tame and funny comment, I have to ask you, due to toe obvious stupidity of course, as a normal and decent human being, I’ve never been in your shoes. So my question is: how often do you forget to breathe?
Bikes are just as entitled to be on the road as cars are, cars don't OWN the roads! lol unless its a motorway of course . Historically, bikes have been around longer than cars, if you really want to go there, its cars that have come along since, so should respect the presence of something that was around before them, just like any decent road user respects horses and so forth, its all about basic respect, and at least bikes are not polluting the atmosphere, damaging the roads or creating noise. In the interests of fairness though, i will say that bikes have to and should obey the same rules of the road as everyone else, such as stopping at red lights etc.

But I’ll do the Manhattan bridge any day where the lane is literally yours and, where is has one side for pedestrians and the other side for cyclists.
GXD NYC bike lanes are pretty much taken over by walking people until there is a cyclist right in front of them. I know this since I live here in the NYC
I'm not sure where you live Michael but in the US, cyclists can be on the road as cars can. You took drivers ed correct? The road is for both the cyclists and vehicles.
You can see hundreds if not thousands of pedestrians on the bridge, and maybe 10 cyclists. It's not exactly surprising that pedestrians will expand out of their lane into the bike lane. Here in Seattle though, where cyclists go by every few seconds, nobody walks/stands in the bike lane because you'll get clobbered.
having lived in new york most of my childhood, usually theres tons more bikes and people still don't care about bike lanes. I assume the time & weather affected the amount of bikes on the bridge, however it's been some years since I've gone back to NYC
I have absolutely no issue with people using the full width or the road, they abviouly are more in need of it than the number of cyclists at that traffic situation, BUT if a cyclist asks for his lane they step off it without any issues - if that happens I see absolutely no reason to make any problem about it.
I can definitely understand being annoyed when a lot of pedestrians don't even realize they should move, but I think again that comes down to the fact there are few cyclists around - awareness is a lot easier when you get reminded every few seconds.
Im gonna sound stupid, but I've walked and biked with bose qc35 ii, the best in the noise cancelling, with noise cancelling on, and I have yet to die. The key is to be extra alert on surrounding, using sight and trying to hear. But for the most part you will still hear everything, just less, assuming you dont have music above 50%. You don't have to imagine it anymore :D
+Ibra Yes man, at the end of the day its your choice if you wanna be able to hear or not, but there are people, that just signed up for a normal job like a train driver and then end up having to live with the "guilt" of basically killing some dumb girl that thought she was invincible crossing the tracks without hearing a train coming that for example happened over here in my city a year ago and i think he actually killed himself or tried to, out of guilt (don't quote me on that i didn't look up the news from back then and to be honest i feel bad about the poor dude that has to live with that not for that dumbass that killed herself +Black Hood um deaf people are deaf all the time. they don't constantly hear and then suddenly shut off their ears for an hour or so. they are much more used to only using their other senses than people that just flatout refuse to keep at least one ear free when going to school or work
crocodileguy - ...Or so several onlookers thought. Instead Russian Boom box Bike man emerged several hours later, still alive, as it turns out Russians can breathe in vodka indefinitely.
Bike lanes need better markings to deter ignorant pedestrians. In addition to marking it as a bike lane it would be good if there were markings stating " No pedestrians allowed " in the form of a person walking ,with a circle around the person and a red diagonal slash through the circle.
Sirios Star Have a physical barrier between the bike land the pedestrian lane and at either end have bloody big notices telling the pedestrians not to use the bike lane.
there isnt enough room to place a barrier between. look how narrow the bike lane is in the first place. its about as wide as a single direction lane, but is for traffic going both directions
Teeon Highhill The barrier doesn't need to be as wide as the line painted on the bridge, as long as there is a physical divide between the two together with the warnings at either end it could work.
There are a dozen videos of people complaining about this. Why can't they put a small physical barrier up? Just enough to remind people to stay on their side? I suppose they'd just step over it
the lanes aren't big enough for the cyclist. its really bad design they prolly should've separated one side of bridge pedestrian the other cyclist but the didn't.
Plot Twist: He/She writes their comments in bold because they can't find witty enough jokes to attract attention using a regular font. This one's a actually a tragedy.
I don't know how to feel about those parents pushing the baby's pushchair in the bike lane. I get that they wouldn't get very far very quickly if using the pedestrian side as it's so densely populated, but one hit to the pushchair from an oncoming cyclists and that baby could be dead. Seems like a horrible bridge in general.
Lol I love how you changed your argument from feeling ambiguous about the adults parenting skills to believing the bridge is horrible because adults don't have the common sense to not walk in a bike lane.
Bithor Gaming I believe it's a horrible bridge due to it being narrow, well populated, and has obstructions in the form of metal bollards/pillars/lampposts in and out of the bike lane that have to be avoided. I also said that there was an element of risk in using the bike lane for pushchairs, but acknowledged the potential reasons for doing so. I didn't change any 'argument'; the two points coexist. I'm saying that both the bridge and actions are questionable; rather than just blaming lack of common sense.
MooseAF still the people in the lane didn’t move but that area was a tight fit so opposite bikes going towards each other are either going to have to wait or move to the walking side for a tiny bit. :)
Does this mean he made a world record on a bicycle??
6 лет назад+24
