- GRASSINGTON | Full Village Tour of Grassington North Yorkshire, plus we take a look at the All Creatures Great And Small Filming Locations here!
Also watch our tour of Pateley Bridge 👉 • PATELEY BRIDGE | Tour ...
We take a walk around Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales. This beautiful village is situated close to Skipton, Ripon and Harrogate and has so much to offer and so much to see!
Grassington is also where the filming locations for the new version of All Creatures Great and Small are, and you can see them in this video as we take a look around the village.
We start our tour having parked our car in the car park at the Grassington National Park Centre just a two minute walk from the main part of the village.
Walking along Hebden Road we arrive the start of the video at the start of Main Street. Here we start our walk uphill towards The Square, passing the Mad About Mountains shop, The Smithy and Coffee Eco (which serves excellent Carrot Cake!)
As we arrive in the historic market square of Grassington we see the Wine Shop next to the village Post Office and Robert Bunney clothes shop, before taking a look at the restored old pump in The Square.
Further up we see The Rustic Rabbit and Walkers Bakers and Chocolatiers next to The Devonshire pub which features as The Drovers Arms in All Creatures Great and Small, just one of many filming locations here.
Next up we see The Hatch and Helen Midgley before coming to The Retreat Tea Room and bistro, and Darrowby's Coffee Bar and Lounge and then arriving at Chocolace where you can find the biggest selection of liquorice sweets in the Yorkshire Dales!
We pass the Foresters Arms before arriving at the original smithy (or Smidy) which was once owned by the notorious Tom Lee in the year 1766. Tom Lee was executed and hung in York after the murder of Richard Petty.
We continue up Main Street to find The Cake House and Ashton House furnishings where you can find all kinds of crafts and art and hand carvings.
As we turn onto Garrs Lane we come to one of the filming locations for the Robert Downey Junior film Dolittle. The whole street became a scene and a filming location as the Dolittle scenes were shot here. Amazing to think a Robert Downey Junior movie was filmed here in Grassington!
We had back down into the village and pass the Grade II listed building of Grassington Congregational Church which sits opposite some beautiful village cottages.
As we pass the Black Horse Hotel and Corner House cafe we come to one of the most well known All Creatures Great And Small Filming Locations.
Grassington was turned into the fictional town of Darrowby that James Herriot wrote about in his books, and the place we are looking at was turned into Skeldale House which was the building the vets surgery was located
Just along from Skeldale House is another of the film locations for All Creatures Great And Small as the Stripey Badger Bookshop is turned into G.F Endleby Greengrocers shop!
Just down from there in The Square is Grassington Folk Museum which tells the story of the area from it's lead mining days to present day.
Next up is Grassington House. This is an upmarket restaurant and bar with hotel rooms above. Very nice and recommended!
As we reach the end of our Grassington Tour we find Bluebell Home and Gifts shop next to Cobblestones Cafe, another great place to eat and drink! We end our walk around Grassington outside Glad Rags Boutique shop.
Overall I would highly recommend a visit here. It really is one of the best villages in North Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Dales. So if you are wondering what are the things to do in Yorkshire head to Grassington for a great day out! They also have an annual Grassington1940's weekend which is a must see event.

When I was at school in the 1980's my school owned a 8 birth caravan in Grassington and every year towards the summer months they used to take 6 different children and 2 teachers over several weeks for holidays between Monday - Friday and we did amazing activity's ... hiking, caving, rock climbing etc what a beautiful place it is. I would love to go visit at some point maybe this year I finally will do.
Amazing! I had no idea such a place existed. Thank you. BTW, I do love All Creatures Great and Small.
Just watched this . Really like the real natural sounds and no music .you feel like your right there with you . Thank you . Charming .
Thank you very much!
I just discovered your youtube channel. Thank you for an amazing tour of Grassington. After reading all of the comments I realize that we too, like most Americans, are very partial to British programming. I am envious of all the cycling and hiking opportunities found in the English countryside, not to mention the thousands of years of rich history Your style of filming is very soothing. I cannot wait to view all of your videos and I will be sure to share them with family and friends. Thank you so much, from your newset subsriber.
Thank you so much - that's made my day to be honest!
I definitely have many viewers from across the pond - it looks like England/Britain is very popular with Americans!
Love this little town it is like a fairytale I live in Canada. But was born in Belfast northern Ireland just love these little villages
Just discovered Grassington has a 1940's weekend on September. I would love to see that!
