  • Today’s guest is passionate about equipping moms to be prepared for whatever life throws at them. In our conversation, we dove into the subjects of two of Karen’s books: preparing your home with long-term food storage and preparing your vehicle with everything you need on the go. Karen breaks down how anyone can get started building their long-term food storage supply without blowing the budget. She also goes through some items to keep stocked in your vehicle so you are prepared for any situation that may arise on the go. There are some brilliant things on her list that you may not have thought of! If you want to feel more prepared to take care of your family whether at home or on the run, lend an ear to Karen’s sage advice!
    In this episode, we cover:
    - How couponing got Karen started on her preparedness endeavor
    - The preparedness grocery shopping strategy that will save you time and money
    - Practical resources to help you map out your food preparedness plan
    - Thinking through which staples to stock up on for long-term food storage
    - What you might not think about when preparing your vehicle for everyday emergencies
    - Organizing your on-the-go items in your vehicle
    - Snack options to keep in your car ranging from pre-packaged to from-scratch
    - How to stock your diaper bag to be prepared for anything
    - Making sure you are rotating through your stocked pantry before items expire
    - Planning your shopping trips so that you are always replenishing your stockpile
    - Where to start with long-term food storage if you don’t have anything stored yet

Thank you Lisa, each night when hubby and I pray together, we pray about what we need to prepare besides our usual because we don’t know what’s ahead………but God does. We pray that we’d be ready to share the Gospel no matter what. You’re podcasts are always interesting and informative thanks again.

Amen! First and foremost we’re Christ’s ambassadors. Any time we could appear before Him to give account of what we’ve done with the gift He’s given us. This is the most important thing we can prepare for!

Absolutely love this! We are living in different times where we have to be prepared, as much as possible! If that makes me paranoid, I'm fine with that!

I have not finished watching, but wanted to put this in while I'm thinking of it.... we were given an unopened container of Nutiva Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil from a friends house whom had passed away, that expired in June of 2016. We opened it, and it seemed just fine, and have been using it the past couple months with no side effects at all. So coconut oil can be stored longer than 15 months!!😉

Interesting episode! I feel its not really helping the paranoid / overthinking part of me (especially that the pace is so fast!), but I can see how it could help people who are more careless : D

I use those zipper pencil pouches in my center console. We have one that has personal care (hair ties, brush, nail polish remover wipes, nail file, etc.) We have another with feminine hygiene products and wipes (no more kids in diapers). One with medicines and hand sanitizer. And then i iust keep a pen and notepad. It wouldnt hold us over long term but it is just enough to get us through an emergency until i could get to a pharmacy or Walmart.

If we can’t get to the grocery store I am imagining we won’t have electricity or gas either. I’m wondering what she has planned for that. Bulk staples are great if you are able to cook.

There have been many times in different seasons of life that I wasn’t able to get to the grocery store. And it took my food stores to get through. It doesn’t have to be an end of the world thing to not be able to get to the store.

Sweet lady, but sorry I just can’t think that way . In all of my 60 years I never ran into any scenario that I would have needed all that stuff in my vehicle. There was one lesson I learned with diaper cream , I didn’t have any in my diaper bag an my poor little baby girl cried for hours 😭No one could help me . I never went without diaper cream ever again .

I agree. We must trust God. It must be hard to be permanently paranoid.

I would much rather keep a bag full of extras in the car (which I have used many many times) than go without. Even as a mom of 4, I mainly carry a small purse with 1 diaper and a travel pack of wipes. Everything else is in my back up bag. Extra clothes for everyone, first aid kit, sunscreen, slippers (because there are times I didn’t make the kids grab shoes but then we randomly decide to go in somewhere), flash lights, a vomit kit, snacks (which even I’ve used), diapers, wipes, etc. It’s not paranoid to think ahead, it’s a one time thing you pack and throw in the car. You’re grateful past you packed those things when needed.

@@MyBeautifulChaos620i agree. The closest town in any direction is over 30 minutes in our area and most things close early. If you break down its hours if someone happens to come by. No cell reception either. Its not so much paranoid, but just comforts.

My background is as an ER nurse and medic... it's not paranoid to have some things in case of bad weather or breaking down. I always keep some snacks like peanut butter, first aid kit, my boots, and kitty litter in my car when I've had to commute during bad weather. Being prepared is forethinking and doesn't take much effort...not paranoia.

I learned from my grandmother that cornstarch was better than diaper rash cream and best part is ots always in my pantry.

It is dangerous to add oxygen absorbers to certain foods due to their oil content and the potential for botulism in certain situations. Please y'all, just be sure it's a safe food to store it with. Pretty sure I saw that it isn't good to put them in with flour.

One thing you ladies forgot…self defense! When I am out of the house without my husband my .380 goes everywhere with me. Stay-strapped mamas!
