That was very enjoyable to watch
Mauritians are very proud and sentimental about those cobblestones and dilapidated stoneworks you complained about. True they looked like a real menace (that was a pram now imagine being a handicapped moving about Port louis) but these have been built by Mahé de Labourdonnais and French military engineers (Decaen) back in the 1700s
I lived 2 years in sweet rolling Yorkshire and 10 years in France and appreciate both countries. However, don't take it bad but it's just straight facts: the French during their rulership took really good care of Mauritius: building what is now it's contemporary media, industry, infrastructure, napoleonian laws, and most importantly language/culture (Creole). The French also mixed with the African population a lot despite slavery and this is even more obvious in Reunion island. The British colonized Mauritius just to administer it (literally) and exploit its harbour and natural/human resources for free. Britons kept to themselves and barely mixed with other ethnicity. That's why as a native Mauritian having inherited from both French and British History, I have and still nurture more respect for the French mentality. True! French have their quirks being at times rude but they have a fundamentally humane philosophy of mind that US / Aussie rednecks can't stand, nor appreciate
BTW the tram goes to the best and most livable cities in Mauritius that reflect the quintessence of Mauritianism: Rose Hill 💓and Curepipe 💙

Welcome to Port Louis ! That big crack in the pavement by the waterfront has been there from the 60's. I recall walking by that area on my way to Cassis. The paving stones are from the same era, probably from the colonial French days in the history of Mtius.

I had a very bad experience with that sales man who sold the local Boulettes. My old dad who is vegetarian was asking of the prices. As he was old, he was taking a little time yo query and took time to take a decision. The sales Man was rude, had no patience. So wr just gave him back yhe Boulettes and walked away. I still a young adolescents at that time but that incident got stucked in my mind

The reason why the pavements aren't maintained or replaced is because of Apravasi ghat a Unesco world heritage site. Unesco forbad the Mauritian government from making any development in a quite large radius which includes downtown P louis, the northern bus station, Chinatown,..etc. By the way the market continues on the other side of the road with a meat and fish area. But overall very nice video 😄

90%+ of all the Mauritius tourists dodos, magnets etc are made in China. They look like crap Talk about the bird talking about the price of Cashmere and she’s been to U.K. and says she knows the price there and her reasoning is charge the tourists same price as in U.K. So why buy it in Mauritius where you pay same price in U.K. and get a refund if you don’t like it which DOESNT happen in Mauritius My advice to tourists is don’t buy in Mauritius .Most things don’t display prices despite its the law in Maurius

Nah, rose belle market is. But it's not really for tourists, or part time tourists. Fruits, veggies, Garments, utensils, are way cheaper, even cheaper than Flacq. We'll, I guess its not on the cost side, so not much tourists, so no price hike. But, you'll get everything, even wedding dresses. This comment is just for information.

The light green dumpling that Eleise liked is called niouk yen commonly known as boulette chouchou, it's made with chayote (chouchou, the green pear shaped vegetable she was intrigued by in your Centre de Flacq market video)
The other dumpling is called sao mai or siu mai. It's also made with chayote and wrapped in a flour wrapper.

It is definitely not the most expensive market in the world? Mauritius markets barter - did you know this? If you are actually going to buy something, barter. I am Australian/Mauritian & the cost of most things here is about 1/4 of the price that it would be in Australia. So if you think it is expensive - barter, don't buy anything or go somewhere else instead of making incorrect claims!

The people from that snack were really friendly. I time i was at port louis and it was like cyclone class 2. Very windy, i was at that junction whrn a strong wind blew my spectacles and it went in the drain under the road. Those people heloed me to retrieved it buy in vain. There were some shoos selling flowers and they also helo me and they used a long rod and managed to retrieve that. I was very gratefully to both shops employees. Thank you

THE ONLY THING I DONT LIKE LAST TIME I BOUGHT SOMETHING THERE THEY DONT LIKE YOU TO CHOOSE YOUR FRUITS THATS A NO NO ... BE CAREFUL IF YOU ARE A TOURIST THE PRICES FOR SOUVERNIRS GOES LITTLE BIT UP LOLL CUSTOMER SERVICE CAN ALSO BE IMPROVE I BELIEVE MORE NICER SPEAKING WITH CONCERN PROFESSIONALY (SOME MERCHANTS) WHAT MAURITIAN NEEDS TO UNDERTAND IS THAT WE AS A TOURSIST WILL NOT LIKE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THATS THE SAME PRICE IN OUR OWN COUNTRY , FOR EXAMPLE IF I GO TO ASIAN I WILL PAY MUCH MUCH CHEAPER FOR ANYTHING THAN IN MY HOME TOWN , ITS TOUGH ENOUGH TO PAY FOR A FLIGHT FEEE AND GO SHOPPING FOR THE SAME PRICE FOR PRODUCTS NO POINT TRAVELLING, ONE LAST THING MSG USE IN MAURITIUS SOUP IS NICE BUT THERE FOOD ARE NICE, INFRASTRUCTURE FORGET IT ITS NOT LIKE EUROPE ETC

    Hey everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share my thoughts after returning to Mauritius from South Africa, after a long time. First off, I have to say, I love following Part time travelling (Eleise and Lawrence) blog! It's always such a treat to see their updates and get a glimpse of the beauty and culture of our island.
However, I have to admit, my recent experience here has been quite a shock. The new triple tax on everything is just appalling. It's so disheartening to see how these exorbitant prices are pushing tourists away. What's even more frustrating is knowing that products imported from South Africa for cheap are being heavily overpriced in Mauritius. It feels like we're being taken advantage of, and it's really putting a damper on what should be a wonderful experience.
Despite this, I'm grateful for [Blogger's Name] and their blog. It's a great escape from these everyday frustrations and a reminder of the true beauty of Mauritius. Keep up the great work!
    Until next time,
    Munjoy From South Africa

We are fully aware of the political dynamics at play, and we share in the frustration. While we come here with the intention to enjoy and contribute positively, the difficulties imposed by the government often make it hard to provide the support we want to offer.
