Soooo many great memories at the North Avenue Drive-in in Chicago suburbs growing up. The family would bring pillows, blankets, and treats! I remember seeing The Shaggy Dog while sitting on the hood of the car. TFS

Grew up with the drive in in Stockton, CA. After I was married our small town of Ceres, CA had for a few more years with their drive in. Since hubby & I have retired and RV full time around the country, we've found a few to reminisce in while watching the newest movies! 🍿🍔🍕🍟🌭

With daylight savings time, more drive-ins offered double features to draw customers in. Family movies nights offered the comfort of young children wearing pj's and camping out in the back of the family station wagon when sleepy.

The reason they went to radio is because when the old wires started breaking underground it was far cheaper to go to radio.

What sucked about the hang on speakers is that you had to have at least half of your window up restricting air flow.

I remember going to the drive-in movies with Joanie. Those sure were Happy Days.
Oh wait, that wasn't me. That was Chachi.

Did anyone ever try and develop an indoor drive-in? I mean there must have been some huge hangers left over from WWII that would have fit hundreds of cars. that would have fixed both the night time and weather issues.

HELLO, YOU! The indoor drive-in would be particularly useful over there in UK, where good weather "can be tricky"... 🙄

In Rockford Illinois the property that once held a drive in movie now has the studios of a local tv station.

I remember going to the drive in when I was a kid in Phoenix. Then on the weekends they had a swap meet.

I'm wondering when the teens started hiding in the trunk of the car to get in free.
