- lots of different reasons why your dpf gets blocked. here are the most common causes of diesel particulate filter blockages and why they need cleaning.

As a former Ford tech I can honestly say that if it's a 2.0 or 2.2 duratorq diesel between 2006 and 2013 or so. It would nearly always be Either DPF pressure/soot load sensor or the pipes leading to it. The amount of customers I had getting ripped off by other garages quoting new DPF's is sickening. I recommend keeping a DPF pressure sensor that works handy as a spare to check the condition of the existing sensor without wasting too much time on diag. If the sensor is at fault then you'll get a different reading of voltage or on the laptop, a soot load percentage. Some sensors (2.0) mainly on the Kuga have rubber pressure pipes from the DPF to the sensor. _ALWAYS_ check these with a pressure/vacuum testing tool. Look for splits/cracks in the pipe as this will give incorrect pressure readings and trick the ECU into thinking the DPF isn't blocked. Equally if soot gets clogged in the pipe it will constantly think it's got a blocked DPF and will repeatedly fault even after a £1000 DPF replacement job has been done. Hope this helps anyone with these issues. I am a *Former* Ford qualified tech so new issues may have arisen with these cars in the past 3 years that I don't know about so always consult a current tech before selling out to Ed in a shed.
Thank you very much for the video on the filter cleaning to the c30. My V70 with the same issue and in limp mode, I did exactly like you did and now after I erased the codes it works fine again💃 Thought I had to change the filter. You saved me a lot of money so TU again
Great to hear!
I'd like to add to that list, regen halted because of oil dilution or oil level too high. Most diesels i see have oil level sensors and oil dilution calculations on board. If they get too high, no more regens. After service, they need to be reset to allow regens.
Great video, thanks for sharing all this knowledge mate
Thanks , I am making a note of all your great info ,I just got a 907 sprinter and now need to wise up ready .
Your a fountan of knowledge thanks for helping out the working man. 😊
Love your videos Jimmy, especially some of the things you find after they have been to other garages.
Glad you like them!
Your a good knowledgeable honest consensus man Jimmy !!
Thank you
The man the myth the legend, the dpf wisper.yes then jimmy lad
👍👍👍
Thank you Jimmy
Brilliant overview - thanks so much. Appreciated.
Glad it was helpful!
I feel like you made this video just for me 👍
Really nice content keep up the great work,
Quality info Jimmy👍
Thank you
Brilliant video 👏
Thank you! 👍
I had a Mazda 2.2 diesel SKYACTIV, that when wrong from new with only 7000 miles on the clock, blocked DPF, turns out it needed new injectors at a cost of thousands, all done under warranty, now I have a petrol that's like a diesel, new SKYACTIV X works on compression ignition but it's a petrol, very clever engine !
Another informative video, have you done any VWs ? Seems like you do a lot of Fords, having problems with a GTD that d love an actual expert to speak to, a lot of mechanics out there haven’t a clue when it comes to actually correctly diagnosing something 🙁🇮🇪
Some great info there Jimmy 👍 I was told that some manufacturers engines won’t do a regen if the vehicle is due or over due a service 🤷♂️
Honda. Subaru. Kia. Mazda Possibly others.
@@ORileysAutos That's one way to force the user into the garage....!!
Our newer vivaros/traffics on our taxi fleet won't regen when oil deterioration code gets stored
@Kyle Symonds I seen a 2016 Vivaro today oil deteriorated fault
In fords case - blown fuse for the vaporiser
Amazing video couldnt find anywhere else
The problem is that due to crazy emission regulations manufacturer’s have made diesels too complicated
The emission regulations are not crazy, have you seen what comes out of a straight piped diesel?
@@potluckfishing Well, whatever it is, the rain will flush it all from the air.
How many diesels without DPF can we run and still stay cleaner than 1 forest fire? How many diesels are there in a forest fire? Or instead of 1 forest fire, how many diesels can we run?
@@elbuggoeven if what you said is true…. What happens when it’s not raining? Ah that’s right we are still breathing in particulates, the really fine ones that can cross the blood-gas barrier in the lungs. So does rain now also wash NOX out of the atmosphere as well?
@@Mac_F87 Actually, I do not know what the problem with NOX is at all. To me it looks like someone hates diesel engines, and to make them unpopular, they claim NOX is a monster released to the air we breath in by the evil diesel engines - they are so mean!
