Seems like you could if you have enough of the beads and a thermos of hot water. And maybe something to help with straight edges or the shaping of it. Happy Arting 🌹
Please ONLY do this if you have permission ! Some carvings are very delicate & can be ruined quite easily, esp when pulling the cooled thermoplastic off, which is why most won't allow charcoal rubbings, etc
I always make a secondary mold because silicone does have shelf life and molds get dull. I do this _immediately_ upon receiving the mold. I keep an original casting as well so I can remake the mold at any time. Of course, I have a functioning art studio with plenty of storage. The folks who do their art on their kitchen table (not a bad thing!) may not be so lucky, so I understand that. So, this is extremely good info.
Great. I like that the plastic is reusable and used to make copies of molds, make you own from an object you have then recycle to use like one would do with clay, plaster or resin. When you recycle are you able to use to make orcipy a mold or only to cast it. Hi would you do a 3D object? I have a small Balinese carving I'd like to copy, would you use this and the method? Subscribed 😀
I don't know why I didn't think of this, lol, great hack, esp since you can then after just remelt the thermoplastic for more molds.. I have a bunch of 25 yr old soft molds that are deteriorating, though I might use cardboard around some, so fine details don't get squished out of whack. Thanks !

You didn’t state what you added to the silicone with the dropper at the 2:43 mark. I’m curious if it was an oil or just water. Thanks for the video and in advance for the answer. 🙂
This is a hardener (catalyst) for silicone. Liquid silicone for making molds consists of 2 elements, the silicone itself and the hardener. Silicone is always sold with the hardener in the kit.
Problem with using thermoplastic like this (in pliable form) - it tends to pull back from a mold as it cools. Also, soft molds require pushing the plastic into finer details, which distorts the shape of the final piece. Obvious when you wrap an object with it, the cooled plastic will always be loose fitting. Thermoplastic is very useful, but has its limitations.
Oh so smart! Thank you! I want to make squishies from my clay figures so this might be helpful to get there. I need to create very flexible, thin silicone molds of my figures and avoid the clunkyness of excess silicone that happens when you use a cup.
No entendi! Hola! Es un molde para hacer molde?? O se lo puede utilizar directamente?...no me quedó claro. Sino seria doble gasto... saludos desde Argentina 😊
Hahaha lol, I wish that would be PVA, coz the PVA is cheap but it's not, but it's very close to something like that. Anyway I tried my luck to make a Mold with PVA but it didn't work. Your work is awesome 👍🎉

So cool, so I could go to the old cemetery down the street and make a plastic mold of the carving on top and make plaster duplicates at home.

So mold a mold of a mold that was already molded ? Well molded, I mean noted.

also you can make 2 at one time too !
Cuz silicone mold is expensive, and for business you need more than 1 mold with same shape to make more products at same time
Therma was not melting in water ehy

Thank you very much! I think this method is good for simple molds. I wouldn't make very complex molds this way, although it is doable.

Can you please tell us the curing time, how long did you unmold those?
@@IamAli89 unmolding as soon as it cools (turns white. You can run cold water on it to make it cool faster). So minutes, rather than hours

Instead of thermoplastic you can just use a gluegun with hot melt glue.
Would it be possible to use PLA filament waste to make molds like that?
Theoretically it is possible, but I can't say how it will look in practice. I'll try it sometime.
How and where thermoplastic can be obtain?

Temu
You can find it on the Internet. Type in Google search "Buy thermoplastic and your city"

Can you pour epoxy resin into the polymorph mold?
It is possible, but in small quantities so that the resin does not boil, otherwise the mold will melt.
It might have helped to follow if the thermoplastic mold was a different color then the silicon mold of the mold of the mold. All white hurt my brain!
There are color (beads) that can be mixed into the polybeads (when warm) to create different colors.
La verdad es que está genial, pero al no estar explicando en latino o español cuesta entender. Gracias!!

No, what are you talking about! It grows on bushes. High in the mountains of North America.

Thermoplastic costs more than the mold itself
100 grams of thermoplastic can be bought for 3-5 US dollars, you can find it even cheaper. This amount is enough to make 5-7 small molds.
and it is reusable
