I was thinking Lucina more so that Roy. Lucina and Agesis don’t need to hit close up for a sweet spot. They get the job done regardless of where the sword strikes. Mythra is a faster Lucina, and Pyra is a stronger Lucina, also I noticed a decline in Lucina play since DLC Pack 2 completely released,
@@joey5745 Aegis are more about the rush than Lucina but I can’t see that too. Roy and Aegis are all fast fallers too and fire at least with Pyra

Mythra should be doing Sheik damage. A 15 hit combo should do like 40%.

I'm so glad to finally hear a top player, let alone pretty much the best edge guarder in the world say that its not easy to edge guard Pyra/Mythra. because I've seen so many times in comment sections involving this character of people saying that "their recovery sucks so you're just complaining because you are not very good". @@theboy2385 Eh. You're saying "Leo won by an edge guard" but that's freaking MKLeo, USING BYLETH, a great edge guarder. Thinking like that, or thinking fist place is all that matters/that's impressive is too narrow minded. Looking at it from the other side, spargo has been consistently getting second with aegis. If their recovery was THAT bad, he and cosmos shouldnt be getting as far, as consistently. Their recovery isnt even close to being the best in the game, but at the top level like you're talking about, their options really aren't that bad. Top players learn HOW to make the most of weakness/disadvantages, And the potential for getting reverse edge guarded are also pretty high.

A new character came out, and a bunch of "big brain nobodies" on the internet want to throw around that *No BuT tHeY sUcK oFfStAge*... Or in your words, "they're obviously bad offstage." But yet everytime an actual top player tries them for themselves, (Leo, spargo, cosmos, fatality, Esam) they all say they're actually not THAT bad off stage. It must be that.... ITS NOT THAT BAD lol and the results just further prove it.
The byleth example was terrible and not even remotely similar to what I said. Having a TRULY bad recovery makes your character unviable, period. (Little Mac, Ganon, etc) Being slower than other top tiers, however, does not.

Game knowledge, good reactions and little bit of execution are what makes this character, in my opinion. What I mean by that is that you need to have solid fundamentals, because you can't just gimmick people out unless you're really good at foresighting. Knowing the %s and launch angles her moves send each character is also helpful. Having good reactions can lead to so much damage which I think is the only thing holding some people back. She definitely can do the most basic combos, but with no execution or reactions, her damage output may be left lacklustre and thus she needs to win the neutral multiple times (having to play neutral multiple times -> opponent might start to figure you out).
Aegis is definitely top 2 or even the best offline, because you can actually react better when tech chasing or hold the advantage state better. The input lag won't cut your inputs either. IE: when recovering so that you wouldn't get stage spiked often (unless anticipated) and having accessed to a reactionary Foresight.
Online I think she's somewhere top 10-15, because she doesn't have much "wifi strategies", besides Mythra Nair, Pyra's long reach to sequence shield, without having to worry getting parried as often, and side b tech chases.
Pythra/Pika is probably the most oppressive duo in the game. Not only do they have 0 losing matchups together, they beat almost every character in the game. Snake is one of the only characters I can think of that goes even against both of them.
The other two is opposing Pikachu in the ditto and maybe Pac-Man.
Does Snake really go even with pika?

I'm currently playing xenoblade 2 and now I know that pyra is canonically worse than mythra while still being incredibly powerful. If the way they are in smash is on purpose, props to Sakurai and the team for making such a settled yet nice detail in their gameplay in smash
Nintendo did a great job on translating pyra and mythra in this game. In the game Rex calls Pyra heavy when he is trying to pull her up onto the ship on the first island so it makes sense they made pyra slow and heavy in this game. All thier moves act the same in xenoblade chronicles 2 which is very cool. I bet xenoblade chronicles 2 a year ago and tempted to beat it again lol

Starting to see a lot of players pick up Pyra/Mythra now like Protobamham and maybe Esam, honestly I want more top players to pick up Pyra/Mythra so more people can get pissed off at them and everytime there is a video about Pyra/Mythra I can watch the Aegis Haters (also the ones who think Pyra/Mythra are the best) go to war with the Aegis Apologists in the comment sections because its super entertaining
I just don't get all the Aegis hate. After all these games, I think it's refreshing to have a character so high on the tier list that isn't there because of anything broken.
I still personally maintain that Pikachu is the better character because of the smaller hurtbox, vastly better recovery, and drag-down aerials both on and off stage (Nair loops, drag characters down to blast zone and live). Not to mention its possible people may find new ways to deal with Aegis.
That counterplay argument goes same against Pikachu though.
Players like Fatality don't automatically lose to t-jolt, learned how to SDI multi-hit combos properly, and even do recovery mix-ups against the supposed best edgeguarding in the game.
@@mathunit1 true, but its much more difficult to SDI a multihit than to not, much more difficult to mix-up recovery than to not, and T-jolt isn't just and edgegaurding move but a ledge-trapping move and a projectile you can run behind and force opponent to shield or jump

If I didn't watch smash bros RUclipsrs I wouldn't think pyra/mythra was broken based on the people I face online... Actually, I wouldn't think any of the DLC characters are broken had I not see how a competitive player sees it. I think they're like a fox or sheik thing. Super powerful at the hands of good players. But at a mere casual level I don't see them as that good