Just because someone claims NOX is a problem, how can we know? I recently learned that all we have been told about the dangers of Cholesterol has been incorrect or irrelevant. It turned out that Cholesterol isn't any problem at all.
RE: does rain wash NOX out
I don't know! But the concentration in the air isn't increasing and accumulating, is it? If not, there is something that picks up NOX somewhere. Maybe by a chemical reaction? How much NOX has been released to the air the last billion years, and how much is left? Where did it go?
That was immensely illuminating video, I've looked all over the internet for a simple list of dpf problems and here it is, by the way would you know what are the most common causes of oil dilution? some of the above perhaps?
I'm pretty sure oil dilution is mainly cause by worn piston rings which can be caused by not changing engine oil soon enough ( a lot of newer cars just have cheep shit piston rings that cause blow by , blow by is when oil or fuel gets by the piston rings ) keeping the right spec oil in your car it dose matter especially if your car has a turbo and the Dpf will do it's job better because of the oil additives or lack of which matter as well , keep your oil topped up but never over fill or oil gets in place's it should not be or at least to much oil can be pushed in to the cylinders and then ends up in the exhaust system and clogs up the Dpf sooner .
@@paulgilraine3127Fuel injectors need to be right, could be poor spray pattern, could be leaking, blocked and dribbling etc, unburned fuel can get by. In a petrol maybe there's no spark and we're just washing the cylinder walls.
Had the pleasure of removing at Dpf today from a 2018 a4 god almighty a dose god be with the old cars there are no good cars out there anymore
How can you tell if a vauxhall is doing a dpf regen ehile youre driving please?
I have a Volvo c30. I have just had my alternator replaced. About 2 days later I have had a dpf blocked fault.i called the AA out. They couldn't clear the fault. However he said there was no blockage and everything was fine. I drove it home and it seemed fine. The next day it was back in limp mode. Any help would be appreciated.
Which car manufacturer brands are more problematic? I have a PSA 2.0 HDi and it's been fine for the last 115k miles.
Alright mate I bought some of the launch UK dpf cleaner & flow restorer... Just read the label and it says compatible with all diesel engines without on board additive dosing system system... Mine is a vw crafter 2016 with add blue... Is this no good for my engine?
Is that the flow restorer? That sounds like it means PAT fluid vehicles not adblue
@@ORileysAutos hi thanks for the reply yes cleaner and flow restorer
Mine regens all the damn time. Every 6 miles on the Mway the glow plugs come on, it heats up to 600 degrees, the pressure drops a little and then repeat.
The pressure is at 1 to 3 at idle and can go to 14kpa at 3 to 4 thousand revs.
Very frustrating and a waste of fuel.
Check your intake pipes? Cant have any leaks there either.
would you say driving the car in the M50 for like 20minutes will do ? at atleast 2000rpm ?
Depends if the car is in good working order
@@ORileysAutos yes it is no warning on dash or anything 🙂
Doesn’t need to be motorway. Find a long hill & drive up that, you’ll generate more heat.
@@hughmarcus1 thank you! also do you think dpf filter cleaners liquid work? ty in advance!
@@DojoDyocleaners only work if applied like Jimmy does. The ones you add to fuel have a very limited effect.
Hi what scan tool are you using please?
Launch UK Euro Tab 3
@@ORileysAutos thankyou
Hi all these fords with the same old issues, is that why you drive a Mercedes sprinter,
*VW Crafter 2.0 TDI 😉
So basically absolutely everything will block the DPF 😂
Its a flawed technology and drivers have very little if no understanding of this , time to say goodbye to diesels on anything other than trucks or tractors.
We’ve had 3 DPF equipped vehicles in our house ( between the 3 my wife and I have probably clocked up between 150-175000 miles.
We’ve never once had a DPF light on.
We live in the country up in the hills.
The issues with DPFs are mostly driver behaviour by people who don’t understand how a particulate filter works & how to maintain it.
So basically stay TF away from diesels
I've never owned a petrol car yet
@@ORileysAutos But you can fix them 😂
@@Mith29 If you predominantly do short journeys then yeah get a Petrol car, but if you do long journeys or a mix of both, diesels usually work out quite a bit cheaper over a few years.
thanks for the information. In Italy, I use a Motul cleaner with a Beta pump to clean the dpf. I would also like to try what you are using. congratulations for your professionalism
Never own a diesel with a EGR or DPF
The main cause of a blocked DPF is because you have a DPF
Does that blonde girl work with you?.. 🤔
