I’m Cape Verdean born in the US. I grew up in Florida not around a lot of other CV people so I wasn’t able to practice speaking as much and lost most of it now that I’m an adult. Your videos are going to help me get the confidence to start speaking it again. Thank you!

My understanding is that enslaved African CV's were taken by Portuguese to Curacao and other islands. Check out Frank Martinus Arion, a linguist who researched and wrote about this subject.

I am Cape Verdean. My Mom and Dad are both Cape Verdean. My Grandmother and Grandfather came to the US from the Island of Brava. My Grandma spoke broken english. My parents spoke to us in English, so I didn't learn to speak the language fluently. Thanks for the video.

It's so nice to hear the São Vicente creole again. I lived in Mindelo when I was 9 (40 years ago) for few years and learned and spoke creole, but unfortunately I have forgotten almost all of it.

I can understand it, but it's difficult for me to form sentences. I took portuguese in both high school and as a gen ed in college but I would really love to learn and embrace a lingua de cabo verde

That's so nice and sweet you're trying to learn it because of your girlfriend! :) This is Criolo from São Vicente Island. Our Criolo is lots of different languages mixed , mostly broken down Portuguese tho.
