In 1982 I worked at Musicland next to the arcade. Across from us was a Tom McAn shoe store. Across the road was Mid Cities Mall. I worked there at a disco place called The Back 40. Every summer in the 60s and 70s the parking lot had a carnival with rides and games. Thanks for the video 😊 brings back alot of memories for me!
Yonkers last day was yesterday. Went pass there early this morning (4/30) and there were about 5 cars parked at the side entrance but by afternoon there was none. Walked into the mall and Younkers is completely dark .The bridal shop is closed with a note saying they are being evicted for non payment.
The mall was closed shortly after Younkers closed.Last month the Mall was broken into and INCREDIBLE amount of damage done.About 2 weeks ago, the Mall was boarded up and is now a "Shuttered" mall. The city is giving the owner into Nov.16 to raze the mall.Remains to be seen.......

I died at your pronunciation of Prange's lol :-P Anyway I remember that mall being kinda cool. There used to be an ice cream parlor in there and my mom took me there as child. During Christmas, there was always this really neat display that spanned almost the entire length of that mall. Kinda sad that it is nothing now....
Pronunciation is "Prangee-Way". I spent countless hours here when I was young in the 80's. There was an arcade called Aladdin's Castle, a Deb store, ice cream...
well, the lakeshore mall is completely dead now you can still get inside because the arcade is still inside but I've never seen it open and my friend got in the younkers from somewhere in the back, but we couldn't find a way into Prange way sadly but if you guys live around there you should check it out.
Update 5/22.. The Wizard's Kingdom has announced their last day open will be 5/27 according to their Facebook page, saying it was "not their choice". Evidently the mall owner is going to shutter the mall up. My impression is that Avada Hearing is being asked to leave also .The mall was opened in 1979
The B-Dalton was on the other side, on the right when you were looking at Prange Way.. You filmed all of the book shelves at 5:59. That was one of my favorite bookstores back in the mid 80's.
Mayor Justin Nickels has announced that he wants to see the mall demolished in the near future...he doesn't want a repeat of the former Lakeview Center Mall which became a terrible eyesore after the final tenant,J.C. Penny's closed. The former Lakeview Center has remained empty for almost three years despite all the "plans" the owner had for the vacant property.
I live in the town town where this mall is. My dad grew up when this mall was alive and he even remembers buying his Atari at Prangee Way on the far right of the store. This mall was doing decent seven years ago, with a collector's store, a barber shop, and a few other small stores and I attended several birthday parties at Wizard's Kingdom, which, along with Younkers, is the only thing keeping this place standing. But even Wizard's Kingdom is struggling, and they were selling their iconic wizard statues. I own one now. Due to this mall being on the northeast side of town, where businesses only get local attention, and more chain stores being built along the interstate, on the southwest side, I'd be surprised if it lasts ten more years.
I'm glad I got to wander through that mall last year, both by myself and with my wife. Back in the early 90's my parents and I would make a trip to this mall and to the other that was demolished. I frequented the comic shop that was here. And I gotta chime in- are you a Wisconsin native? I have never heard anyone call an H. C. Prange company "Pranj".
Younker's is in the process of closing their store at the mall,so it's the end of the line for this mall. All that will be left is The Wizard's Kingdom, Avadia Hearing, and a bridal store (that has such limited hours and days open that might as well be closed). Both The Wizard's Kingdom and Avadia have outside access ,so if they are going to be able to stay or have to move....Sad to see this happen seeing that both my Dad and I worked at the Mall from the mid 1980's until 2004 (my Dad died in 1993).
Thank you for the upload. I see someone had corrected the pronunciation. I also remember Prange way. It usually was near the Prange store. Don''t know if they had one of those in Manitowoc but we had one where I lived in 70's. Miss both of those stores.
The spot at 4:24 that you called "a youth gathering place" was a coffee shop that opened somewhere around 2010 or so and lasted less than a year. The spot was refurbished and updated for the shop. The mall's restrooms were also updated around that time. As you can see, the rest of the mall still has that 1979 look (when it opened).

Worked for Comcast for a bit and it was weird to run wire to that arcade or to that Younkers. The void in the ceiling is spooky. When you walked out on your left in the other vacant lot there was a lowly drive up ATM machine, I'd say it's been gone for about 4 years now. All this space and the city hasn't a clue what to do with it.
