The video credit goes to Sports Zone Radio for kindly sharing this recording with me so I can share it here with y'all! This was at the 3A North Regional Championship Basketball Game in Window Rock! It was Page Lady Sand Devils against Window Lady Scouts. Thank you, Malcom Young (Window Rock athletic director), for inviting me to sing for the championship game! it was amazing! Also, the background music was composed by Kenai Van Haverbeke. He kindly worked with me a week before I performed this! We had to change it a couple of times until it was matched with my voice and tempo! Thank you, Kenai Van Haverbeke, for working with me!
The Navajo code talkers saved many lives in the south pacific as well. The Japanese could never break the code. 🇺🇸❤🙏🙏
There was a similar group of Cherokee codetalkers with the United States Army in Europe.
Despite some being caught and tortured, they never gave up the code.
Another part of the Greatest Generation that loved our country!❤❤❤
Navajo language toughest language to learn
And it wasn't really a code it was their language.
What a great honor to have our National Anthem sung in a beautiful Native language!
Exactly! Can't get more American than that! What a beautiful rendition, and a beautiful voice this young lady has!
You could see how the elders in the crowd were proud to hear it in their native language. She just made all the rest of us native Americans proud 👏
That was soooo beautiful! And what a stunning voice!
From this Navy Vet that little darlin' gets a big thumbs up! 👍🏻👍🏿👍👍🏻👍🏾 Ahéhee' . . ❤
I’m a 75 yr. Old Viet Nam veteran brought to tears by this young lady’s rendition of our National Anthem and the respect shown by all in attendance. You all have my deepest heartfelt respect and admiration.
This young lady should be singing The Star-Spangled Banner at the at the Super Bowl!
Yes!
I totally agree!
The Republicans would freak out. They'd claim it's some kind of anti-vvhite diversity power play and that English is the true language of the US. So I think it should happen because their sobbing brings me joy.
I agree!
Yaaaaaasssssss! She absolutely has my vote! Please dear God start a petition or something!
Our National Anthem is beautiful in any language.
This rendition in the Navajo language touched my heart, and the beautiful woman did a beautiful performance.
If you haven't already heard it, look for Amazing Grace, sung (sang?) in the Navajo language. "Beautiful" doesn't begin to describe it.
Given that it ends in a question, at least the first stanza Im which is what is commonly sung, I don’t think it would like to hear it in French.
I had to stand in my kitchen in respect. She'd made the code talkers very proud. She made this old American warrior proud. One nation under God indivisible...
@@patriotman9284 Amen brother! I had tears rolling

It is absolutely world-class grace and forgiveness for our Native Americans to show allegiance to this country.
As a disabled military veteran I felt this version of our national anthem was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! This is the first time I have heard our national anthem sung in a true language of our country. Thank you Ms. Calla Smith.
Thank you for your service sir. AnnMarie from California
@@SbannmarieHow do you know they are a "sir"? There are plenty of disabled military vets that aren't men.
@@Madamoizillion Oh gosh, give it a rest, Debbie Downer. The sentiments are what matter, no matter what gender it was towards! For pete's sake!
Now, that's how you retain your culture and show patriotism to your country!
The "National Anthem" does not retain Native American culture because it's sung in Navajo language. She's singing a song written during the Revolutionary War of white men fighting for their Independence against the King of England's rule and oppression while they were oppressing Indians and black slaves . Study some history (his-story/white man wrote) Study the Native American story written by Native Americans.

*You literally did nothing more than make an ass of yourself in one ignorant paragraph. Congrats.*
@@elainegoad9777 You're the one who needs a history lesson. The anthem was not written during the Revolutionary War. It was written in 1814 during the War of 1812. It was adopted by Congress as the U.S. national anthem in 1931.
@@elainegoad9777
There are 4 stanzas of the national anthem, and each one ends in "Does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?"... It makes no distinction of race, history, or nationality. It speaks only to liberty and the bravery to fight for where you live. Let history die. Today is tomorrow's history and you will have to live with your choices then.
We typically only sing the first stanza, but the others are worth remembrance...
"And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave,
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave...
thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave
Dear God, that was beautiful...all of us who came after them, owe Native Americans a tremendous debt of gratitude...Thank You, thank you, thank you.

Most patriots would disagree with you. Theyd say why is this brown girl singing the anthem firstly, and 2nd why is she singing in a different language, keep it in English , this is disrespectful.

This former Marine cried. Beautiful young lady.
That was deep!!😢
there is no former in front of Marine; you earn the Title; I am an Ancient Marines Mustang; Semper Fi;
I’m a retired Sailor. Don’t ever saw that again Devil Dog. You earned the Eagle Globe and Anchors. Say that again and I’ll come over there and make you buy me a few beers while we make fun of the other branches:)
Wrong choice of words. Owe you a beer. Proud military family back to beginning of this great land. Son Lt Cmd in Pentagon. Sempre Fi. God bless America.
And this Navy Chaplain salutes you. Once a Marine, always a Marine.
That young Lady just earned this old former Marines total respect. That was absolutely beautiful. Our National Anthem is for ALL Americans, regardless of language spoken. Every person in that Gym standing showing respect not just for her, but for our Flag and our nation. That, in considering what normally happens in a lot of places today, was really moving. Makes me believe that there is still hope for our country.
As an American vet .....This is my favorite rendition of the star-spangled banner. The USA is far from a perfect country (no more funding foreign wars!)...however all Americans of every race can come together to create a country where we all feel safe and free. I watched a documentary on native American women going missing and it shocked and saddened me. We must go back to respecting women and our elders. There needs to be harsher punishments, and this will stop. Good fortune to all and never give up your freedom!
I'm not a native American but this brought tears to my eyes.
You too ?
Were you born in the United States?
Than you are a native american.
Time to ditch the labels and be an American.
@@kerrymehaffey5181 Yeah, mine too !