If it's still on I'll be filming it for sure!
Just did a stop in Grassington, a few weeks ago. Loved it, but I’d like to go back now after watching this informative video. Thank you. I like your written comments in the video more than verbal ones. It allows me to hear the simple sounds of a small market town/village. Cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching
Beautiful place, im very lucky to be moving there in a few weeks time. Don’t forget to go a bit further to Threshfield lovely little village with a wonderful pub the old hall inn, a lovely homely pub with beautiful rooms to stay, a fantastic restaurant, dog friendly would highly recommend. X
Absolutely wonderful walking tour. Thank you! I want to visit
You should! It's a fantastic place - so much to enjoy there

Grassington, one of my very favourite Yorkshire Dales villages. I'm blessed to have been there countless times.
Such a lovely place!
Have you been to the Victorian market there?
Such a lovely place!
Have you been to the Victorian market there?
@@GimbalWalkTV I really wanted to go, but never got a chance. I've done loads of walks though, starting at or including Grassington and taking in Kettlewell, Appletreewick, Hebden, Burnsall. A walk around Kettlewell would make a lovely video. 💜
Like it that much we've booked to stay in the Devonshire . Lovely video thank you.
Amazing! You will have a lovely time!
Tell them we sent you!
@@GimbalWalkTV I will for sure.
A few years ago don't know if it happens every year, but I went on a coach Christmas weekend trip that involved going to Grassington. It is a Victorian market where all the village folks dress in typical Victorian wear. The cobbled market place has lots of stalls and lots of mulled wine stalls. Walk down that you did from church is a wonderful old fashioned fish and chip shop where I had my lunch.
Superb stuff Tony
Am looking up the Victorian market - definitely going to film that! Thank you!
@@GimbalWalkTV some pictures of it on my channel
@@GimbalWalkTV It's called the Dickensian weekend.
Just a couple of weeks ago I found out about the remake of All creatures great and small. We bought all currently available seasons on DVD, which is 1 to 4 and we love the series. Imo it's the best TV series I have ever seen. 🥰
Season 5 is currently being produced and is supposed to air in September 2024.
Anyway, I'm soaking in every bit of information I can find about this series and so I learned about Grassington and that's how I found your video. Well done. 👍🏻
Thanks so much!
Enjoyed filming this one - lovely place
Another Fabulous & fantastic video of GRASSINGTON | Full Tour of Grassington, Yorkshire All Creatures Great And Small Filming Locations!.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks Michael!
I could easily live in a Yorkshire village like Grassington…have been there…love the Yorkshire Dales…All Creatures Great & Small is a favourite program…originally from Oldham but lived in 🇨🇦most of my life but my heart is in England
Lovely place isn't it
Such a pretty lookking place, another village to visit when I am in Yorkshire again. This is exactly the type of place I like to visit.
It’s such a fab place / can’t recommend it enough!
Me too
A really lovely village love all creatures great and small I don't think I could live there must be very quiet in the winter
I would love some videos of Aberystwyth and the Rydol valley. Devil’s bridge is good.
First time here. This has taken my breath! I was scrolling "All Creatures" clips, because the 1st episode of 2nd season just aired on PBS-TV, in the USA. I am blessed to live in the Houston, Texas market of PBS, where many British programs are aired. There is a small village East of Peterborough that carries my family name, Whittlesey. I am besotted with everything UK! I will subscribe, so eager to see more! Great job, I felt I was walking with you. Love how you included the real-time audio! Your tour has given me major goosebumps!! Thank you, Thank you,Thank you!!! Happy New Year. All blessings to you .Yes, I would happily live there! Of course, I'm sure I am many years your senior; so at age 71, I know all the tourist traffic would be more excitement than I need. LOL!
Are you watching the new series made or the original one made in the late 70s early 80s?
The original I have to vote as the best but that is my personal choice.
I love going to Grassington. It will be well worth a visit in June 2022 when the Grassington Festival will be back on.
I love Grassington! Quintessential English village. Yes! I could live here. Beam me up! Would love the peace and quiet and yet enjoy the activity around the shops and cafes. I'd probably try to see if I could consign some of my paintings of English cottages in one of the shops and you'd definitely see me around town with my paints and easel!
I stumbled on to your channel, and have just subscribed. I Love Grassington. I'm from the state of Maryland in the USA. I have always been drawn to the U.K especially quaint little villages like this. So beautiful. I watch a lot of British programming and have learned about places like Grassington. Your channel is great! Just like being there!!
