  • Ever wondered why your cat doesn’t enjoy all of your music? So did David Teie. His research has led to the creation of music specifically for cats, and his TED talk will tell you about this journey of discovery.
David Teie was born into a musical family, one of a third generation of professional musicians. By the time he entered college he had set aside studies of piano, saxophone, and singing to concentrate on the cello. He worked with Stephen Kates and Berl Senofsky at the Peabody Conservatory where he received his Bachelors and Masters degrees and the Wertheimer award for cellists, and with William Pleeth in London on a Fulbright scholarship and studied composition with John Corigliano. He joined the National Symphony in 1984, eventually playing fifteen concerto performances with them, twelve with Maestro Rostopovich conducting, including performances on two U.S. tours and the first of the American Residencies. He spent the 1999 - 2000 season as acting principal cellist of the San Francisco Symphony.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

aww, i wish i could hear him better. it's a strain.
my cat adores his music, it puts him into a state of bliss. first hyper-attuned and refreshingly stimulated, then re;axed to sleep very blissfully. :) thank you!

It’s such a shame the sound quality is so dismal, this looks really interesting but I couldn’t finish the video 😕 Not the standard we expect from TED.

my cat was already napping, so i can't judge her reaction yet. but i am comforted and relaxed! i already relax at the sound of purring.

This is wonderful. Pandora has a Music for Cats station, and I play it when I'm at the rescue where I work. It calms them. Amusingly, the music they play on that station is some of the same music I listen to, myself.

David Teie knows his stuff. I didn't think I'd watch this video all the way through because of the poor sound and video quality, but it was interesting enough to keep me watching.

Is there a version of this for the audio can actually be understood? it is so difficult to understand all of the words he is saying. I really want to hear what he has to say

My cat loves one of my ring tones, and one only. She always comes running when she hears the Harry Potter Hedwig's Theme.
