It's probably deloading not the shader, but a shadow or illumination map. The shader is therefor reading from some other texture, which happens to be green at that location. Alternatively, it could be deloading texture coordinates for the door. Then one of the textures (like a shadow or light map), might get mapped to a single pixel (probably 0,0) on the texture - and that pixel just happens to be green.
Anybody remember in OG Halo 2 in the campaign at certain points your screen could be covered by like, ghostly silhouettes of parts of cutscenes? I'd like to see a video on that
There's so much shit that is left to anecdote now. I remember in the Bungie mailsack, someone asked why the Covenant tech in Reach was different and never seen before. Bungie replied that the Covenant sect in Reach is a small scouting and artifact hunting group. They have their own technology unique to them. They're separate from the main Navy we're used to. I can't find that same post anywhere. It's lost to time. Many of Bungie's old pages are broken too.
8:01 isn't that a dead grunt on the floor at the foot of the green door? It could've spawned and bounced off the wall similar to how the secret plasma pistol spawns and bounces around in that big room on the level High Charity where the drones start fighting the Flood.
I’m pretty sure it’s a piece of an enforcer and not a grunt but before in the mission you ally with grunts so maybe they got teleported to that room at some point and died?
@@TigerBenn Whatever the case he was closer but he didnt seem to notice there was something in there... but its a grunt because they used to have blue toned blood...
Honestly I always rushed through quarantine zone and the next level out of fear of the flood and how scared I used to be of them. Could never appreciate the little details and how truly awesome these 2 levels were till the anniversary edition came out
On this level duo with Arbiter l, I've done something similar where it was the Elites on the final elevator that were changing colors from green to pink and blue, and then when we crouched over their bodies, we could change colors, and then every weapon we picked up would change colors. I think triggering it had something to do with killing them with needles that I took from them, but I'm not entirely sure. The effect also ended when we died. Like, even within the same checkpoint, my partner could still be green, I die, and I spawn in normal. Then every weapon of odd color we threw on the ground, if picked up by me, would change back to a normal color.
It may have taken a shader of the loading area. The object doesn't despawn but I would guess the game calls for a list of shaders for every area, each area might have a different one even if it occupies the same spot (if it calls by number on list). So instead of "large door" it gets "flood area wall" or something, both occupying the same number or priority in two different lists. It does look like the green may be a shader used in the "hell holes" at the base of the wall. Still used to give that color to forerunner textures.
It blows my mind that this wasn't common knowledge via fans exploring by now. There are days where in constantly reminded the Halo community that a little research and basic understanding of game mechanics could explain a lot of things, like the switches being preloaded data and shader issues.
It still impresses me that Halo 2 had such complex geometry during it's time and it still looks fire. Makes me wonder what it would look like if you applied Halo Reach shaders directly to the classic models (meaning not replacing the original geometry with newer geometry, while retaining reach's graphics)
I love the architecture and design of Forerunner structures. The Anniversary designs do not match at all nor do them any justice. So many hard surfaces and angles. The color pallette too. The tan colors mimic the ancient structures found on Installation 05. It also separates it from the blues of Installation 04. I love it.
apparently its well known as a fav place of some of the developers to go to near there old studio perhaps? still not 100% because of all the shader problems like gold hog and stuff but the wholesomeness is what makes it a good easter egg
Shader bug mite have something to do with it being dynamic (moving object/scenery). Someone below said it was doing that to elevators as well. Never actually noticed green door before though. Every time I play this level i'm hauling ass for some reason lol
yeah it's most likely a shader bug, but technically you didn't completely disprove it's easter egg status. Bungie could've just programmed the door to turn green at that specific loading point cause it was just a quick easy way to accomplish the task, and you wouldn't see any other doors of it's kind in regular gameplay anyways. (I do think it's a bug, but just something to consider) :)
Geez, I remember when we were first trying to get there. It was somewhat of a race to get to the door first. I remember getting pretty close, but could never get the final bit. Sliding down the corner was easy, finding the holes in the death barrier was a pain. I could never get back up past the barrier though.
Back in the day I went inside that Green Door ruclips.net/video/KalzT7b7SSo/видео.html I reuploaded in 2012 but did the trick in 2009. Kidd did a nice job analyzing the door. there are just two doors so when you reach the Green door it's just the same door that the Gondola first came out of and in fact the Green door room is the same room as the start. That splotch on the wall is also in the Green door room wall. That's how I knew I was just backtracking through the level. Bungie did like to reuse scenes.
I wonder if it is also the original color of the doors that open, but gets changed to grey (so they can easily monitor which doors do what) once the game is finished.
Halo 3 where do they ask for the password Easter egg are you able to go behind that door and is there anything behind there same area different question can you save that warthog before it blows up on that map
I really doubt there would be anything behind that door, apart from maybe just the hallway you're supposed to walk through... Nothing special. As for the warthog I'm pretty sure he already did a video on that. The warthog is scripted to blow up so there's no way to save it unfortunately.
I used to know a bootlegger named Green Door Dave, guy built a dunebuggy in his garage, except when he finished he realized he'd been building the thing in a shed, not a garage. Dumbfucker couldn't get it out afterwards. Lol, Green Door anything always reminds me of that clown. I think he once dared someone to hit his foot with a sledge. And they did, lol. Don't know the details on that one, but yeah, Green Door Cafe huh? I think it's a glitch too
This is unrelated but boys I got rejected on my last Valentine’s Day as a child so can I get an F in the chat for literally never having a childhood valentine? (Cause I turn 18 next year)
I know what's behind the green door. But it's an old movie, even older than me and personal grooming was primitive back then. So be cautious if you go looking for the answer.
In all the years I've been playing Halo I NEVER noticed this before.
Same, and I did a run through of 2 just a few weeks ago.
I play halo 2 and never seen it
Wtf same
same. ive read about it but never saw it; just like a lot of whats shown here, with background distruction and all that crap
Same here

So the green door is just a glitch. A shader bug, very cool info man.
Incredable
You beg.
How’s that mustache?
Just Some Guy without a Mustache thanks
Took 8:41 seconds to say it’s a shader bug
Anybody remember in OG Halo 2 in the campaign at certain points your screen could be covered by like, ghostly silhouettes of parts of cutscenes?
I'd like to see a video on that
Screen burns and screen shadows are what it is, and yeah a video on that would be cool. It still happens time to time, too.
It happened to me with my disc on a modern TV and never with any other games. So it's definitely game side and not TV side
I thought that was a bug that only happened when playing the game on the Xbox 360
Holy crap! I thought I was the only one!
Happens on my 360 and og xbox
Its not the textures or shaders being unloaded, that would crash the game. Its probably just a bad lightmap spot.
Why would the light map be green tho lol?
There's so much shit that is left to anecdote now. I remember in the Bungie mailsack, someone asked why the Covenant tech in Reach was different and never seen before.