The biggest problem I see with the character is she is instantly top tier and very easy to play. You don’t have to put in a ton of time to be good with her. So basically you can pick up the character and instantly see results. Versus Steve you have to put in the time and be very precise all of the time to do well
You don’t have to put time into the character but you have to put time into the game. She’s easy but she won’t carry you to new results and you have to be pretty good to use her.
@@botanicalabe I’m not sure if you are joking or didn’t understand my comment. Obviously you will need to be good at the game to compete in the first place and second, of course you will have to practice with her to win at major events but the ratio compared to other characters is non existent. I guarantee you, if I dropped all the characters I play and seriously practiced with the character. In 1 week I would be a better player than I was previously even compared to my other characters. That’s the point I am trying to make. Also I’m not sure what you mean by “you have to be pretty good to use her” pyra/mythra is a pretty basic character.
@@duke_8747 lol if you dropped all your time into Aegis, you would not come out a better player. Every player that has picked her up has been PGR top 20 like Cosmos and Sparg0 and even the high level players like DM were already doing well in their region. Compared to what characters like Min Min, Steve, or even like joker were doing, Aegis is tame.
And yeah, you do have to be good to use aegis at a decent level. They’re basic characters, that’s exactly why you have to be good at the game first

This is dope content and a great new series. People forget you mained Pika and IC’s in brawl and used pika and samus in smash 4. I hope you finding that secondary and improving your Pika is going to help you get to your full potential as a player. One of my favorite players. Keep doing your thing ESAM.
Pythra is ok. I just don't think people have cracked her best strings yet if she has any. Take Fatality for instance. He found a reliable up-air bridge like Pikachu. And like that, Pythra needs that kind of shut-down potential.

If ESAM comes out and just dominates with Aegis that would be definitive proof that he carries Pikachu. Imagine if all along he was carrying the torch for a low-high tier character for no good reason.

honestly, I think that pyra mythra are going to get way worse whn people figure out how to deal with nair. almost all of their stuff is unsafe on block. IDK though, this might be conter balenced by people optimizing and getting better at playing them.

Mythra's down and f tilts are literally safer on shield than Mario's and Sheik's tilts.

I slightly disagree on edgeguarding Pyra/Mytha vs Arsene Joker. In some ways being able to attack is an advantage but a lot of times I see characters with counters that can oppress Pyra/Mythra's ability to recover just because it also counts as an attack. Granted this depends on match up and etc. but if a character has a counter and can get Pyra/Mythra offstage, then it can be easy to read their recovery and push them far enough so that they can't recover enough horizontally. Otherwise I agree with most of your statements in the video.
I mean, top players aren’t getting these edgeguards consistenly, so regardless of your opinion of it on paper, in practice aegises just aren’t getting gimped much. Imo this is like fox recovery, where it looks a lot more consistent to edgegaurd him on paper then it really is. This looks to be the exact same type of thing

Yeah it's kind a bit of both. One thing is that no one in top plays a counter character other than Joker and maybe Palu b/c without facing a risky matchup. We rarely see Joker anymore for whatever reason, and his counter isn't consistent since he needs Arsene. Palu on the other hand I barely see anymore as well.
But watching Nario's streams of dealing with Aegis off stage, we'll he makes it looks easy. Granted it is with Sephiroth so that MU is pretty bad but I think he mentions that when the Aegis is off stage, it's pretty much free to counter to the point he doesn't even do it anymore b/c it's no fun.
Like Mythra's side-B has to recover far and it's long enough to get a counter out because they have to commit. And both of their up-B I think just needs a certain amount of timing for top players to get used to their up-B's.
I can't wait for people to incorperate Foresight OOS against multihits more and more as the meta develops.
As an example, it like actually invalidates most of G&Ws aerials. Stuck on a Platform and get shieldpressured by UpAir? Foresight roll and get off the platform for free or maybe even get a punish. G&W does an approaching NAir on your shield, which can be made like -5 pretty easily? Spotdodge Foresight in-between the multihits and get your combo starter of choice.
Foresight busted as hell.

Pyra is just ike but with roys sweetspot on the entire sword. Then mythra is sheik with a sword.
I secondary this character. I am very good with them but they are not fun if you just destroy some characters and its not close. Thats why my main is doc, I lose to everyone and winning feels rewarding!
You wouldn't feel the same way if you were a pro player playing for a living trying to win tournaments.

As a pythra main, i agree about everything, and mainly about the nair thing, (cuz against portuguese top players is very hard to land the nair and im oblieged to go for another option, which isnt bad, but ye, thats it)
it actually is pronounced EE jiss. thats how they say it in the game.. which is amazing btw. I like how "best character in game" doesn't carry any of her players. Like you still gotta be good to get the most out of her.