Greetings and welcome!
Thanks for the kind words!
If you like the villages check out these ones on my channel and tell me what you think of them:
Lacock
Lavenham
Staithes
Try those three 👍👍❤️
You should visit, you'd love it. North Yorkshire has lots of gorgeous small towns, villages, and hamlets that you would definitely enjoy very much, each of them packed with historic places and set in fantastic scenery.
Also watch our tour of Pateley Bridge in the Yorkshire Dales - ruclips.net/video/XRa8-W6vSlg/видео.html
Wow l really enjoyed that !
Thanks you - it’s a lovely little place isn’t it! I was really surprised when I got there!
Beautiful market town, gorgeous video. 👍🏻 It would have been nice to show the excellent main car park, next to the visitors centre 2 minutes away ~ as although you think it is too quiet (😂 I live in a North Yorkshire village and this is very busy by comparison) it’s really not advisable to drive up into the area you have shown, the streets are narrow and driving around clogs up life for those who do live there ~ consideration is always much appreciated. Hope you all enjoy a visit soon.
Thank you very much
I think I will definitely film another one there (maybe during Victorian market) and film the walk from or to that carpark to show it off ❤️❤️❤️❤️
My cousin used to work on emmerdale &heartbeat as a sound supervisor, he now lives near Harrogate
I just subscribed to your channel. What a beautiful village Grassington is. I live in the USA but watch so little US TV. I primarily watch the British shows on our PBS station. I'd be lost for TV if it wasn't for the excellent quality of British Programming. I can't stand the majority of American TV Programs. I currently have been watching All Creatures Great and Small, and its nice to see the actual locations. Grassington looks bigger than I expected and I love how walkable it is. Excellent video. Thanks
Loved this! My mum and sister live in Grassington and I've never seen their houses. I stayed in the big hotel there for my sister's wedding and then not long after moved to New Zealand. Couldn't work out where their houses were so will ask them.
*Well Filmed going tomorrow ! All Creatures back on Channel 5 in UK - favourite series !*
The Yorkshire Dales is such a beautiful area. Castle Bolton (not too far away from Grassington) has a post box with the royal initials “VR” which is apparently quite rare, quite old too really.
What a gem of a place to visit we have just booked for August /September for this year cannot wait to visit
Have a great time - it's such a lovely place to be
This was a splendid and enjoyable visit. Thank you!
Thank you too!
This is a stunning beautiful village.
I love everything about it.
From the cosy tradition cafes
Stone buildings
The shops
Thankfully no mc'Donalds.
I would love to live there.
But I can dream..
And the fact that is in Yorkshire
Is a extra bonus
As it's in Yorkshire I adore.
Gods own county..❤❤
Thank you ever so much for showing
What a lovely village. I absolutely loved watching all Creatures Great and Small every weekend when I was in my teens in the 80s...
I live in the city but from places I lived for a year or two, I long to live in the outskirts of a small town again someday. At my age don't think I can live abroad again unless I remarry, would be nice if he was British. Oh well, will keep on dreaming on.
The Ford is a 1930-31 model A. British built coachwork. Nice car.
Very nice!
Impressive car!
Lovely place must visit soon, keep up the good work 👟👟
Thanks Joolz!
This was a great walk with lots of commentary.
Another excellent presentation, thanks for posting.
Thank you Allan!
New subscribers here. We'll be in Grassington for a week in September. Your walk makes us already feel like we know the place!
Loved the video and Grassington, it seems very welcoming and a place that you could enjoy and escape the hustle and bustle of the world. But another plus it is used as you have indicated for the PBS series :"All creatures, great and small," which I must say is one of my favorite television series.
Agreed - lovely place and great tv show!
A beautiful video my friend, but as my old lady is in a wheelchair, I'm afraid the cobblestones would play havoc with her suspension. ....lol. Great work as usual.
Ah yeah the cobblestones would be a nightmare!
Hope you are both safe and well ❤️❤️
absolutely beautiful place
It really is!
So lovely that the buildings and cobbles are so well preserved and have viable business operating today. Would love to visit and have afternoon tea!
Love the show and would love to visit this charming town. But I live in the USA. Maybe someday!
