Boy, what a cool video. What memories. When my wife and got married in 79, we stayed at one in Longboat Key, in Florida, it was 32.00 a night and it had the first indoor heated pool with a grass hut type bar and a nice food bar. I remember asking my wife what the sliced up meat was, cause it was so tasty. I have to ask her once in a while now, it was prime rib. It was replaced with a more modern looking one, don’t know when. Oh, I forgot to say how we ended up there. My bosses wife got us a room at some tennis resort, some room, it was more like a huge house, it was 80 per night. So the next day we drove down the road and ended up at the Holiday Inn. Thanks for the video.

This was really well done! I loved Holiday Inn as a kid and I appreciate the walk down memory lane. Narrator sounds like Patton Oswalt and did an excellent job.

A kids dream in the 1960's on a long cross country trip was to stay at a Holiday Inn with its pool,..and have a Putt Putt mini golf right next door.

The real-life hotel as depicted by the model at 2:52 exists in Downtown Akron, Ohio, but it hasn't been a Holiday Inn for many, many years. Other hotel chains occupied the building over the years, but now it is a vacant building. Though I do believe the parking deck below the hotel is still in use.
At 6:22 the helicopter is landing on the roof of the hotel, and the building you see behind the helicopter is The First National Bank Tower.

How about Holiday Inn Express locations...and the many IHOPs that are often located nearby. Awesome pieces/mini documentaries. Love them!!!

Mrs Wilson died at 84 before her husband who died at 90! Raising 5 kids while dad runs a chain of hotels must have been grueling.

Holiday Inn also had an all-nigyht network radio show called "Holiday Inn Nighttime", hosted by "Dolly Holiday". In the east, it was widely heard on WBT Charlotte, while in the west, KFBK, Sacramento had the honors, as well as airing on other stations.

"Holiday Inn Nighttime" may have been inspired by the Memphis radio station Kemmons Wilson owned with Col. Tom Parker, WHER, which had an all-female airstaff and was located in the first Holiday Inn.

EVERYONE says losing the "Great Sign" was the biggest mistake IHG ever made but in true British fashion they just kept doubling down 😢
