I believe Claudia is 14 in this, though the actress is 19

Yeah, I wish they'd just say, "hey, she's 16 in this" ya know, just split the difference between the age of the actress and the initial idea of what age they were gonna use? A bit more believeable.

@@SACollins I actually have no issues with her character being 14. I suppose they needed some time to pass before she realises she is stuck and will never fully mature. The way I see it, for decades tv execs have expected everyone to buy late 20's/30 year old actors as 15/16/17/18 year old teens. I think I can stretch my mind around an 18/19 year old playing a 14 year old. When I was a kid my Dad used to take the absolute pee out of Beverley Hills 90210 for their ancient or 'never young' teens😂 I also see comments in other reactions saying her behaviour in ep. 4 is too much. 1. Claudia is high as a kite (even with Saint Louis' desire for moderation, he has been absolutely his nips on blood a few times) and 2. This is maybe the first bit of freedom, sense of belonging and complete lack of fear she has felt perhaps EVER in her entire life. It's heady stuff! Bailey Bass is adorable and also incredible in this role.

While the actress Bailey Bass was 18 during filming, Claudia in the show is supposed to be 14 when she was became a vampire. The reason she wasn't played by a younger actress is because labour laws in New Orleans (of which I approve) are quite strict, which you mentioned. Having an older actor, but also increasing Claudia's age, gets rid of some of the more repugnant, age related issues (I love her writing, but Anne Rice played with some messed up themes. Also, there is a big difference between reading something and seeing it onscreen, or even actors having to act it out *shudders in 'The Mayfair Witches' books* :/ ). Some other commentators have said Claudia acts much younger than her years in the show, and how it's not realistic. I actually read this a very specific way; as an indicator of Claudia's extremely sheltered, controlled, even abusive upbringing. Also, it potentially touches on the 'adultification bias' against black children, especially black girls. I can't wait until your reaction to episode 4.

@@SACollins 👍When you mentioned the two sisters who were reactors not picking up on Louis and Lestat's obvious relationship, I shouted, "HOW???" at the screen. 😂 In the movie I don't think I've ever witnessed a scene that screams "we're in a committed, long term queer relationship" more than the one in the dining room. I mean, COME ON! 😂 It's a great example of the "They were roommates" meme. 😂

Marius made Lestat swear not to tell any of his future fledglings anything about other vampires and even his own history. Lestat can’t reveal anything.

Just want to point out Claudia is 14 in this adaptation, and Magnus is Lestst's maker, not Marius. In the QOTD movie, they changed the book way too much and made Marius Lestat’s maker. Lestat met Marius much later and advised Lestat on being a vampire. Lestat wanted to stay with Marius, but Marius said no, that Lestat should go to New Orleans and live a normal lifetime. Marius also advised Lestat not to divulge anything Marius taught Lestat to any fledglings Lestat makes which becomes a real bone of contention between Lestat and Louis and Claudia as we see in Eps 5 & 6.
Anyway, I enjoy your videos, and I love when you referred to the incinerator as the barbecue.
