I love how Evil Otto has a smile on his face, and how he takes his sweet time coming to get the intruder, but this is one of my faves, thanks for uploading.
I played Berzerk back in 1980 when it was brand new. I went to an arcade with a friend near his house, and I remember the room was pretty dark during the day with all the lights off, and it fascinated me how the game looked in the dark. Also, I thought that computerized speech was so cool, and that paved the way for the business I'm running now, a system that reads email and web pages over the phone with a computerized voice.
there was also another version of this game called Frenzy..., i remember it being really hard. you could shoot through walls, the laser blast would bounce back and forth like they had hit mirrors, and the robots were much faster. to sort of compensate for the difficulties, you could move the humanoid independently of his firing direction using two joysticks. the game wasn't out long because i think it got eclipsed by pac-man or something similar.
I've played the Colecovision port on the "Colecovision flashback" and fast forward to today I play "Coleco Frenzy" on the "Legends Flashback DX", which is a Sam's club exclusive.

These games look simple, but the gameplay and replayability are there, and that's what a lot of games with beautiful graphics and impressive sound often lack.
dashcammer Do you not know the two deaths behind this game? A teenager got the highscore for this game and then when he entered his initials he died of a heart attack. Same thing goes for the second teenager who beat the high score and entered his initials died of a heart attack.

Yep.And I must get it straight:this is the second set of Berzerk. That's why the robots shoot with slow lasers and stay in cyan color after the 1,500 points. And Evil Otto is 2 times faster than the Humanoid.Robots stay in cyan color and shoot with 7 fast lasers after the 19,000 points in the first set of Berzerk.
I always wanted to know what the back story to Berzerk was. Why the fuck was this poor dude running through a robot maze? And who the hell was Evil Otto?

I remember the Berzerk arcade machine was at a hotel in Malaga, Spain where I was staying. Some young American guy would play it and any time that bouncy face appeared he would yell out, "its the BUZZsaw!". Being a young British kid at the time I had no idea what he was on about but I found it amusing, and bizarrely its stuck with me over 30 years later. Now I live in the USA and am an American citizen.
Then you would love the version released on the Vectrex home game system many years ago. No speech on the original version although I think that there's a homebrew version of it that does.
I like this game and every people tha says that the creppy is real are liar because one of the "victim" died 5 months earlier and the only one that died because of a hearth attack it was because he was out with snow and have hearth problem so he died when he was playing

Only thing is I've started prioritizing killing every chicken I come across. For some reason I was best at Buck Rogers, planet of zoom. Clocked it with me dad watching. Good times.
Slow bullets, at the 15k mark the bullets should be super fast. My best score was 19,580 on a genuine aracade. Could have cracked 20k if the joystick didn't stick as much
tron3entertainment That’s not what happened. The guy was so determined to win the game that he overworked himself, which resulted in heart problems, and people got extremely freaked out because he collapsed right after reaching his high score.
wth? you had it set on light blue enemies 2 shots at a time on screen. hell, i could get 40k like that! play it for real up to 5 fast shots on the screen at a time and see how you do! i can get to 2 fast shots personally.
This game is really dangerous because during the early 80s Two teenagers died by making a high score I don't remember what they were but they died from the high score believe me or not but it's true.I rather y go check out the sticky paddle and find beserk(evil Otto)
Not exactly. The first guy died from a heart attack caused by a previously undiagnosed heart condition after playing and the second one was killed by being stabbed outside the arcade by another guy after supposedly fighting over a quarter left on the machine to reserve a game of Berzerk. Strangely enough both deaths occurred at the same arcade and with the same Berzerk upright machine.

Dude playing it on easy, when i played at the arcade, the higher you got, the faster the robots shoot, they've been shooting slow the entire time.

this is a simple concept with low resolution graphics and IT IS STILL AWESOME!
The one for Atari 2600 was good, the only flaw was, the robots didn't shoot diagonaly.