Pythra is in like 90% of GF of all Majors of last 6 months, and this with many players (Leo, Spargo, Cosmos, Shuton...).
Honestly Pika is nowhere in comparaison. In potential/dream this mays be up to debate, but at competitive level (tournament) Pythra performs already waaaay more.
l think Esam thinks so yea, he mentioned this vid that they are already pretty much hands-down a top2 character and he also mentioned that they have a Lot more room to grow and be optimized, so combining those ideas with the fact that she's much easier to pick up and play/win compared to some other top tiers (like pika/peach) l'd say it's fair to say that pythra might be uncontested number 1 characters given time

You'd do so well with pythra secondary but cosmos/spargo/Leo and now esam with them would be too much. Cloud would be nice because you'd stay like wadi in no Dlc mains but Byleth I think maybe more you with those drag downs

Pythra is also being used by ProtoBanham apparently, though we haven't seen it yet.
The point is finding a secondary to offset matchups against Pikachu, not replace Pika.
You should do Ridley, I've looked around and haven't seen much about them and I feel like there is some untapped potential there that people like Nair really strive to show off.

idk why disagreeing with a top player is like going against gods own saints and mother, but like yeah sometimes top players overexaggerate and overstep how much their opinion matters just because of their experience. Pyra/Mythra are just easy to use, and I think overtime people are gonna optimize their weaknesses against a decent amount of characters and then she will drop out of top 10 imo. And ppl were talkin about GnW, he's up there but I think eventually the same thing will happen to him too, players are just babies and get really baby rage mad at him cause of up-b and chef at ledge, esam too probobly.

Playing Aegis def reminds me of playing a Melee Character, which is pretty cool. Personally, they are like my third favorite character to play in the game, besides Joker and Fox
The only problem with playing Aegis is people calling you carried. I'm sorry good characters feel good to play.

Nah, I think Aegis is really good for him. I think a lot of people highly overrate the character. There is nothing broken about Aegis. No broken combos or easy KO tools. You have to outplay your opponent to win with Aegis, but if you do, you're going to generally win.
In a top player's hands that invest time into the character, you will see results. It's a perfect secondary because there is no broken mechanics or things like that to memorize. You need to learn Pyra & Mythra, and then you are good to go. It's why nobody who didn't get results before are winning with the character, but people who learned the character who got results prior to that are winning with her.
If you are a good Smash player, you should do well with Aegis because they are generally reliant on your Smash skill. Not specific situational things that only certain people are good at. Just how well you master Smash as a game will generally translate to how well you do with Aegis imo.

Tbh any smash pro will make any character looks very strong or broken since they already know the combos by facing those characters and pros need to have advanced movement and situational awareness which can be transferred to any character because those 2 things aren't character dependent.

@@anzack2551 well anzack when i first started playing super smash bros ultimate I wanted to play as a sword character so I chose marth at first and then I wanted to be a woman player so I chose lucina similar to marth then I used lucina to complete the world of light and said she will be my main. But then one of my brothers friends that I didn't know who played super smash bros ultimate told me that my lucina is weak so then I went with my old character back in the days when I played on brawl with is kirby and the next thing I know I started doing combos with him and he said that I was talking stocks away from him but It never really occurred to me to use kirby like that I liked him because I thought he was cute and played all his games but I used to think he sucked but it's honestly how use the character

Pikachu and Joker both have major tournament wins, the latter having like 10+ major tournament wins. Pyra/Mythra currently has *zero.*
Then there’s the fact that Wolf was the *single most represented character on the OrionRank top 100,* with 11. That means more than 1/10 of the top 100 is literally just Wolf.

Pyra/Mythra have been out for less than a year, 3 top players use them to the effect of being top 10 North America, and the only reason Pyra/Mythra aren't winning majors is because Leo won everything he went to besides Glitch 8.5. Oh, and he plays pyra/mythra too so he wins those tournaments with their assistance. Comparing a character that came out in like April 2020 to a character that came out over a year later isn't fair and you are not making a ridiculous argument LMAOOOOOOOOOO
@@imESAM I’m assuming that the 3 top players you’re referring to are MKLeo, Sparg0, and Cosmos, but in that case that isn’t a very fair argument either.
MKLeo and Cosmos were already #1 and like #15ish respectively. And according to Oricon Cosmos is still only like 11th, so he had a pretty small tick up. Their rankings have nothing to do with Pyra/Mythra.
And with Sparg0, he’s clapped enough pro players with Cloud to prove that he doesn’t need the Pyra/Mythra to be a god.
Pyra/Mythra didn’t carry any players to top 10: players that already had top 10 skill just found that they like playing Pyra/Mythra. It’s the same way Byleth didn’t carry MKLeo to #1: MKLeo just found that he likes playing Byleth.
yeah, because all the top 100 wolf players aren’t already good with other characters either, and that joker’s supermajor wins didn’t just come from one player who won supermajors with 4 different characters
the key is that with the exception of leo who in reality can’t get better results rn, all other pyra players got better after switching to her, including spargo

This gets into theoretical potential vs in practice performance. A lot of characters could be fought more optimally by a lot of different players, but if those better options can't be performed consistently at top levels to the point it actually depresses Pyra and Mythra's results, then it doesn't really matter. Could people eventually refine their Pyra Mythra counter play super well and start bumping them down? Potentially. But it sure hasn't happened yet despite plenty of pros spending all their time taking stabs at it, and it probably won't happen any time soon either.
