That is a beautiful looking/ sounding bass. You look like you can play that tune in your sleep. I’ve been playing 47 years and I’m in awe of bass players like you that can make it look so effortless. Lovely tune btw. 👍🏴👏👏👏
@@nelsonrios absolutely Nelson. Big fan. Your left hand technique is flawless. No extra strained sloppy movement. Very smooth man. Just like that beauty of an instrument in your hands
I’ve been listening to these basses on RUclips for only a couple of wks but, this I think is the one! Love the tone, the size thickness . Such a beautiful voice.❤❤❤❤🎶🎶🎶🙏🙏🙏💎💎🧿🧿🪬🪬🥃🥃🇬🇧🇬🇧 Thankyou.
As a complete newbie starting my bass lessons soon, this makes me want to get into playing and developing my skills. You do not overplay, not making it gimmicky. It’s more down to earth compared to some of the show offs here on RUclips.
you are right. Now that I have played and heard bass for years, I am convinced that when playing bass, 90% of the notes one tends to play are suprefluous (if yoi get rid of them, the music would be better). Overplaying is a big mistake. You can do it while practicing at home to develop technique, but in a real group or recording context, less is more (at least for the bass).
Bonjour Nelson ! Vous jouez formidablement bien , vous me donnez terriblement envie de me "mettre" à la fretless 😀 J'amerais savoir sur quel type d'amplification vous jouez (sur cette vidéo) ? Et quels sont vos réglages? Merci.
Thanks 🙏 Merci!
I’ve been playing bass for a few years now and have just started playing live for my church on Sundays. I have an Ibanez SR505 and an Epiphone EB-3 that I play and I want a fretless so bad. We play a lot of jazz style music and a fretless would fit perfect. I played one for the first time a while back and loved it. Just gotta buy one now!
I'm not exactly sure why, but this brings one of my all time favorite bassists to mind. Your playing doesn't sound like Percy Jones, but it makes me feel the same way his playing does. Which is a very good feeling. I first heard him on the track Energy Fools The Magician by Brian Eno when I won the soundtrack to the film Rock & Roll High School from a radio station in 1979. I had no idea what those sounds were, but I knew I had to learn how make them. I like your playing. Great tone, great intonation and subtle use of the fretless sounds that are so easy (and fun) to overuse. Very tasteful, solid playing.
Thank you for the wonderful music. I have subscribed. Did you compose this?? You’re a great bass string player. Right from the get go to the very end you give it all to us. So interesting. Makes me want to listen again and again to your Clearity , Attack, Rythmic and Melodic Phrasing. Every bar is perfect. Love your sound
Thanks so much for your kind words my friend. Yes, I did composed the tracks and I’m playing all the instruments as well. Really appreciate your feedback. 🙏🙏
Amazing playing! First I saw your video on the Godin Shifter, then this. Had to press subscribe. 😎👍 I have a Godin A4 fretless that I love, however it doesn't have a magnetic pickup. To me, the piezo (?) pickup is way too bass heavy regardless how the bass knob is set, and then the output is ridiculously high compared to my other basses. Those issues make it a bit hard to use live. Your bass sounds more balanced to me, while I still clearly recognize the unique character of the bass I hear in mine as well. Do you think changing preamp or pickup would address this problem, or does it really need the magnetic pickup to sound as great as yours? A lot is in the hands of course, and yours are for sure more skilled than mine, but anyway I'd appreciate if you'd tell me what you think about that. 🙂
Hey Magnus, thanks so much for the comment! Really Appreciate it. Yes, I understand about having only one piezo pickup, I had a A4 before and I agreed that it's to low and don't cut. That's whyI like this new A4 Ultra. It's actually a great bass and the mix possibilities with the piezo and mag pickups are very different than before, also the LR baggs preamp it is much better. So answering your question, If was me I'll probably don't spend money trying to fix but instead I'll update to the A4 Ultra, that's what I did and I don't regret it. I think they did a great job on this one. Hope that helps you and Let me know if you have anymore questions
@@nelsonrios Thank you for your kind reply and answer to my question! It's pretty much as I assumed then regarding the pickups. I can't afford updating to an Ultra, and a Godin Shifter is higher on the wish list as well. But let's see what happens in the future. 🙂
Thanks Jean! The only thing that I add it was a little reverb. It’s all about the combination of the pickups and the position of your hands on the strings. That’s affected the sound too. Also where are you plugged in. I’m using in that video a SSL interface into a Logic my Boss Reverb 5
Dear Nelson, I must tell that each time I listen to this song I like it more and more, it sounds better and better every time, it has such a cool and confident style or tune with this fretless bass! I don't know whether it is because of the bassline or because of the hi-hat part but for me this Melody has such an 80's vibe, it sounds like a theme of an action-comedy movie, in which there's a scene when the protagonist takes a walk on the beach in Miami or California. I don't know in which movie did I hear something like this but it has such a typical 80's vibe. Anyway, I just want to say that for me this song is a true masterpiece and I'm glad that I found this video on RUclips. Thank You so much for this song! Greetings from Hungary! :) 🇭🇺

Hello friend, did you ever play the older Godin version of the ultra A4 with RMH amp system? Godin switched over to the LR Baggs preamp and piezos and almost doubled the price of the bass. I have the older version of the A5 Ultra and was considering changing out the RMH system to the LR Baggs one on my bass. Any thoughts on this? Sound improvement? Thanks!
Hey , thanks so much for watching. Yes I played the old version until they released this new one and in my opinion the LR Baggs pre amp is much better and more reliable system. Also, they improved the neck too. Hope you can try it and make your decision but it’s a really good bass. I think there are old videos with me playing the old model. I’ve been playing it this models for a long time and I remember one of my basses having a circuit board issues, that’s why I really like this change.
