Better still, pull it out, and replace with full bore lever valve!
    Great video - nice one.

interesting that the gate valve "seal" is metal on metal, never would have thought that would work even at the low pressure gate valves are used for

I have a gate valve (below ground for sprinklers) that I believe is not opening fully. Would I be able to just replace the gate and stem without having to cut out and replace the entire valve??? I'd much prefer to just put a new upper part on it but don't know if that is doable. Thanks!

Yes, if you can get the same valve to get the guts out of

Great video. I was already thinking of using Teflon tape as a sealer when I couldn't find a replacement valve big enough for my outside sprinkler supply pipe gate valve that started leaking... Your video sealed the deal, no pun intended.

The last minute of the video showed me how to stop the stem from leaking. Huge help and very easy permanent fix. Thank you!

Very helpful video, watched many useless videos before this one. I have a valve leaking at the base and need to replace that seal you said might be hard to find. Apparently it's impossible to get a plumber for a leaky pipe where I live. They all want the big jobs, no time for an $85 service call.
Only problem is I can't get the red handle off, it's really stuck on there.

Glad I watched this video. The main shutoff valve to my lawn sprinkler system doesn't fully shut off. I was trying to dis-assemble it to "change the washer" but was having a problem because, for one thing, it's in a hole in the ground and not very accessible. After watching this video, I now realize there is no "washer" and I would have been wasting my time, so have decided to just live with it as-is.

2:06 I have a gatevalve in which this stem/ thread is broken and top portion came off Looks like the butterfly valuve is still in side the seat.
The whole vavle is burried below ground on a irrigation line.
Is there a way to remove the butter fly out and replace the enitire top potion?
I am trying to see how can avoid digging around and replace the entire valve.

What can I do if the stem that connects the handle to the gate disconnects from the gate? My main water line gate valve is closed and the stem is not attached to it because I turn and turn the handle but the gate won't open.

This could mean that the spiral shape inside the mechanism is worn out.It might be time to get a new valve

For 1” gate valve: Clamp down the gate valve on the vise, remove the handle then use 27mm deep impact socket with impact wrench to remove the nut.

the gate valve for my hot water tank will only move a couple of mm either way. How much pressure is it safe to use trying to force it with a wrench? Im worried something will snap off and water will go everywhere

A waste of time repairing gate valves. They are notoriously unreliable and leaky. Best of removing it completely and replacing it with a quarter turn full bore valve with a big handle. They are so much better than gate valves

how many cycles to the stainless or brass ball valves undergo before failure? 10,000? 500,000? 1,000?
Can you repair standard ball valves, or does one need to buy a 3 piece ball valve in order to have serviceability and consequently lifetime longevity?

You'll be long dead when the ball valve fails.
