This is a Halo Custom Edition AI map (ONLY WORKS ON CUSTOM EDITION) that I created on Blood Gulch. The aim was to get 1000 bots fighting but unfortunately the game's engine cannot run that amount of AI and crashes very quickly if it exceeds somewhere between 90 and 100 bots... But nevertheless this is still a pretty big battle and full of action.
35 Marines vs 64 Covenant (at one time).
50/50 ratio divide on the teams is not balanced as marines snipers and rockets take out multiple covenant units frequently and the covenant do not really have a counter for that. So I gave them extra manpower to make it balanced.

I find it kinda sad that battles aren't like this in the halo games. The battle usually have like 3 marines and ten thousand covanant
The beginning of the Silent Cartographer is kind of similar. I can't remember just how many marines spawn with you at the very start of the mission.
Well i guess in more like halo 3 and more on, but halo 1s and like 2s mission were pretty good on that kinda stuff

Normally in the games you play as a Spartan, whether it was Noble 6 or Blue Leader( except for ODST) Spartans viewed marines as a unnecessary baggage and often had to change tactics and and deployment strategies to! integrate them into the mission but also doing everything in their power to keep them alive. This is the main reason you almost never are backed up by large numbers of marines. In silent cartographer John does not have Linda, Kelly, or Fred to watch his back so hes stuck with ODST.
As expected, the sniper marines are basically carrying the team.

The Hog turret Marines are good too.
I remember the best way to cheese any level on Legendary which gives the player Hog and Marines is to drive them into th middle of an enemy force, park them somewhere that has vantage over most of the battle field and then get off and let them handle everything.
They are so accurate that they can kill Hunters with the turret if allowed to drive past them for even a moment.
I saw more Elites with swords getting killed by marines with rocketlaunchers, so it's ust that those and the sniper rifles are the best weapons for marines, since they have infinite ammo

The marine snipers seem to be the only thing stopping the Covenant from overrunning their base.

In Halo 2 they were pretty good.
All Halo games except for Halo 4 and 5 were good.

I know that people will call me a nit picker and pedantic, but this is something I didn’t know myself until recently and will probably get you yelled at if you say it in the presence of an actual marine.
They’re not soldiers, they’re marines. A soldier is specifically someone in the army. Someone in the marine corps would be called a marine, not a solider.
@@610Blackhawk Soldier is a pretty vague term used for people fighting for there country or any kind of government and the word has been used to describe these people long before any branches like the navy, army, air force, ect so I mean just cause dictionary on google search says army I'm pretty certain that 99% of the people who use the word are just talking about somebody who fights for any kind of military... wow I spent way to long on this lmao sorry if I sound like a douche here
@@conman1111 I get that it’s a fairly generally used term, and I myself usually default to it if I don’t know someone’s actual role or military branch. However, what I’m saying is that with the rivalry between the Marine Corps and the Army (a rivalry which exists in other countries’ militaries as well from what I understand, not just the US), if you call a marine a soldier, *they will get pissed about it,* and so you should avoid making that mistake.
Also it doesn’t hurt to learn something new, so I like teaching people stuff. It makes me feel like I’m making a difference, rather than just being useless.

Amazing how the marine AI for CE is better at shooting than the Spartan IV's in H4
In Halo 1, I saw a marine literally run up to an elite, gun it down, and shoot at the corpse, before running off to go butcher a squad of grunts and jackals with his 2 other fellow marines. Only problem I have is that they can't drive for shit. But give em an assault rifle, and they go rambo. Turn in the Terminator when ya give em a sniper rifle. Take the kills I think I'm gonna get before I even have them in my crosshairs.
In Halo 4, I watched a spartan 4 *drive of a fucking cliff*
And he didn't make a wrong turn, he drove straight for it. Saw another one drive into a wraith, in a warthog, thinking he was doing great, right before he was eviscerated from existence. Yeah.
*Mind you this was released in 2001 too*

From 2001 to 2012, the marines went from evolving to their very best in Halo: Reach to being really devolved in Halo 4 and 5
Kevin DeVere No I disagree. This game clearly had the best Marines. If the marines could combat roll like they can here. It would be different. But in Reach they simply cannot. At 1:25 that Marine fought two Hunters and an Elite while under pressure and was winning for awhile. He even managed to kill one of The Hunters or at least get it killed. That's pretty insane. That Marine is better than a lot of players.

