I have always wanted to do an open water shark dive and we finally decided today was the day.

We looked up a few companies that offered open water dives one ocean diving and hawaii adventure diving . We ended up going with hawaii adventure diving. When you think of things to do in oahu hawaii or the top things to do north shore hawaii cage free shark dive is last on the list. We picked the first tour of the day at 730 am. just remember conditions are usually better in the morning less wind means calmer water not always but usually. There were 5 people in our group I was the only one with my own snorkel gear . If you are coming to hawaii I recommend getting your own snorkel gear. the boat ride was short we went out about 3 miles from shore. they went over safety information and what to expect with sharks. The staff went over hawaii shark diving and how is started and what kind of sharks to expect.

When we reached the site i was first one in and right away saw the first shark he was 20feet down so it turned into free diving with sharks. dove right on top of him and it was amazing. I never thought i would be swimming with sharks in hawaii at least not on purpose. we went from one shark to three sharks in no time, and they started coming close and closer to the surface. At one point the shark came straight at me and i thought this is what hawaii shark encounter is all about. We had the most amazing safety diver she stepped in anytime the sharks got to close. At one point she stiff armed one of the sharks it was one of the craziest things i have ever seen. This is what I imagined an open water shark dive oahu would be like. Our safety diver stepped in a few times to redirect the sharks away from other swimmers. On our trip we saw Galapagos Sharks they range from 5-10 feet usually. Talking with the staff they mentioned they do get hammer heads and tiger sharks as well. We spent about an hour in the water snorkeling with sharks For anyone that isn't a strong swimmer they do set up a rope line that you can hang on to. This shark dive hawaii was amazing and i recommend it to anybody thinking of doing it. I never felt like i was in danger the water is always so peaceful and calming you get to swim with shark hawaii. The boat ride back the other members of the group where saying cant believe we went swimming with sharks oahu. This is definitely one of the experiences you will never forget .It was such an amazing experience i will come back to go diving with sharks oahu. I cant recommend hawaii adventure diving enough they were great next time might try ocean one diving and see the difference.

With One Ocean apparently everyone has to hold the line/rope, and you can only dive one at a time when they safety diver tells you to... This seems more free than that.. Would you recommend this over One Ocean?

I haven’t done it with one ocean .. but I would highly recommend hawaii adventure diving .. we had safety diver with us she was amazing and everyone is able to swim openly .. they have rope to hold if there is current or not good swimmer but other then that we all stayed pretty close to each other and it was amazing. It’s crazy experience you really can’t go wrong with either one hawaii adventure was cheaper
