    The "tactical sharpening" argument is very funny, because in older MH games the map was split into small areas so if you really need to sharpen (heal or prepare some items) you could just run few meters into different area and replenish everything without the fear of monster chasing you. You also could do this in World, because there are plenty of areas that are not accessible to monsters. Sharpening on mount is less annoying and won't take you out of the combat, if you want a safe time window.

    • @OzmandisMandis
      @OzmandisMandis 26 дней назад +31

      That's exactly what I was thinking. I see sharpening on a mount as a straight upgrade from that. Given you can't mount or bail out during battles in some arenas, it's not making the game less tactical overall.

    • @khris1645
      @khris1645 25 дней назад +22

      Except that leaving an area in the middle of battle to recover was heavily cumbersome and outright discouraged by the game's mechanics, balancing and old area traversal.
      Hunters, on top of being generally slow, have a stamina penalty when running away from large monsters, and even without said penalty, the average Monster is very good at chasing you down. Old areas were often shaped and had their exits placed in such ways to make leaving them hard especially when in combat despite their smaller size. Fleeing to heal is the safer option in paper, but the average player would soon find it to be a waste of time and far more troublesome than it is worth, thus, engaging with methodical sharpening/healing.
      Comparing what was a suboptimal, super-desperate-emergency-scenario option to safely outrunning in circles all the monster's attacks is outright false.

      to be fair getting knocked down like that makes you invincible anyway, this is a way to just speed up combat by making you not have to wait through the downed animation, i don't think it's quite as worrying as people are making it out to be as it's slower than the wire fall

  • @euphoricganjanath5625
    @euphoricganjanath5625 25 дней назад +6

    Wirefall wasnt really as bad as people say, the CC was worse than people say.
    I dont think we should have that much mobility but at the same time, Risebreak monster AI handles our mobility a lot better than Worldbornes monster AI handles us....and we were slower. You actually have to move a lot more in Rise, than any other title because monster moves are no long stationary, there is flexibility where it matters. Tail swipes for example would mostly be from one side, now monsters will attack from the left and right, it makes combat feel more fluid. Monsters have more flexibility in their combos and are a lot more reaction to our movement, just like us the hunters, dont forget how much effort went into making each weapon more flexible and fluid with the combat.
    A trained hunter, is going to dodge, maneuver, or block anyways, but that doesnt mean that the effort isnt there to make monsters smarter, to combat Rises mobility.
    Its so funny that people cant let this go with Rise but they never talk about how terrible Worlds AI was lmao.
    I took a wild guess that 6th gen would further develop the fluidity of combat based on what Risebreak was doing, and the proof is in the pudding. Monsters movements and attacks, are crisp and clean. Rathalos flying in the first trailer was very smooth, so outside of combat, they are really going out of their way to make monsters feel more natural, like real animals.
    WILDS is going to be a 100/10 game
    Rata, I am amazed you didnt make a joke concern about the beehives disappearing off of the trees, what are we going to do if we can gather important items and healing items???

    @wolfair 26 дней назад +73

    some legitimate concerns there, but also a bit too dramatic.
    mount rescue looked more like a Palico rescue, but more dynamic, more adapted to their new bigger world and possibly bigger monster encounters.
    sharpening and healing while mounted in combat didn't need to return from Rise, this I wholeheartedly agree.
    we don't know anything about Focus mode to get too worried - I think we saw an example of Focus mode when hunter hit that new big monster with a GS and then proceeded to run towards it. it looked really nice. but we need to see a full breakdown of this mechanic.
    Palico talking is definitely a double-edged sword. lest hope they will allow us to reduce the amount of dialog during missions in settings or something like that.

      Every MH game, on top of learning from past games, has also had critical flaws that bog the experience down. I respect their commitment to experimentation, but we never get a "normal" MH game that just seeks to improve on the formula.
      3U had terrible water combat for half the game, and then it's scrapped in the next game. 4U had horrible jumping mechanics, which got fixed in Generations, but Generations was a crazy anniversary game. World changed basically everything (a lot for the worse), and some of that was fixed in Rise, but Rise was definitely a weird MH game.

      So even though the series generally keeps improving, it's more of a "two steps forward, one step back" kind of thing. And it's fair for people to complain about something that they think could be that one step back.

There is not even a meta or an efficient way of playing sunbreak as level 300 investigations makes meta obsolete. A 5% increase in damage isnt gonna make a difference when the HP pools are high and monsters rarely stay still. Unless you are a speedrunner with a targeted run, none of it matters. You can run both modes of hammer with physical, status and elemental hammers and damage loss is too insignificant. Add to the fact that you have a counter and with good wirebug build have access to high damage moves, there is no downside to playing hammer. It was never the most DPS in any MH game anyway and it's stun and exhaust capabilities are still there.

    My thoughts about each point:
    -The wire fall thing seems like it isn’t very strong like you said, and I think it links the combat to the mount in an interesting way so I’m excited for it, all assuming it wasn’t the Hunter calling for it the moment before they got hit and getting picked up while they happened to be down.
    - Sharpening is mostly done outside of combat, and rarely does it decide the outcome of an encounter if you fail to do it at the proper time in combat. It does make you consider your build, but if I ever need to sharpen in the middle of combat, I usually run away first unless I know the monster’s moveset. It’s an immersive, yet tedious animation I’d rather be able to see while controlling my character on the back of my mount.
    - Focus Mode, I initially saw it as an improved target lock from World, but when they said you can use additional attacks, I became worried as well. If this is the main avenue for new moves, I’m optimistic, though. They understand the appeal of the combat, and wouldn’t change it so drastically as to introduce a lock on system out of nowhere. That’s not fitting the immersive camerawork I’m expecting from Wilds. It seems like a baked in clutch claw, which also pin pointed monster parts. This looks more interesting.
    - Palico voice acting is so weird. I’m willing to hear it out, as long as it isn’t too annoying and you have the option to turn it off outside of cutscenes.

This building into what is called the Wound System, an evolved form of the Clutch Claw Wound from World where by consecutively attacking a Monster on the same spot/part, the Monster becomes more susceptible to damage on said spot/part.

Apparently there was an interview about it in a Japanese-only magazine that might clear up some stuff: The "weak points" are part of a new mechanic similar to clutch-claw tenderizing that are caused by you repeatedly attacking the same spot until it's wounded, the wounded parts are highlighted in focus mode by red scoutflies and that's when you can do the big attacks on them.

In-game however, their tiger masks are literally just a tiger head, and they screech tiger noises, even though canonically their speaking a human language.
      I think its very likely that the MH Language Setting will also make the meows return. But will you be able to choose one of the available languages whilst also toggling the meow? We know why the cats have made cat noises until now, and it's the same reason why hunters spoke gibberish until recently: because of developmental limitations.
      Hypothetically, let's say that the cats and hunters DO speak different languages. The hunters would speak hunter-ese, and the cats speak in meows.