@Thelondonbadger the longest wheelie is measured on just 1 hour, and it was 16 miles. He probably could have done more but they measured distance covered over 1 hour
DJBlizzard74 I’m pretty sure I read something about someone crossing state borders down south for the longest wheelie record. I wish I could remember that facts but I know it was waaaay longer then this bridge
FruitJuice_ people do that in New Zealand, they attach stolen sirens from cop cars or stadiums and put them all over mountain bikes. then they connect the wires to a "popped" bluetooth speaker so they can play their shitty music through their shitty sirens on their shitty bikes. just search "NZ siren king"
That's just the thing. People will complain about cyclists or some cyclists being 'entitled' for space designated SPECIFICALLY for cyclists when peds regularly break the law of 'obstructing traffic' walking moronically for no reasonable cause in a bikeway whether as part of the road or other. Yes, fair enough if a cyclist crosses on a red light with heavy cross traffic -- I'd consider that entitlement and reckless. However, allowing cyclists to simply go STRAIGHT on a road with a space specifically for cyclists with no necessary obstructions isn't entitlement on the cyclist's part at all! Motorists only regularly have to deal with peds at intersections. Cyclists on the other hand must deal with peds nearly every few feet mid-block in addition to intersections and in addition to motorists who have deeply ingrained car culture in their heads.
Around here where bike lanes are just painted on the road, you get joggers/runners that like the road better(there's a sidewalk), and at intersections those going right block off the bike lane entirely.
Well hmm, he's only using one wheel so that makes him a uni-cycle not a bi-cycle and thus he shouldn't be in the bi-cycle lane! (ok, ok...i'll get my coat :) )
I have had a problem here with Joggers(only VERY occasionally and very few, most are cool people) in Ireland taking up Cycling Lanes...(LOOONG story upcoming, if you can't read over 9000 then don't try) One Man attempted to push me over recently in a Cycling lane with a fully marked(and recently demarcated) Jogging/walking lane RIGHT BESIDE IT,guy genuinely grabbed my handlebars, and then my shoulder and tried to upend me...didn't end well for him, I am a lifelong Student in a few Martial Arts, with lots of Security work under my belt, and as it was, in the area we were with the chance of me going over the side of the Bridge we were on into traffic on a Major road 20+ feet below I felt justified to grab his ear and keep ahold of it while I dismounted, then took a knee and pointed out the HUGE "cyclists only" road markings, AND the "Walking/Jogging" lane RIGHT beside it, He was very abusive and struggled to hit me for the first 10 seconds or so til I calmly told him how little pressure it takes for an ear grip to go horribly wrong (for him).. When we got down low I released his ear and just gently grabbed behind his elbow... At that stage (and all morning really) I had a visible Camera recording the the litany of abuse and threats he was making. A small group composed of 50/50 cyclists and Walkers/Runners were all video-ing the event by the time I finished speaking to him about common courtesy, clearly marked lanes, bullying etc. It turned out the Man in question had quite a reputation for bullying people on that corner(especially Children) which he considered "HIS CORNER" and important for his lap times...(he apparently just jogged around and back in that area looking for a victim, his glasses must have been fogged up that morning :P ) After some discussion we as a group decided to call the Gardai who happened to have a Garda Cyclist around the area who had a whole LITANY of complaints against this surly and foul mouthed individual, he then UPPED the Ante by abusing the Bean Garda( a discontinued way of calling a Woman in Uniform a "Female cop" and something he made sound dirty) in terms that would make a Sailor blush,he then went to grab the Gard by the shoulder and before any of us could intervene and before he knew it - he was face-down on his favourite bridge with a knee in his back and cuffs getting secured before he could blink(nor any of us!) A Garda van was on the way in a jiffy and while we waited I spoke to the Gard about the chances of him getting charged(very high),the chances of him getting a short sentence or NO sentence due to his behavior(I hate to sound like a "Mary Sue" but I also have some experience in the Forensic Psychology area) and the Gard replied firmly that he was capable of running a business etc so would not wriggle out on a Psych Technicality, I wonder now if I had just wheelied into his chin as he went to grab me would I have saved a lot of trouble? For those that lasted this long, take an internet, and thank you the Wheelie Gent and Bicycling Mag for the clip and PS...are you looking for a European Writer?
Thanks for the reply Soviet Duck, the video is part of an investigation at the moment so I can't release it yet, however it will be available in a while, and I have this page bookmarked, so I will do so then, Happy Paladining!
@Average Joesson the man literally tried to throw them off their bike while they were on the bike lane if someone did that to you would you let them do it? Your answer is most likely no and if it is why are you criticizing this person for doing something about the situation that you would have done aswell? If your answer was yes then your just weird to let someone have a go at you. Sorry for the long comment just wanted my point to get through clearly.
Glad I got to see this. Reminded me of my first and only time I walked the Brooklyn Bridge back in 97. I was Going downhill toward Brooklyn being a oblivious tourist when I heard a voice similar to this (yes I had strayed into the bike lane) and looked around to see some dude on a BMX with one foot on his handlebars and one on his seat standing up just rolling down the hill like he was riding a skateboard not a bike. Is this a normal type of thing on this bridge?
Yeah there was only about on 10th the amount of people as this guy had to deal with though. I was actually the muppet in the bike lane and he just went around me.
To be fair the person he was talking to was blocking the bike lane to the people behind him. This shows how dangerous it is for people to be in the bike lane because sometimes you can’t see the other bikes, and when they go around the person they can hit someone else.
Just Incredible - Not really. I’m saying I relate to cyclists who find the general public to be frustrating. I find cyclists frustrating. If you live in London you’ll understand what I mean.

