I am in Australia and I went for a MRI scan and I am quite a sizable Afrikaner so the experience was to put it mildly rather SIHT, but that is what you get with a public health system. You will wait in lines for hours. This one young boy who had a broken arm, not cracked, broken completely broken and he waited with us for 7 hours before he saw a doctor. And no you will hear South Africans in Australia, say but this, but that, but we both know it is true.
That's sad, it doesn't matter which country it is, no kid should be going through that, but aye this world will be this world

The government is currently building a R 1,4 Billion hospital in Mpumalanga which looks like a 20 year old building!

The New Johannesburg Hospital (now Charlotte Maxeke) was also beautiful when it first opened in 1979. You can actually see it in the distance to the left of the tower at 12:44

You’ll need medical aid which will set jou back about £150 per person per month. But yes very high quality and quick service if you belong to a medical aid.
Don't be too quick to criticise the NHS. I have been in England now 15 years and can say only positive things about the NHS.

Hospitals are mostly only as good as the nursing staff.
Recently I visited a friend in ICU at a posh private hospital and was appalled at the standard and arrogant attitude of the nursing staff.
I have since been told that most nursing staff are supplied by agencies so hospitals can at a moments notice not employ them at the hospital's discretion eliminating labour CCMA disputes.
Most competent SA medical staff have been recruited by overseas agencies to work elsewhere.
100% correct unfortunately . You can have the most "hotel-like" glamorous hospital like this one , but without well trained and highly educated nursing professionals , you really have nothing.
