    I'm a HGV driver. In the most trucks you can scroll through the menu and see exactly the level of soot in the dpf. You can monitor it and when necessary do a manual regen. In all the diesal cars I've owned, nothing. Absolutely no way to monitor your dpf. Not even a light to inform you it's doing a regen. Designed to fail.

      for dpf monitoring at the level of how much soot you have, you need to get a diagnostic tool. Do you guys on the HGVs ever have the DPF serviced? I have seen that on big vehicles the DPF unit is made to be easy to open and service.

    Very easy to fix. Remove the DPF and fit a straight pipe. I did this and never another problem.

      How old was the vehicle when it needed the "surgery" ?

      100% along with disabling stop/start to prevent stretched chains

      You need to show the DPF is still there for legal reasons. Remove the DPF and empty its contents so its just an empty shell, then put it back. Nobody will ever know.

    Engines are made to rev up to red line and they need to be revved up high once in a while.
    That 1500 rpm, highest gear DPF and DMF destructing eco nonsense is the first thing to ignore.

      my car has moments when it wants to drive with 50mph at 1000 RPM ... saying that 1500 rpm is it's preferred RPM.

    Simple on car with DPF change oil every 6 months or max 5000Km in harsh conditions every 3 months or max 2500Km (Toyota Japan officially recommends that)

    I have a Viano, the particulate filter has already been changed. In third gear and when you press the accelerator to the maximum, at night I can see some smoke coming from the exhaust. Could the intake be clogged with carbon? The intake was cleaned a while ago but it did not reach the intake valves. Any other cause? I do notice less acceleration and some delay when pressing the accelerator. And I think I am starting to hear the typical turbo whistling, but I am not sure what that is exactly.

    • @BestCarMods
      @BestCarMods  20 дней назад +1

      this assessment of 3rd gear at night = smoke is a very subjective evaluation. I would repeat the test during the day with someone driving in the car behind and worry about that later. The intake part, realistically the most important area to clean is the valve ports and valves, however this Is important mostly for transitory operation(aka acceleration), unless the ports are extremely clogged. To conclude you or someone, needs to evaluate the vehicle overall, air leaks, dpf backpressure, dpf regen cycles, and after that reach a conclusion. And to answer you question ... yes the intake can be clogged with carbon, but unless it is an extreme case, you can live with it.

      @cransaftvalve734 19 дней назад +1

      @@BestCarMods Thanks. I said third thing at night because that's when the cars are illuminated from behind with their lights and it's more noticeable. During the day it's not possible to see the smoke, maybe someone from behind can see it, I don't know. In the end I'll take apart the entire intake and try to get to the valves by putting each cylinder in compression and then sucking in as much as possible.

    Pretty sure my turbo failed due to back pressure from blocked dpf

    • @BestCarMods
      @BestCarMods  Месяц назад

      and maybe also some oil dilution ... the turbo dies faster due to oil contamination than backpressure.