Bikes are considered vehicles, don't walk down the street and don't walk down a dedicated bike lane. Also don't walk as a group side by side.
This is why the netherlands is so nice, the bike lanes are actually bike lanes and not extra pedestrian lanes

Pedestrians when they see a bike on the bike lane: "Ayo wtf"

Jim Brown
Gotta disagree pal, he's intentionally "driving" to put others at risk, including other cyclists, guys an asshole
Keith Deegan the others are assholes for being in the wrong lane. They put him in more danger than he is putting on himself
but he is on the right he is staying in the bike lane and the pedestrians are walking in the bike lane
Jim Brown YO YO !
I'm not sure where you live Michael but in the US, cyclists can be on the road as cars can. You took drivers ed correct? The road is for both the cyclists and vehicles.

Plot twist : he just holding front wheel and yelling at people while walking ...
No! It's not suprising that there are only 10 cyclists, because they hate yelling at pedestrians...
American behavior and customs are different from the west to east coast.
3:05 pedestrians take back the bike lane
Wanderlust89 and get hit by the cyclist the people walking in the bike lane are just a target no biggie

The key is to be extra alert on surrounding, using sight and trying to hear. But for the most part you will still hear everything, just less, assuming you dont have music above 50%.
You don't have to imagine it anymore :D
@@derdox6720 um deaf people handle it pretty well i think so having noise canceling head phones aren't going to be the reason they die....
+Ibra Yes man, at the end of the day its your choice if you wanna be able to hear or not, but there are people, that just signed up for a normal job like a train driver and then end up having to live with the "guilt" of basically killing some dumb girl that thought she was invincible crossing the tracks without hearing a train coming
that for example happened over here in my city a year ago and i think he actually killed himself or tried to, out of guilt (don't quote me on that i didn't look up the news from back then
and to be honest i feel bad about the poor dude that has to live with that not for that dumbass that killed herself
+Black Hood um deaf people are deaf all the time. they don't constantly hear and then suddenly shut off their ears for an hour or so. they are much more used to only using their other senses than people that just flatout refuse to keep at least one ear free when going to school or work

Bike lanes need better markings to deter ignorant pedestrians. In addition to marking it as a bike lane it would be good if there were markings stating " No pedestrians allowed " in the form of a person walking ,with a circle around the person and a red diagonal slash through the circle.
Sirios Star they do put people youst dont follow rules
Sirios Star Have a physical barrier between the bike land the pedestrian lane and at either end have bloody big notices telling the pedestrians not to use the bike lane.
there isnt enough room to place a barrier between. look how narrow the bike lane is in the first place. its about as wide as a single direction lane, but is for traffic going both directions
Teeon Highhill The barrier doesn't need to be as wide as the line painted on the bridge, as long as there is a physical divide between the two together with the warnings at either end it could work.
Just use a chain as a divider.. like they do at amusement parks to divide the lines of people up.
It's like a bad 70's cop show.
There are a dozen videos of people complaining about this. Why can't they put a small physical barrier up? Just enough to remind people to stay on their side? I suppose they'd just step over it
the lanes aren't big enough for the cyclist. its really bad design they prolly should've separated one side of bridge pedestrian the other cyclist but the didn't.
because murica
Because americans have no brain
You cannot demand that people become intelligent. Too many signs confuse them too. Best thing is to cycle around them to be honest.