So many small storys told on such a grand canvas... If only there was a Demo feature that allowed me to watch just this battle alone...would probably keep me entertained for a month.

It's called strategy
***** It's strategic because the snipers are usually decent shooters and when they hit their mark, the damage is lethal. They also spam shoot if they miss the first shot so it's often a guaranteed kill in the end. Very effective against the Banshees that patrol that area. The snipers also cover the left flank so no hostiles can flank the Marine strike force.
They were a firing squad.........
Give each of those snipers a KORD machine gun and see what happens 😈

I agree! As a kid I always fantasized about a level or game design like this in H1 but I realized the original xbox probably didn't have the computing power to support so many A.I characters. I accidentally made up a huge battle where multiple marines charged at multiple covenant in a canyon on that one snow level in the H1 campaign (I forgot what its called and but I skipped multiple checkpoints and then went back to the checkpoints I passed only to find a lot of marines and covenant going at it....its been so many years but I remember it as clear as day) anyway the game got so choppy it was unbelievable. I think I showed my dad one time and he laughed at how the frames per second slowed down...the game wasn't playable when so many A.I characters were fighting each other. Maybe there is why the developers of the original H1 made smaller scale battles. I think game developers today should include this type of game design in future Halo games because I am sure the X1 can handle huge battles like this. Cheers Lord Shish on making a very good blood gulch battle! That looked like it was too much fun...I would love to vape some good green and play "The Battle for Blood Gulch"!

I like the way the first halo marines fight vs how they fight now. They actually seemed like a threat back then. I remember watching the marines slaughter grunts and jackals.
Now.. every sense halo reach and above. They struggle just to kill a grunt and a elite is just about impossible for them to kill.

The reason why it's not like that in the newer Halo games is because they wanted to put emphasis on the player. If the marines were to be super good at killing aliens very well, then the game would be boring because you'd be able to just sit and watch the marines take on the Covenant and win for you.

I still have to find a game where the enemy actively tries to surround you or rush you when you have less healt, or retreat when they understand they're in a bad position. On heroic the covenant ai is godly. This is one of the reason i love halo. They use cover even if there isn't a cover system implemented, they hide, they flank, they throw grenades to hunt your camping ass, a jackal overcharges your shield and then a red elite rushes you to finish you, while grunts flank from behind to keep you distracted or keep your shield from regenerating, or retreat and wait for you to come behind the corner and set up a trap, and when you escape the trap they rush you or there already is a blue elite or some grunts behind you to finish you off or punish you. It feels like playing against real aliens, not a computer, and when you manage to win you feel like you actually beaten an enemy force, not some moving pieces of geometry that stand still waiting to be shot. Sometimes i'd love to congratulate the covenant with a gg even if they are bots, it feels like they are people.
Every time i play, even after all this years, i get amazed on how they manage to wound me by surprise

Yeah, I really want anniversary too (for PC). Don't think it's the same engine as the old halo 1 engine though because it wouldn't be able to handle the graphics, animations etc.

oh dang!!! I wish this happened the in Red vs. Blue: Blood Gulch Chronicles. Even though it doesn't make much sense why the Covendent would randomly come to Blood Gulch and destroy everything!!! Maybe Wyoming and Omega made a deal with the covendent to come over and kill the Reds and Blues because Tucker knew about the plot!!! Then the Marines would come help them I guess... But i'm sure Caboose would kill them all ;)

The snipers and warthog gunners appeared to be the most effective marines, while the hunters were the best covenant.
I wonder whether eventually all of the marines would have become snipers. Any of them can pick up a sniper rifle, and those that do live much longer, so they should gradually evolve.

I remembered watching this 7 years ago and came back.
I find myself coming back to this video. Around 2012 the Mac computers at my high school could run HALO Combat evolved and the entire school would be playing these massive matches. Though we didn’t start modding tell 2013 my junior year. I remember playing full games of capture the flag with my classmates.
2013-2014 came around and the classes got spilt up so people weren’t able to play that much, however, we still got the chance to play within our home rooms.
There were some crazy mods and some insanely fun ones. But blood gulch was a staple.
I still miss playing this game with my friends and I do miss playing with the AI too (mods, for practice).