The dickensian xmas fayre is good to see when it's on
That's not till 2022 now but the town this year will still be decorated and all the small businesses will also be done up
Might be worth another trip for you it's beautiful
Oh I would love to see and film that!
Just came back from Haworth which I loved. Grassington is now a must! Beautiful video x
Thanks for the tour, never realised it was so lovely since I don’t watch the series all creatures great and small. Good to know the sights and buildings that were used. Intend going there when the weather gets nicer. Thank you.
An absolutely fantastic historic village. Have visited umpteen times in the past, and thoroughly enjoyed it every time.
Agreed! Lovely place!
For the "All Creatures Great and Small" fans; the Devonshire is used for the exterior shots of the "Drovers Arms", but the interior shots are done at the Green Dragon in Hardraw, near Hawes, and about 20 miles further north. It doesn't need dressing because the Green Dragon really is exactly like what you see in TV series !
Thank you so much for the info!
I love stuff like that!
I think Grassington is great! After living in a place where jets are a constant the quietness of the village would be a welcome change.
It was not transferred from West Yorkshire to North, it was transferred from the old West Riding of Yorkshire to the new non-metropolitan county of North Yorkshire. Not the same thing! However, I have visited many times, especially when travelling between Ripon and Skipton for work. Grassington was my lunch stop!
I can't think of any better place for lunch than Grassington! What a lovely place!
I live here, and I use mine.
Beautiful
Lovely isn’t it!
@@GimbalWalkTV
You should have a look at Burnsall a few miles away. It's tiny but the views and the river make it a tourist attraction locally.
I always forget that Grassington is somewhat famous now. I live one village over and its just a 15 minute walk away from my house. I went to the primary school and worked at the Cobblestones! It is a lovely little place though. I've seen the film sets multiple times and even met some of the filming crew (not the cast members though). After they've finished filming any scenes with fresh produce, they leave it out and let the locals/tourist take what they want. Some locals get to act as extras every now and again and it's always fun walking through and seeing how they've dressed up the place.
Loved it !!!!
Thank you ❤️
I really want to visit Grassington , it looks gorgeous, I’m hoping to get a train from Leeds
Absolutely Magnificent 💯 definitely visiting in September can't wait Absolutely Fabulous.
I think there’s a 40s weekend then too
Fabulous video yet again even without music it was still great thanks and keep on walking 👍
Thanks, will do!
With music you couldn't hear the sparrows chirping or the scream of the swifts swooping overhead. They are the sound of summer in this part of the world and very welcome.
Another lovely looking place to visit. Great video, keep on walking 😀
Thank you, I will
Gorgeous going Sunday. Fab video sold it to me. Been everywhere around apart from here .
Hope you enjoyed it!
Lovely place. Well worth a visit methinks xxx
Definitely
Sweet and beautiful city:-|
Very!
Been to grassington a few times love the Dickensian weekends in December 👍
I can't wait to see that!
Outstanding video ! Aside from the quaint, gentle beauty of an historically, and accurately preserved 'time piece'... the weather cooperated nicely to showcase charming sites on the tour. We sincerely appreciated the 'silence' of this tour, and the 'closed caption' explanations. To hear the faint sounds of the visitors and tourists added to the ambience of actually being there, (and not a 'voice over'.) Thank you for this delightful trip around Grassington. It's on our 'bucket List' to visit.
Thank you so much
It’s definitely one of the loveliest places I’ve been to
I’d love to live here👌🏻
Certainly could live in a village like Grassington it's amazing , I've been to Skipton but not got as far up as Grassington yet , would love to go to the Christmas Market 😀, I'm a new subscriber and I'll Definitely be clued to your channel 😀🤗 Thanks for taking us with you 😀
Ah thank you and welcome! I visit all over the place so let me know where you think I should film!
It is a lovely village and I so enjoyed thevvideo I would love to go there
Thank you - it's a lovely place
Absolutely beautiful ❤ I’d love to live thr ❤️
You should!
1930 FORD MODEL A PHAETON... WITH A 3300 cc ENGINE.
Thanks Rick! What a beautiful machine eh!!
good village
Agreed!
Yes i could live here.
Fab isnt it!
Grassington xmas festival I forgot to put in on the previous link
Thank you Malcolm I really appreciate it ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for this virtual tour. Very grateful to have had a chance to visit where the new All Creatures Great & Small was filmed. Been wanting to visit Grassington after watching Series 1. I live in Singapore, but my partner and I go to UK regularly (he's English and we have family there). Until we next go to UK in spring, I'm very sated by your video - especially the cross-faded comparison photos from the series! Thank you! (Did you by any chance drive by the Dales seen in the series?)
