Buses & Coaches in Portree

  • Likely the only time a 'Buses & Coaches at Portree' video will ever appear on my channel. Portree is essentially the 'capital' of the Isle of Skye but despite this its only about the size of St Ives (Cambs). Services here are either run by Stagecoach Highlands or Scottish Citylink however it is also sometimes served by other coaches on Private Hire (the D&E Coaches Coach in this video) and tour minibuses such as Rabbie's and WOW Scotland (which I didn't record but feature in the background).
In my opinion the most interesting buses on Skye are the B7RLE Eclipse 1s, of which there are five in total, although this video only has 21207. I find these the most interesting as they aren't very common within Stagecoach as they're only acquired when buying out companies (in this case Rapson's in 2008). Plus I do like B7RLEs and these look rather good despite the questionable application of beachball.
A thing of note for anyone wanting to spot in Portree; research before you spot as there are times where there is nothing (and I mean nothing) due in for a while. Plus I don't think Stagecoach run anything there on a Sunday.

Those Citylink elites are 50ft long, u have to get your angle perfect, I was on one with this young man driving, very smooth the whole way and made it look easy getting into the bus stance 3 where others shunt it, I always remember the young man, I've been on his bus a few times i always remember him as he has hit seat tilted way back and has it very low down, very quite but polite driver and always gives a lovely safe drive. Shame there are some who just speed the entire way

It did look like a rather difficult turn even from the outside. Though as you say some clearly manage it better than others.

Skye is a stunning island, I stayed up there once for a holiday many years ago. Incredible scenery, beautiful places to visit, peace and not to mention the fantastic wildlife although you do have to keep your eyes on the road at times lol! If I remember rightly, Portree is the biggest town on the island, did you have a good time while you were there?

I agree with you on all those comments, it's a rather nice place. Yep Portree is the biggest, yet still fairly small!
Wasn't a bad holiday albeit I found hills difficult (bearing in mind Cambridge is 99% flat) however admittedly I regret not travelling on either the 57A/57C North Circular routes, but sadly due to bus timings that day I didn't have the time.