I'm not even an American...
One of the Greatest Renditions of the Star Spangled Banner, because it came from her Heart and Soul!
I was going to say something similar to this, but you said it better. Indeed, this was breathtaking.
This is wonderful.
She is %1000 American.
Folks need to stop hating our country for what it is, and start working towards and loving it for its ideals and what it has the potential to be.
No other country on the globe offers the freedoms and opportunities we do.
There's a line to get in.
There's no line to get out.
As an American...
1. There are lots of people that would like to get out but don't have the means.
2. Many other countries actually have greater freedoms than Americans do. Nordic countries and much of Europe, for instance. Healthcare, family & social support, affordability of housing, publicly-funded paid time off for illness/family/disability/etc., working hours/pay/benefits, transportation... etc. etc. Basically, to have the "American dream", you need to move to Finland. The only people in America who are truly free are the wealthy.
And before someone jumps in and goes "the taxes!!!1!!", please know that the research has been done confirms that an American pays more in taxes (including those funding healthcare programs) and personal healthcare coverage via insurance and out-of-pocket costs than their European counterpart.
Our country is the USA of America . Today is 2024 . We all are citizens of this beautiful country under one FLAG. RED WHITE AND BLUE.
Beautiful. We are uniting.
Rather hear this version than the other at Super Bowl 2025.
Yes. Patriots one and all no matter color or creed. Beautiful!
Singing or standing for it doesn't make you a patriot.
@@RickNelms-ge7guso by that logic, taking a knee during the anthem at a football game doesn’t make you not a patriot. Ok.

You are right.
What makes me sad and angry is that the Republicans are trying to remove the Indigenous people's story from our history books.

First time I heard the real Americans born here in US and they are singing our national anthem.
It does not get any better than that. God bless the American Indians. God bless America.
I was born here in the U.S..
You do know everyone born in the US is "native" to the US, right?
Actually their ancestors were immigrants too.
I was born here "knucklehead".
We who love this country are all Americans
Any of you hater’s here need to remember if it wasn’t for the Navajo code talker we would have lost the war. She’s awesome!!!!!
That’s simply not true. The code talkers were very important, but the overall capability of the US was more than the Japanese could handle. Many historians consider the battle of Midway one of the biggest turning points in Pacific and Midway was before code talkers entered the war. Please don’t embellish so you can advance your own narrative. It ignores the sacrifices and efforts of a great many people.
They were amazing. But it goes both ways--without the US Military there would be no Code Talkers, either. Every race has something to contribute, and diversity benefits us all. Without it there would be no sharing of ideas, new skills, technology, etc. We couldn't advance except at a crawl.
Having been blessed to travel through the beautiful Navajo lands, her people are our National Treasure. Thank you young lady. What an amazing gift you have.
God has surely blessed her with a beautiful voice and she is equally beautiful.
WOW -- no one is knelling .... and the Navajo could & rightfully so ... but they are not -- and everyone of those ladies are standing proud - hand to hand - proud ... AMAZING ! God Bless you ladies and Calla ! I pray 100% success in everything you you ladies do in life !!!

Yes, they are proud. This is, after all, originally their land.
Finally some respect for your country instead of the posts of people giving the finger to mount Rushmore.
This brought tears to my eyes. So beautifully sung by that gorgeous young woman.
I've only known people of the Cherokee Nation, especially their veterans and I've found them to be much more patriotic than the average American. Their dedication to this country is humbling.

What a wonderful reflection of how our National Anthem is OUR National Anthem. Thank you to this beautiful young woman and to the others in the auditorium for having respect for this Nation, thereby, having respect for themselves. She also has a beautiful voice
Our national anthem is beautiful in any language but I really appreciate hearing it sung in her native tongue of Navajo.
This is not disrespectful but beautiful. Don't forget about how her native language also helped keep codes from being read by the Germans in WWII, which kept many soldiers safe.
Exactly
WHY would the idea of "disrespectful" even come up?
Correction: it kept the codes from being understood by the Japanese.
Code Talkers were used against the Japanese not Germans. If you are going to make a statement, you need to be correct in that statement. I have nothing against the rendition of the National Anthem that she sang, it was beautiful in her native language. OSCS(SW) USN RET'D 1978-2002
Actually, the Navajo Code talkers served in the Pacific Theater, not in Europe, but they were instrumental in helping to win WW2.

If a descendant of those who were so mistreated by Americans can sing their national anthem so beautifully, then maybe God, who has been so mistreated by Americans in the last several decades, can have mercy on us, too, and bless us once more!

Much respect to this young lady.
She's very lovely, and so is the language. Bless her heart ❤️
NFL Super Bowl worthy. Legacy of the Codetalkers in their great grandchildren.
And none of these players are taking a knee. Showing pride in both America and the Navajo Nation.
But many of the players were holding hands. That is making a statement during the anthem. Singing the anthem in Navajo is making a statement during the anthem. It is entirely possible to make a statement with your actions during the anthem without showing or meaning any disrespect.
There is more than one way to make a statement and because what one person or group of people choose as their statement may not be how another would choose to make a statement does NOT make it wrong. The variety and differences of our people make up one of the greatest strengths of our nation. Attempting to stifle those differences or to silence those expressions of hope and desire is profoundly and deeply un-American.
