The one in the white coat does the bass. When he is singing a solo part, Scott (the tall blond in the middle) does the bass. The one stomping and clapping is Kevin, the beatboxer (he eats drum kits for breakfast) and plays a mean cello.
@@LeeCarlson And plays the cello like nobody's business. And plays the sax beautifully. And has a gorgeous falsetto. I could go on and on but he's a musical genius!

They give can you goosebumps and make you cry. They are unbelievably amazing. Give "imagine" a listen too. Not only an amazing rendition of the song but an amazing message.
The black guy on the far right is Kevin Olusola. As far as I can tell, he's the best beatboxer on the planet. *How* does he do it, you ask? I haven't the foggiest. There's a theory that he eats drum kits for breakfast, but even that doesn't seem to explain it. Kevin also has a beautiful voice, plays both cello and saxophone, and, oh yes, beatboxes while playing the cello. He calls it celloboxing. I don't believe he's figured out how to beatbox while playing the saxophone, but I wouldn't put it past him. The man is brilliant. He graduated from Yale pre-med before he decided to join Pentatonix instead of becoming a doctor, and he speaks five languages, including Mandarin.
You're going to want to watch their Daft Punk mash-up relatively soon in your dive into the rabbit hole. Not only did it win them a Grammy, the close-ups on their faces really lets you see Kevin and Avi doing their things. Helps make it believable they do these unbelievable things so you can stop questioning whether it's real 😆
Avi, the original bass singer, left for personal reasons in 2017 (he was dealing with bouts of anxiety due to the group's hectic touring and recording schedules, and his mother had just gotten diagnosed with cancer...fortunately she has recovered). Avi has since gone on to an amazing solo career. Matt...white jacket...was brought in to replace him in early 2018. Matt was an actual Pentaholic, and becoming a member was his dream come true, and he's been a fantastic addition to the group. I know you just reacted to another cover of Bohemian Rhapsody. Well...the Pentatonix version blows that version away!! You also need to check out their Daft Punk medley. Recorded and shot on a shoestring budget before they got their current record deal, it ended up winning them their first Grammy and became their first world-wide hit. Both of these are completely mind-blowing!
Videos to check out Daft Punk, Bohemian Rhapsody, Mary Did You Know, Imagine, Can You Feel The Love Tonight, 90's Dance Medley and AHA Singapore Live at the Star Vista
Welcome to the Pentatonix rabbit hole - literally found your channel today and it's been fun watching you fall into their spell! If you want to cry while listening to 5 people make music only with their voices, they also cover: 1. "Imagine" by the Beatles 2. "Say Something" by A Great Big World 3. "Mary Did You Know" and "Drummer Boy" (Xmas covers) If you want to jam out to club mixes by the same 5 voices listen to their medleys: 1. Daft Punk 2. Evolution of Rihanna 3. Evolution of Beyonce 4. Really any of their Evolution medleys.
Avi Kaplan (bass) left the group for personal reasons. He has been doing some solo stuff lately, and was a guest singer with the group Home Free on their cover of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire". If you need another rabbit hole to jump into you should definitely check that one out also.
The smile on your face speaks volumes. I've been an avid Pentatonix fan for a long time and it brings me great joy when people "discover" them. Your reactions are wonderful!
I love watching your reactions because in them I see the stupid grin, face falling apart and brain explosions that show me exactly what my first reaction to this magic was, 3 years ago. When it was finished, I could only gasp a 'Holy s__t', and sit there. By a fortunate mistake, this was my introduction to Pentatonix, and they immediately had me body and soul. Also, it's my personal 'gold standard' for Kirstin's voice and presence. WOW! keep it coming: you bring it ALL back!
I went down the Pentatonix rabbit hole 10 years ago and I have never, ever wanted to leave! Thank you for your super reaction and I know the 90's Dance Medley is going knock your socks off!
Anything before Fall of 2017 will be Avi Kaplan (who left for family reasons which he couldn't handle with their hectic tour schedule -- on good terms). From Christmas 2017 through the present, it's Matt Sallee doing the bass. Just a note: whenever the bass is singing lead, Scott (the tall blond fellow) covers the bass. Mitch (second singer with the mullet) and Kirstie (the lady, obviously) change their looks often -- hair color, clothing styles, hair cuts (or wigs), and weight. Mitch was much heavier from late 2012 to mid 2013. Then, in 2015-2016 he was really thin. However, his voice has always been a true gift from God.
One that shows Kevins skills is their cover of Radioactive by Imagine Dragons, it includes Lindsey Stirling (guest Violin and one more rabbit hole) and Kevin on the Cello as well as his beat boxing
Papaoutai is a REALLY good one too that features Lindsay Sterling and actually is one of my favorites even tho when you translate the lyrics it's kinda depressing
Daft punk and bohemian rhapsody next. 😁 their live version of hallelujah sounds pretty much exactly like the recorded version which is crazy that they can be that perfect. It’s actually amazing. Their new 90s dance remix is awesome too.
The simple answer to your question "how?" Is a badass beat box .... and well really, the answer is 5 absolutely gifted beautiful people. I thank God every day for planning thier fate and to share this with the world.

May I suggest “Daft Punk”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, and “Mary Did You Know?” Really any song from this group will be Golden. There is also a good video of all the songs they did on The Sing Off. If you love A Capella, you should also explore the group Home Free. They won the Sing Off the year after Pentatonix won it. Also, Kevin, the beatboxer, is extremely talented and smart. You should learn more about him. He plays the cello. There is a video of him playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time.
PTX version of “Mary Did You Know” always pulls my heart from my chest and thrashes it against my feelings of worthlessness and self-pity, then returning it into my soul renewed. Tears... every time.
Scott, Mitch, and Kirstin went to high school together in Arlington, TX. Kevin, fluent in Mandarin, went to Yale for pre-med before changing to music. Check out his (Kevin Olusola)KOver of Down for a true jaw dropping experience done in real time!!!

Yes, be aware that Mitch have never left the group. It would be easy to think they are different people at times because they change so much 😀.
