- Hello family, welcome to another episode with Uv! Right from the very first day I was asked if I would love to come to Cape Verde, I had to start learning Portuguese cause I was told it was the official language spoken here in Cape Verde. So in this video, I shared with you all my progress so far in learning not just Portuguese, but Cape Verdean Creole as well.
I know I made a lot of mistakes but I am still learning and open to any corrections 😁

This is very impressive. How long did this take you to get to this level? You can speak very freely. I was studying Spanish using Duolingo. It's a really nice app, but you need to practice it in real environment. I can see that you have had a lot of time to practice it :) Really good job

Yes spanish & Portugal are very similar bcuz they are sisters languages, they both comes from LATIN, their's 5 romance languages that comes/evolved from LATIN, they are Portuguese,Spanish, Italian, French & Romanian....all 5 are very similar....cape verdean kriolu comes/evolved from portuguese with a few African words, 95% portuguese & 5 africans word's.....cape verdean Kriolu too is very similar to the 5 romance languages, it's super easy for a cape verdean to learn those 5 romance languages, specially portuguese....also it would be easy for a CV to learn LATIN

Many of the Portuguese speaking countries are in Africa but portuguese language school are scarce.
Hello. Thanks for watching my video 😊 I am aware that there is a Portuguese school here in Cidadella, but not sure if it is just for learning the language. Most people learn Portuguese with private tutors here.

Brazilian is fine, you will be understood very easily.
Brazilian is good, but European Portuguese will do you one better.

I think one of the reasons Kriolu is so easy is because it does not have tenses like other languages. Also having some Spanish under my belt is helping me to understand a lot because Spanish and Portuguese are in the same language family.
That is absolutely correct. Spanish will definitely help you understand Kriolu and Portuguese better

The creol sounds like papiamentu
Papiamentu and CV kriolu are similar because they were both created in the Guinea Bissau region of Africa. Africans were brought to the ABC Islands and the CV Islands by the Portuguese during the slave trade. This Kriolu/Papiamentu was a mixture of African dialects/languages and archaic Portuguese. This is how those groups of people communicated with each other. In the case of Papiamentu after the ABC were colonized by the Dutch, the language further evolved to include some Dutch words. So us Cape Verdeans are the cousins of the people of the ABC Islands in the carribean. Deep history. Theirs a couple of artists from Curaçao and Cape Verde who did a song and video behind it together. It's cool.