I didn't on this occasion but plan to!
The inside of the drovers is about another 40 miles back into the dales at a place called Hawes .. They do a all creatures great and small tour now which I believe leaves from York and takes you through multiple locations in the dales
Love your videos. Do you film with a camera phone or a video camera on a stabiliser
Thank you - I use both and a gimbal stabiliser 👍👍
Thanks for your detailed explanation. May I ask what eventful in Grassington? The lovely villages are worth sightseeing. Bravo!
Thank you
If you're wandering what you can do in Grassington, there are some lovely walks in the area. The walk from Grassington to Burnsall is my favourite though, 3½ miles. There is the 1940's weekend from the 16th to the 18th of September. The Dickensian Festival is on in December though I don't know the dates for that yet.
There are plenty of pubs or holiday cottages/B&B's to stay in and lots of little shops and cafes to visit. I'm lucky to live just a village over.
Many thanks for your helpful video. We have a popular period townhouse apartment holiday rental in Grassington. It's just off the main market square (with parking!) and is called, 'Fern House,'. I have shared your video on our Facebook page :)
Amazing thank you so much! 👍👍 Might have to stay there when I’m filming around the area!
@@GimbalWalkTV That would be lovely.
Its still being used as the location for ACGAS and will be for at least another 2 series as C5 have commissioned to series 5. Although the real town that Alf Wright (James Herriott) worked in was Thrsk in N Yorks
That's great news! I"ll be popping back there soon then!
@@GimbalWalkTV I think they film round feb, march, april, may time.
Yup series 3 is or has very recently finished filming and C5 has commissioned to series 5 so they will be there for another 2 years at least
That's so great - such a popular programme!
Looks amazing but like you said too quite to live there
Yeah very quiet for me!
I’m a city dweller tho so not used to peaceful places 🤣
I lived in Grassington and can tell you it can be anything but quite. There are loads of groups to join + the four pub's
🥰💕💕💕💕🥰
❤️
Hi me again , could you tell me , are the causeways ok for a mobile scooter ? I'm afraid I have to use one now a days , Thank You 🤗
I think they are yes if it can get up hills you will be fine
is grassington dog friendly is there vegetarian cafes/ restaurants and are there any clothing shops and supermarkets and veg/fruit shops
Hey mate is there a train station at grassington am comeing from Sheffield see 😊😊😊
The nearest train station is Skipton. Grassington is then a 15-20 minute ride by taxi or bus.
Skipton is closest Andy!
Thanks for interesting town walks series. Just to let you know, Tom Lee was first hanged (not hung) this is the correct description and word for that form of execution. Interestingly, he was later hung (not hanged - here you were perfectly correct) in chains in Grassington. In this case hung is the correct word, as it was too late by that stage to execute him as he was hopefully dead by that time. Also note, for correctness, dates after the BC period are preceded by AD (for Anno Domini - literally - in the year of our Lord) only Yoda would say someone was “born in 1750 in the year of our Lord”. The rest of us non-Jedi, English speaking mortals would say, “born in the year of our Lord 1750” so AD 1750 and not 1750 AD. I hope this constructive criticism is taken well, in the spirit of helpfulness in which was intended.
No fish and chip shop?😂
There was one but it was closed 🤣
Yes, indeed there is a fish and chip shop. Amazed the video failed to show it. It is next to the Black Horse and across from the Corner House. Jack makes fabulous fish and chips. No churning out and putting in the heated cabinet. All orders cooked specially how you like them while you wait.
@@marionrfield Perfect!
I was interested to see your video as I love Grassington but, I'm afraid, your use of POV camera style made me feel nauseous after about a minute. I've watched loads of other POV vids with no problem but the way you pan is just not good. Sorry, hope others enjoyed it and you have success.
Spoiled by its newly found fame that has brought in all the tourists.
To be fair though the village would have had the choice to decline the filming offer if they were worried about that happening
I live here, and the tourists don’t spoil it at all. Tourists came here long before the filming of All Creatures started! Victorian tourists used to come here, which I why a railway track was begun, though only the earthworks were ever finished, and the track was never laid. I enjoy talking with our tourists and I’m very pleased they want to come.
Looks a bit samey, boring
😮😮😮😮