NYC had the best garbage smell and disregard for basic common courtesy I'd ever seen when I visited last year!
On the flip side notice how narrow walking lane is. That's the problem.
Imerence narrow?brother its better than getting hit by a cycle in cycle lane and crying and yell “ill sue you “
well the whole area is poorly made, it should be wider
The bike lane is just as narrow.
They are both the same width but the pedestrians out number the cyclists about 1000:1 by the looks of it so the cycle lane is too wide
I am ready to bet that even if the walking lane had been broad enough, there would still be some people walking in the bike lane.
The whole city is horrible, so no surprise that one of it's bridges is such.
Legion it’s not somewhere I’ll be visiting
walking baby in the rain on a busy bridge
I'd pick a park or something or maybe move somewhere else
Lol I love how you changed your argument from feeling ambiguous about the adults parenting skills to believing the bridge is horrible because adults don't have the common sense to not walk in a bike lane.
Bithor Gaming
I believe it's a horrible bridge due to it being narrow, well populated, and has obstructions in the form of metal bollards/pillars/lampposts in and out of the bike lane that have to be avoided. I also said that there was an element of risk in using the bike lane for pushchairs, but acknowledged the potential reasons for doing so. I didn't change any 'argument'; the two points coexist. I'm saying that both the bridge and actions are questionable; rather than just blaming lack of common sense.
I just love the background music and his tone of voice makes it look so video game like
Except he gets pushed out of the bike lane at 2:10
MooseAF by another bike
Plastic Warfare you clearly missed the people right in front of that other bike that didn't move
MooseAF I can see why he got pushed out the path is hella small
MooseAF still the people in the lane didn’t move but that area was a tight fit so opposite bikes going towards each other are either going to have to wait or move to the walking side for a tiny bit. :)
he's trying aight
Does this mean he made a world record on a bicycle??

Can't believe how frustrated I am just watching it. I come across the odd walker in the cycle lane and that's enough!
Haha, here in the Netherlands, we don't have this problem, more bikes than people, and more chance of getting ran over.
Never Lucky m8 funny thing about this: In my hometown in Germany the bike lanes are full of Dutch pedestrians during Christmas time

People are always walking on the bike lane on that bridge. Pisses me off
Those 5.1 k dislike are from those people who walks on bicycle lane
I have had a problem here with Joggers(only VERY occasionally and very few, most are cool people) in Ireland taking up Cycling Lanes...(LOOONG story upcoming, if you can't read over 9000 then don't try)
One Man attempted to push me over recently in a Cycling lane with a fully marked(and recently demarcated) Jogging/walking lane RIGHT BESIDE IT,guy genuinely grabbed my handlebars, and then my shoulder and tried to upend me...didn't end well for him, I am a lifelong Student in a few Martial Arts, with lots of Security work under my belt,
and as it was, in the area we were with the chance of me going over the side of the Bridge we were on into traffic on a Major road 20+ feet below I felt justified to grab his ear and keep ahold of it while I dismounted, then took a knee and pointed out the HUGE "cyclists only" road markings, AND the "Walking/Jogging" lane RIGHT beside it,
He was very abusive and struggled to hit me for the first 10 seconds or so til I calmly told him how little pressure it takes for an ear grip to go horribly wrong (for him)..
It turned out the Man in question had quite a reputation for bullying people on that corner(especially Children) which he considered "HIS CORNER" and important for his lap times...(he apparently just jogged around and back in that area looking for a victim, his glasses must have been fogged up that morning :P )
After some discussion we as a group decided to call the Gardai who happened to have a Garda Cyclist around the area who had a whole LITANY of complaints against this surly and foul mouthed individual, he then UPPED the Ante by abusing the Bean Garda( a discontinued way of calling a Woman in Uniform a "Female cop" and something he made sound dirty) in terms that would make a Sailor blush,he then went to grab the Gard by the shoulder and before any of us could intervene and before he knew it - he was face-down on his favourite bridge with a knee in his back and cuffs getting secured before he could blink(nor any of us!)
A Garda van was on the way in a jiffy and while we waited I spoke to the Gard about the chances of him getting charged(very high),the chances of him getting a short sentence or NO sentence due to his behavior(I hate to sound like a "Mary Sue" but I also have some experience in the Forensic Psychology area) and the Gard replied firmly that he was capable of running a business etc so would not wriggle out on a Psych Technicality,
I wonder now if I had just wheelied into his chin as he went to grab me would I have saved a lot of trouble?
For those that lasted this long, take an internet, and thank you the Wheelie Gent and Bicycling Mag for the clip and PS...are you looking for a European Writer?
