  • At 181,000 miles, there was certain misfiring going on. Very obvious when towing. The spark plugs were 80,000 miles old and the coils were original. Time to replace both and regain the 360 Horsepower I had before. Once done, what a difference!

    Got a 2015 F150 5.0 this was a great video. I’m at 105,000 miles. Preventative maintenance is important. Most folks don’t want to spend money and cheap on on parts and maintenance and end up paying a lot more in repairs & or vehicle not making in to 200,000 miles or more. Who needs a Haynes repair manual when you have people like you😎👍🏻

      Yes sort of if DOHC 32 valve is fancy right as opposed to pushrod, or is it just the 2000's and anyone with a pushrod is out of date🤣🤷‍♂. It's been a great engine from an otherwise marginal company. Thanks for watching.

    Having exact issue on my 2017 F-150 5.0L with 87k miles. Stuttering "pop pop" at low rpm on both flat and uphill. When its "taxed" is the exact language I would use as well. Looking at purchasing coils and plugs now. I hope I have the same results as you. Thank you for posting and going into such detail. Much appreciated sir.

      Yep, sounds like it. The more I paid attention to it, I found it happened on rough or smooth roads and only when I'd throttle it a little, so I determined with a quick and brief discussion with my mechanic that is was 95% chance coils and/or plugs. I mean it had been nearly a 90K miles on the plugs and the coils were original, so 170K /180K something, so figured I'd replace those. I'd go to RockAuto and see if they have good replacements. I went to AutoZone and they had Chinese stuff. My father-in-law went to RockAuto and got American made replacements. I'll be doing both again on my wife's Ford Flex coming up. Thanks for watching.

    My 2018 Ford F150 V-8 has at times ran a little rough over the last year for just a few seconds when I was going up a hill and I thought it might be bad gas or maybe it was time to change the spark plugs because I had about 75,000 miles on my truck. It only done this maybe 3 times a month so I was not in a big hurry to fix it. Then about 2 months ago my truck ran rough one night and the next day the check engine light came on and stayed on, but my truck was running fine. Then the light went off, but I decided to let my Ford dealer check my truck out and they said the engine was randomly misfiring on multiple cylinders and that the timing chains, gears, and guides needed replacing. I knew my truck had always made more noise than I thought it should and I had researched it and knew that the VCT system on these trucks caused weird noises and also caused some performance problems, so I let them replace the timing chains, gears, and guides. Ford never issued a recall on any of this and my truck was out of warranty, but I had told them about these noises and I told them I knew what was causing them, but because the check engine light never came on when it was under warranty there was nothing they could do. Well they fixed my truck and they charged me what I thought was a very reasonable price to do it, so I was happy. The truck ran better than I remember it running when it was new and it is a lot quieter and it shifts better. It ran great for a week and then it started running rough one night and I turned it off and restarted my truck and the check engine light came on and this time it was flashing. I was at a store getting ready to shop, so I turned off my truck and went in side for about 20 minutes and when I started my truck this time it ran perfect and the check engine light was off, so I drove 25 miles to get back home and my truck ran fine the whole time. I got to thinking and both times that my check engine light came on and it was running rough, it was sitting still and it had been raining when it happened. I need help if anyone has any ideas. I have done a little research and I think one of the coil packs is some how getting wet from the rain or high humidity and it is causing the coil pack to short out and when you leave it alone for a short time it dries out and then it runs fine. I also think that as long as my truck is moving, even if it is raining, it runs fine because the air circulation is preventing it from getting on the coil pack and that is why when it is sitting still and it is raining it starts running rough. I also think it is where the wire connects to the coil pack that is the area of concern. I am glad I fixed the VCT timing chain issue because it made my truck run better, but now I wonder if this coil pack issue could have been the problem all along. Any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated before I let the dealership look at it again.

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere  Год назад +2

      Of course, every truck in different, but timing chains should last a good long time, several hundreds of miles in my opinion. I always go for the cheap and easy and seemingly simple fixes most times and se if they work. They are often the most likely many times. I had replaced the plugs around 100,000 miles, so it was a little early for those and on my 4.6L, I had a similar issue with coils, meaning once replaced, it was a huge difference and around the same mileage, so I figured what the heck right. I think it worked out. if your timing chain went that early, I would have been embarrassed to be Ford. I guess the engines are pretty complicated now, but there are some basic things to review before major repairs. I'm sorry i couldn't be more helpful. Thanks for watching.

    Just wondering if you got a check engine light come on after this happened? The reason I ask is that I just experienced what you described, with what seemed like a bumpy section of a previously smooth stretch of road (duh!), then later that light came on, code reader showed P0351, which is a "Ignition Coil "A" Circuit Primary/Secondary Malfunction".

      Nope, I never got a CE light oddly enough. Mine is a 2013, not sure if that matters, maybe yours is newer or older and this particular issue would trigger it. I just recently did them in my dad's 2007 and he had one and it went off after we replaced them. Thanks for watching Martin.

I'll be doing a full front end replacement soon, like new coil overs, arms, rods and ball joints to a nice aftermarket OEM replacement that can be greased. My question is when you pull the coil packs off is there anything that's sitting on top of the spark plugs that I have to unscrew I'm doing this for the first time Ford did them and all of my coil packs are leaking oil

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere  Год назад +1

      Hmm, that sounds really weird, I mean coil packs should leak oil. You unscrew the bolt on top of the coil pack and then the bottom of the coil pack goes over the top of the spark plug. The coil packs don't come into any contact with any part that has oil that I am aware of. Now maybe the spark plug isn't tight and oil is getting up through there. But even that should be a small amount of oil, nothign that should reach the coil pack really, at least I wouldn't think. If you want to send me an email with a picture so maybe I can understand it better, you're welcome to. Thanks for watching.
